Am I being unreasonable not to wear a bra?

Reasons being that:

  1. I find them uncomfortable
  2. They make my boobs look weird
  3. I don't think I need one.

Why do we see them as such a vital piece of clothing?

I guess it depends if your nipples stick out a mile if you don't. I don't need one support wise, merely for a matter of decency it is that I wear Tshirt bras with the padded cup...

Nomorebras · 06/03/2016 21:42

Yes, I was the same Communist. I saw another thread tonight which made me realise this. At first going bra-less felt odd but now it's just very normal and I don't even consider wearing one.

It's entirely personal choice.

My breasts are not pert nor small, and I don't feel comfortable walking around doing stuff when I have them flolloping about in and out my armpits.

I never go without something these days. I like a sleep bra/crop top under me jim-jams.

shutupandshop · 06/03/2016 21:44

I wear bras as little as possible. I'm a 38f.

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 06/03/2016 21:45

I don't understand why anyone wouldn't wear a bra. It'd be so uncomfortable to just have them whapping about.

Oh god and the thought of running without a sports bra Shock

dementedpixie · 06/03/2016 21:47

I wear a heavy duty under wired sports bra as well. Couldn't bear not to with my big floppy boobs

Bunbaker · 06/03/2016 21:47

"I think it's strange that the second a girl gets buds it seems to be normal to put them in a bra or a crop top that closely resembles one."

Peer pressure. When DD was in year 8 she was the last in her class to get a bra. She badgered me to get some for her because everyone was commenting on it, and being extremely self conscious DD didn't want to be the odd one out.

MrsMook · 06/03/2016 21:49

I'm small chested and sometimes go without. It is nice to "breathe" occasionally.

In general I favour some padding to enhance what I have, shape and give my nipples some privacy. I take my sports bras seriously as small as I am, high impact activity still places a lot of stress on the breast tissue.

In my preganacies/ breastfeeding days, I've gone up and then back down by 5 cups. I've been quite lucky in remaining fairly perky despite these changes and it may have helped that I wore stretch/ wireless bras continually to best minimise stress on the skin and tissue. When I've been a D cup and above, I've rarely found it comfortable to be bra-less.

Xmasbaby11 · 06/03/2016 21:49

I'm a 38C so not massive, but I would not look good without a bra!

Are you sure you look better without? Aren't your nipples noticeable? I'm intrigued!

I can understand it's comfortable to go without - I love taking it off and putting my pyjamas on - but they look all floppy and swingy. Clothes don't look right.

lorelei9 · 06/03/2016 21:50

Yanbu
I'm a D cup after gaining weight, which I'm now losing so really hope to be B again.

I couldn't work out sans bra but never wear one st home and these days if I'm popping to the shops with an overcoat on, I don't bother.

God I miss having a smaller chest! And bras are so fecking expensive.

freshprincess · 06/03/2016 21:50

I haven't had one on all day and I hate it. My back is killing now
Im 30gg. Bra less is not an option.

iwuddarryl · 06/03/2016 21:53

Call me cynical but, is this thread for real? Hmm

Bunbaker · 06/03/2016 21:54

Why wouldn't it be?

gunting · 06/03/2016 21:54

I'm not sure I'd trust a study saying bras have more cons than pros because SO many women wear the wrong size.

I worked as a lingerie stylist for a few years and 99% of women wore either the wrong size or wrong style.

Obviously you're not being unreasonable, if you don't want to wear one then it's not offending me, but once the coopers ligaments stretch they don't go back and wearing the correct bra will prevent that.

PurpleDaisies · 06/03/2016 21:54

Why shouldn't it be darryl? You know where the report button is if you have suspicions.

SalemSaberhagen · 06/03/2016 21:55

Braless isn't an option if you breastfeed.

Or if you have empty 32K sacks that hang down to your waist without support . And I'm a size 12, without a bra I would look about 2 stone heavier.

gunting · 06/03/2016 21:55

Iwud that was my initial thought.... Why use the name nomorebras and then just post about bras Confused

PurpleDaisies · 06/03/2016 21:57

have you never seen a name change before gunting? You must be new...

What's wrong with reporting posts you think are dodgy instead of troll hunting?

iwuddarryl · 06/03/2016 21:59

We've had it before - where people pervs have started threads with the sole purpose of getting a group of women to start talking about their bodies.

I could be wrong, but it happens.

whathaveiforgottentoday · 06/03/2016 22:03

Lucky you not needing a bra. I whip my bra off as soon as I can in the evening, but I couldn't go out or do any kind of exercise without wearing a bra. Go for it if you don't need one. I'd love to go braless but it would be rather unpleasant for everybody else if I didn't strap my J cup boobs in.

gunting · 06/03/2016 22:11

Thanks for the education purple Hmm

My point being more that it's not exactly a subject you'd need to name change for. It won't out anyone

imwithspud · 06/03/2016 22:13

YANBU, it's your body, your boobs therefore your choice.

There are however lots of reason why women wear bras though. I rarely wear one when I'm at home, if I do it's usually the stretchy sports bra type. I always put one on if going out, just makes me feel dressed and supported.

PacificDogwod · 06/03/2016 22:15

Wear whatever you want, nought to do with me.

Just like I will do whatever the hell I want with my norkage Grin

Skiptonlass · 06/03/2016 22:16

I can see both sides here - when I was a size six I'd often go bra less. Now I'm breastfeeding and a DD, it's really Uncomfy without one. I was getting nasty deep tissue pain that was solved with a good nursing bra.

Don't wear one if you don't want to, but lots of us can't be without one.

And for excercise? God yes. Have you never seen male marathon runners with two bloody dots on their shirts where it's rubbed their nipples raw!!?

MattDillonsPants · 06/03/2016 22:19

YANBU I don't. It's amazing how some people see this as an affront. I am 43 but because they're small they haven't sagged. Bras hurt me and I've tried all sorts and sizes, they make my boobs look...odd. I prefer the natural look. I always wear a vest underneath clothes so my nips aren't poking out. I agree with Communist that if people are shocked by a clothed boob hanging free, that's their issue.
