I'm so scared...might be pregnant.

I don't even know why I'm posting this. I'm 43...43! DH and I have two DDs and we weren't planning on more. I don't even know if I AM but listen to what's been going on.

My last period finished on valentines day. We've been having sex using the withdrawl method for the past 8 years without incident...8 years! We're experts at it because I react badly to the contraceptive pill and have a latex allergy. I know there are latex free condoms but we were always very careful indeed.

Well...over the past...maybe 8 days or so I've been feeling the urge to wee a lot. Never even crossed my mind that it might be a pregnancy symptom...I thought maybe it's a UTI or my age!

Then yesterday out shopping I felt very nauseous all of a sudden...not like me at all...then in the evening yesterday I had terrible indegestion...I was actually burping which just isn't me...except when I'm pregnant.

I STILL didn't think anything. Tonight though I was marching off for my millionth wee and DH said "Are you going to the loo again?" and I said yes...I keep going...and then my head went OMG!

I need to get a test. I'm absolutely terrified.

I'm 43.

I have two kids! DH said not to worry until I know for sure...the other thing worth mentioning is this.

I was a smoker...gave up when pregnant...but 8 years ago, after I had DD2 I went through a very stressful time at work and started again.

I finally gave up 2 months ago. It could have affected my fertility couldn't it? And now...bang.

I've got too many symptoms to ignore. I can't remember the sex...DH and I have quite regular sex so I can't even pinpoint the time after Valentines day when we did it. Am I being silly? Panicking over nothing? Help me with the dates because I'm bad at maths and it's night here and I can't get a test.

It'll obviously be a shock to you if you are pregnant, but trust me once they put him/her in your arms, you'll be absolutely thrilled to bits.

Hacker yes I did and quite strong symptoms too. These are so similar that's why I"m amazed it's taken me this long to even consider it!

There's only one way to find out, buy a test in the morning!

The symptoms could be a coincidence, but could also not be.

Charley it's awful isn't it! I know it's been irresponsible...all this time!

So I do have periods which last about 4-5 days and a 28 day cycle give or take a day or two...usually give a day....so does that mean I'm late or not? I can't think straight.

You are borderline late. If your LMP started around the 9th Feb you are a day or two late. However, if it was the 10th or 11th then you are aren't really late yet unless your cycle is absolutely clockwork.

The only answer is POAS.

TaraCarter · 10/03/2016 13:55

What ilive said, OP. If it finished on the 14th Feb and started 4-5 days earlier, you're due... now. Or thereabouts.

Dawn I'm in Australia. I've said twice now that it's night here. I can't. I need some reassurance. If you don't like it then don't post.

Chaz and Tara thank you for that. At least I'll know tomorrow or in a few days after a second test, I couldn;t speak to DH about it all because though he didn't say anything, I felt that he would quite like another baby...and that he was keeping it in, but was sort of pleased.

He didn't want to react until I can gauge my own feelings...thank you all for talking to me.

My mum had my brother at 41. 43 is nothing - there are plenty of women having children at your age. It has kept my parents young when I compare them to my PIL. If you want the baby (if there is a baby!) then don't worry about being too old.

Good luck with the test op, I'm sorry you are so scared. It will be ok, whatever the outcome. You have options, and you will cope whatever you choose to do. Flowers

I had a similar scare this month - all the symptoms from very early pregnancy that I had last time. My period started yesterday.. a week late. I whooped in the staff toilets.

Good luck Flowers

It's probably you stressing that's delaying your period. Just get a test in the morning - that's the only thing that can give you reassurance.

Capricorn I only had the thought literally about an hour ago! I haven't been stressed at all....thank you al for your nice words. I think I'll go to bed now. It's past midnight!

Good luck OP. Hope you can sleep ok. Do you normally get period warning signs?

Of course you could be. You could also be starting the menopause. Good luck testing in the morning Thanks

Pigeon...is frequent urination a sign of menopause?

you cannot be careful, withdrawal isn't contraception for simple biological reasons. Unless your husband is from krypton, that is...

take a test when appropriate. Good luck in whatever happens and whatever you decide.

and please get real contraception/sterilisation sorted!! Withdrawal just ruins the fun for no benefit. You've just been lucky.

Good luck for when you do test

If you do the test, and you aren't pregnant (but judging by what you have said I would say you may be and perhaps the panic/emotional reaction might be down to the hormones??) then go to the doctor and make sure you haven't got something else going on. Could well just be that lady time is on her way but to be fair, 8 years was a very good run on the pulling out method lol

I was also going to suggest start of the perimenopause as a reason for your symptoms.

And mention that the withdrawal method resulted in a lovely DD for us!

Also, that I had a surprise DC at 41 and am sooooo glad for it!

Do that test as soon you can!

WhoaCadburys · 10/03/2016 14:16

Oh, OP! this happened to a friend of mine and was the best thing that every happened to her - three lovely girls now

Even if you are, I'm afraid there is a massive chance of miscarriage. I forget the stats now, but it really is quite high.

Yes, I felt a bit nauseous sometimes and am in the peri-meni phase, as I expect you are too.

I hope you find a test soon!

Good luck with test. From a fellow withdrawal child. So's my brother, btw.

OP, you'll feel better once you've done a test. DP & I were also using the withdrawal method for 8 years and then I fell pregnant in 2012, just before my 44th birthday! It was a massive shock for all 3 of us (DS was 8 at the time). Now I'm sitting here listening to my beautiful 3 year old DD playing in the next room. Good luck whatever the result! x
