Ghost in house

Okay so I've been feeling like there's something in my house lately, get the feeling I'm being watched and mentioned this to a friend who goes ghost hunting, who told me to try and communicate with it. I've got this week off work and home alone, so thought it was the best time to try as don't want to scare anyone.

I called out to it and a few moments later the delivery driver knocks on the door, pure coincidence or is this thing using real events to respond to me? Oh also I woke up this morning and tap was running?? I'm a light sleeper so would know if it was dh or dd in middle of the night. I feel quite uncomfortable sat here Blush am I being paranoid?

OP
Keep us posted
Without wanting to worry you, if I thought I was being watched, I'd suspect a neighbour before a ghost!

do you know the history of your house?

Fwiw I wouldn't necessarily always dismiss strange happenings, and some of the ghostly threads on here make for interesting reading. We lived in a new build house where there was definitely a weird sense of something really not very pleasant in the kitchen/utility/behind the house. I could never put my finger on what it was but there were definitely some unexplained happenings, A ring of mine went missing, we turned the house upside down looking for it but didn't find it, until one morning found it right in the middle of the kitchen floor. Was sitting at the computer one night when I distinctly heard someone walk across the decking behind the house. The gate hadn't gone or anything, never could explain it. And always had a horrible feeling when in the kitchen utility. Also I used to have incredibly vivid dreams of being pinned up against a wall etc by a presence. Used to wake up terrified. When we moved house all of that stopped. Never could explain it.

That being said I went to an evening once where a number of healing types gave talks. One of them was a spiritual healer, and she told of how she hadn't been a healer before but one day a medium visited her out of the blue and said she'd been called by the spirits and they spent the night regressing through her 67 past lives. I was like this. Hmm Hmm and then she proceeded to "call up the spirit" to "cleanse" the room of evil and negative thought. Hmm.

I would never dabble in the likes of ouiji (sp?) boards and the like but equally I wouldn't give that kind of thing too much head space.

Knowing the ouija board was patented in 1920 by the Parker Brothers game Co. takes the mystery and magic out of it doesn't it.

I will do lorelei9 - we moved in start of last year so not been here too long and never told of it being haunted or anything.

wannaBe that was such an interesting read! Mine's a new build too. Quite spooky, but very into that sort of stuff.

I lost my engagement ring a few weeks ago, took it off to clean the oven, put it on the windowsill and then it promptly disapeared!

Last week I came downstairs to find the cat doing that weird paw drag thing they do under the fridge. I pulled it out (the fridge, not the cat) expecting to find a half dead mouse that it was tring to get out and it was, in fact, my engagement ring.

If I'd found it a few minutes later in the middle of the kitchen I'd have been mystified, but it definitely wouldn't have been woo!

Funny how much woo seems to happen to cat owners though! Wink

DO NOT COMMUNICATE WITH IT.

I have experienced this. I am not the type to believe at all in such things. Like most of you I thought such things are rubbish.

I was living abroad in South East Asia. We had a maid. She told me that there was a ghost that was calling to her at night. She wasn't afraid and said it as a matter of fact. She just wanted me to know.

I did not believe her, but I would notice some weird sounds at night - namely the sound of heavy furniture being moved in the upstairs flat at about 3am. The flat upstairs was empty with noone living there.

There were times I would walk into the kitchen and notice all the cupboards open - the maid would say it was 'the friend'. I didn't believe her.

One time the maid was not around and I went into the kitchen to make some tea, I left the kitchen for like 20 seconds and returned to get some biscuits and ALL THE CUPBOARDS WERE OPEN. That is when I got a bit freaked out. I rationalised it away, but a friend then told me to try and communicate with it.

The worse mistake I made was acknowledging its existence and trying to 'communicate'. Things got MUCH MUCH worse after that. It would leave lights on, leave taps running. The most terrifiying thing it did was it would shake the bedroom door or knock on it as if it was trying to get in. DH once thought there was really someone and he opened the door and of course there was nothing.

We got a priest, a pastor in, a psychic in- my maid did some weird thing going around the flat with burning sage. Nothing worked. We left when it started trying to scare the kids (they were babies). We did find out that a maid had previously killed herself in the flat six years before we moved in.

I haven't had any weird experiences since, but I don't dismiss it when people tell me about it.

centigrade451 that's terrifying! I broke out in a sweat just reading that from fear Shock hope my situation doesn't come to that. But I don't just want to leave things how they are, I've heard lots of positives of getting a priest in.

There are no ghosts, but..,

That feeling of panic/being watched in certain places may have some rational basis. Experiments have been done where they've been able to replicate this feeling by using infrasound for example. I'm sure this is one rational reason why some people find certain places creepy. The way a space reflects sounds can probably combine with the general air of a place to create something we interpret as a bad feeling.

Are you ok, op? Any stresses or worries just now that could combine with that to make you feel a bit squiffy and 'watched'?

I see you picked up on my ghost comment on your moon thread last night. Okay...it's an interesting point of discussion, so why not?

The problem with talking to people in rl who insist they have seen a ghost, is that to dispute it, is to insist the tale-teller is one of two things...mistaken or outright lying. This is far too confrontational for our British reserve, so we nod along in the name of good manners wondering how soon we can change the subject without being too obvious about it.
Ghost insisters know you are bound by social constraints that prevent you from calling them out on their nonsense and they bloody well exploit it. Imo.

You don't have a 'situation'.

You have a cat flap which could have opened because of the wind. A picture whose 15 year old sticky tape gave up the ghost (ahem) and an over active imagination.

I mean; do you really think if someone from the other world was floating around (ahem) it would send you a delivery???

In years to come, there will be scientific proof that there are such things as ghosts.
I have seen ghostly activity where I work. It's very subtle and I'm not at all scared .
Other people who use the building have mentioned seeing things like doors opening and closing.
It's a community centre attached to a church; a modern building but built on the grounds where the old church stood.
I think it is the spirit of a child as I often find it is small toys that get moved around; for instance I'll pick up something off the floor and move it to a table. I'll turn my back for a moment and it will be on the sofa.
There is sometimes a very real feeling that I have dropped something or something has fallen, but I never find it.
Only recently I entered the building ( I'm a key holder and there was no one there) I heard loud music, like a child's nursery rhyme coming from upstairs.
I thought someone had left their mobile phone in the building, but it was not the case.

In years to come, there will be scientific proof that there are such things as ghosts.

We have an international space station containing astronauts that we're able to speak to from earth, we've put a man on the moon, discovered gravity, invented the Internet, sent pictures back from Mars. What are we doing, biding our time?

Report
centigrade451 · 11/03/2016 15:59

DH is convinced all ghosts are demons just playing with people and pretending to be spirits of the dead. He also says that of any 'spirits' that psychics use.

Frankly, I don't want to think about the existence of demons, I might not be able to sleep at night otherwise!

I think we are biding our time yes.
It really is of no benefit to mankind to prove the existence of " ghosts" or whatever.
Who is going to fund such a venture?

LittleLionMansMummy all the things you state there are great feats, however they are all possible on a physical plane of existence - ghosts/spirits (if they exist) do not exist on this same physical level so it is understandably much harder to prove

Report
LittleLionMansMummy · 11/03/2016 16:03

If they're opening cupboards (and cat flaps) then their actions are very much on the physical plane. We have better technology than ever before, cameras on every street corner, more advanced audio than ever and we're unable to capture on of these events using modern day technology?
