I skim read the L Chat boards sometimes. There is a huuuge thread devoted to Cheryl and Kimberley. They are so matter of fact about C&K having a secret 15 year relationship. The wedding was hush-hush (aside from the Ok mag coverage...) because it was C&K who got married, and Ks husband very kindly agreed to donate sperm so C&K could have a child.
One of the big talking points on the L Chat thread after the Liam news broke was how terrible Cheryl was for letting 'her and Kimberley's son' down by taking up another fauxmance as a career move!

There is an equally demented (perhaps more so) fanbase who believe Liam is in a relationship with Zayn Malik, based entirely on one gossip tidbit from CDAN - who have been disproved over and over. For every bit of gossip he prints that turns out to be true, there are 9 or 10 that don't.

I expect Simon Cowell is behind this. It would fit with his usual hamfisted approach. Great way to elevate Cheryl's profile again - even if the cost is hundreds of 12 year olds calling her 'grandma' on instagram - and well, what's Liam going to be doing while Harry and Zayn battle it out in the charts for the next couple of years? Apparently X Factor auditions kick off next month. Viewing figures have been on the slide. What better way to wrench it back up by the braces than put Cheryl's "love interest" on the panel with her?

I'm not overly invested in this stuff (unlike my 15yr old DD) but fwiw I think the obvious PR game she's playing is misjudged & led by Cowell, who is desperately trying to keep his protégés (and himself) relevant.

In response to the OP, YANBU, Popbitch said as much the other week. X factor ratings are in the toilet and SC's negotiating a new contract with ITV. If ITV are stupid enough to fall for this, they deserve no sympathy.

Nope totally agree with it being a fauxmance. A couple of years ago she was the "nations sweetheart" and the xfacfor cameras go to shot, she were practically the only judge you saw on the show.

Then the nation got over her, last year was dreadful for her, criticised for being too thin and people activily wondering if she was drunk on live TV plus Grimmy and Rita gave her a run for her money in the main on camera moments.

Now her PR etc don't want to focus "on another failed marriage" especially one that can't garner her mass public sympathy so instead it gets brushed under the carpet and she's a "hot young thing" out on the town looking revitalised and happy with her younger boyband boyfriend who also happens to need to find his niche in the world outside of 1D and really only 1 of them can be become a huge solo star. Sorry Liam it's not you, off you pop to TV instead.

Now doesn't that tie up all nicely in a bow ready for xfactor coming back? Simon Cowell must be delirious that two people found love and it helps his ratings, or maybe he's just following the Gwen Stefani, Blake Shelton and The Voice US PR plan

I actually feel a bit sorry for Cheryl Cole - being in the public eye and everything about her life being picked at and criticised must be very, very hard. Take away all the limelight and she's still a person with feelings. To think that her life is being staged just to gain TV ratings is very saddening and for her to be treated like some kind of product/prop that can be used for various reasons must make her feel pretty crap.

I would love it if this romance turned out to be real as I think she deserves some genuine happiness.

Marrying someone of the opposite sex and having children to keep your career on track whilst staying firmly in the closet is pretty common in the entertainment industry isn't it? Along with all the contracts with beards, mostly little known models to act as their gf, that some actors favour.

This stunt definitely has Simon Cowell written all over it. One direction have form for these publicity fauxmances - zayn/Perry/gigi, harry/taylor. Must be such a fucking bore to live like that.

She's on a knife edge career wise.

Her moment as a proper pop star has gone, now she's getting to the point where she's famous for being famous.

She either needs a new outlet, like VB with the fashion, where she can build up credibility, or she needs to bow out gracefully (like the other spice girls).

The alternative is desperately trying to sell her soul to stay in the spotlight like KP or KK.

Bowing out gracefully would be my choice - surely she's got enough money to invest and see her through the rest of her life comfortably. I do remember a foray into fashion with some shoe 'designing'. That seemed to fizzle out tthough.

The previous Frenchman was apparently a contractual arrangement and C&K alternate between whose 'turn' it is to be in a straight relationship/marriage. All allegedly.

Blind Gossip has also written about Zayn (supposedly booted out rather than voluntarily left 1D, apparently due to a drug problem). Perrie was a contract for publicity for both bands - now not needed after Z got the elbow from his band and P's band is riding high in the charts. Gigi is also for publicity but this is apparently being pushed by the Mother, in return for a better profile for her own reality show gig. Harry is allegedly gay and the 'relationships' and ladies man angle is constantly pushed by the publicists, in order to cover this up. TS was supposedly a beard for this - all contractual; he got column inches and she got a song out of it.
