Just a snap poll really:

I'm an innie.

OP posts:
ZedWoman · 11/03/2016 18:43

I'm not seeing an overwhelming case for changing the status quo.

I strongly suspect that there just isn't an overwhelming case.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 11/03/2016 18:47

Bremain. Why thinks of these words

VertigoNun · 11/03/2016 18:49

Brexit came from Grexit. Greek

gastropod · 11/03/2016 18:58

"...not file any accounts for 15 years"

Of course the EU files accounts. What on earth do you think the Court of Auditors is there for? It's explained here: ec.europa.eu/budget/explained/reports_control/annual_rep/ann_rep_en.cfm

If you're referring to the myth that the CoA hasn't signed off the accounts for a number of years, that's not true either. Have a read here: fullfact.org/economy/did-auditors-sign-eu-budget/

OUT

For those of you that see the EU as "a check to Cameron", remember, you can vote Cameron OUT. You cannot vote the E U out in a general election.

You also need to consider that while you think the EU currently provides a check to Cameron that same EU could stop a future Labour Government doing what it wants to.

You asked for reasons for OUT.

Here's my overwhelming reason:

Sovereignty – what makes a country a self-determining country instead of being a province, or colony, or territory governed by another country.

It’s the absolute right to control your own lives in a democratic nation, without interference from an outside superior power

  1. The right to make your own laws
  2. The right to defend yourself
  3. The right to raise your own taxes
  4. The right to control your own borders
  5. The right to trade freely with other nations

We do not have full sovereignty while we remain in the EU and Brussels controls our lives.

On the fence but mostly in

England, Vintage? Really??

In. The whole referendum nonsense is massively damaging, splitting parties and allies, costing wastinghuge sums and there will be no winners at the end of the day. Plus people are likely to vote with their hearts rather than their heads.

I can't believe people are still spouting the shape of vegetables as a reason. The EU laws provide guidelines to different classes of food produce, so that the buyer knows what they are getting.

Followyourart · 11/03/2016 19:09

Sorry but I don't believe we'll have any of those rights under a Tory govt. taxes will still rise no doubt and do you seriously think current immigrants will be told to leave? Don't think it's that simple.
And in my opinion we should be taking migrants from Syria, simply because that's what we should do.

Followyourart · 11/03/2016 19:10

The vegetables thing is being dealt with currently, albeit slowly.
I think there are more important issues though

SpringingIntoAction · 11/03/2016 19:11

The EU laws provide guidelines to different classes of food produce, so that the buyer knows what they are getting.

I wonder how generations of our ancestors survived without that.

Babyroobs · 11/03/2016 19:14

Not entirely decided but leaning towards out.

I saw the title and thought it was proposed baby names.

Vintage45 · 11/03/2016 19:19

Yes really and all that Spring into Action said.

Breath of fresh air.

The vegetable thing was just the memorable straw that broke the camels back. Pathetic and epitomised why it should end.

I believe in stand alone countries. Who may trade with whom they wish.

londonrach · 11/03/2016 19:20

I have no idea at the moment! Can see it from both sides.

dayslikethis · 11/03/2016 19:20

Not decided yet by a long shot. My heart says out, but my head says in. (So much harder than the Indy Ref - head and heart were very much both in agreement for that one!)

Remain isn't really voting for status quo; to me it is more like voting to stay on a runaway train.
I have more confidence in the future of the UK in the wider world than stuck inside the EU.

Followyourart · 11/03/2016 19:31

I don't understand - do other European countries have the same obsession with veg aesthetics? Haven't experienced this where I've been - they are sold as they're grown. It's just the uk's obsession with aesthetics, it permeates through other areas in society(like people)

Gobbolino6 · 11/03/2016 19:33

SpringingIntoAction · 11/03/2016 19:33

Sorry but I don't believe we'll have any of those rights under a Tory govt.
We regain those rights as soon as we leave the EU. They are our rights that we lend to the Government in power for the duration of their term in power.
If Labour comes into power and wants to renationalise the railways or to protect steelworkers jobs, it will have the right to do so. If we stay in the EU it can't. What appears to 'protect' you can also 'harm' you.

Taxes will still rise no doubt and do you seriously think current immigrants will be told to leave?
Why should taxes rise when we will be saving millions of £s each day that we are currently handing to the EU?
Why should current immigrants ‘be told to leave’? Why would we do that? If the country needs their skills why would it seek to ask them to leave?

And in my opinion we should be taking migrants from Syria, simply because that's what we should do

Err, that’s what we ARE actually already doing.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 11/03/2016 19:35

Out, mainly for the reasons listed by SpringingIntoAction.
