AIBU to ask if you've got fat thighs?

Just had to ditch another pair of trousers as they had holes on the inside seams where my fat thighs rub together!! Is there anything I can do to avoid this (always happens even with jeans). Can fat thighs ever really change and how? I swim and walk a lot but that doesn't seem to make a difference.

@iMogster I also have the "double hips" thing going on, no amount of weight loss or exercise seems to narrow them down

Oh how I can relate to this thread. Ever since I hit puberty I've had thunder thighs, I've had to chuck away so many nice pairs of jeans that were perfectly fine apart from the holes at the top Sad Even though I've lost a bit of weight and am now something like 9st 5lbs, the tops of my thighs remain stubbornly fat and wobbly...how I wish any weight I lost would be from my thighs and not my (already small) boobs Grin

hollieberrie · 07/03/2016 15:37

Yanbu. Im a 10 and my thighs are still chubular :) Even when i was really skinny (size 6-8) i still had big thighs - they looked even worse then tbh as they didnt go with the rest of me.

I've sort of learned to love them nowadays, although i still get a little pang of jealously when i see long limbed people with thigh gaps!

Shodan · 07/03/2016 15:37

To look on the bright side though- we can have confidence that if a fight were to ensue, we could crush our opponents with our sturdy thighs...

Grin Wink

I have skinny thighs but a tum. To the extent that strangers have assumed I'm pregnant! I can't even wear short skirts to show off my fabulous legs as I look ridiculous in them due to my tum. I look like a potato on legs! I think pear shaped women look better in clothes as thighs are much easier to disguise than a tummy.

oldlaundbooth · 07/03/2016 15:44

Depending on how I dress I can look a size 10 or a size 16. My lower legs are pretty skinny and muscular, my forearms are slim and you can see my collarbone if I wear a wide neck top. If I show all these I look thinner.

If I bear my upper arms and ample, Hobbit-style thighs I look loads bigger.

ImCatbug · 07/03/2016 15:50

I'm a size 6 and have a BMI of 19, but I still get thigh rub and wear through jeans like nobody's business! It's such a huge pain, my jeans always lasted longer when I was younger and a size 10/12, no idea why they wear out so much now!

puzzledbyadream · 07/03/2016 15:52

I'm 5'4 and 10st 8, I carry most my weight in my thighs and bum, and now some on my stomach which can frankly sod off. In summer it's cycling shorts under everything, which is just fine.

I hate it because up until I was 19 I was so slim and everyone else in my immediate family is really slim and I just feel huge compared to them. It's also no fun being a 10 on top and a 14 on the bottom!

BolshierAryaStark · 07/03/2016 15:59

Yep, always have had big thighs. I run, mountain bike & spin so admittedly they do look good now but still get the rub-pisses me off no end.

magratvonlipwig · 07/03/2016 16:20

Buy a size that's not straining in the thigh..then have the waist taken in. Or do it yourself if you have a sewing machine its pretty easy. All my jeans have nipped in waists to accomodate the thunder thigh problem!

MargotLovedTom · 07/03/2016 16:52

I'm very envious of all you tiny waisted thunder thighs - I have the jeans busting Hulkesque thighs, along with a broad back, hefty upper arms, wide waist, CS overhang and big square bum. Oh I'm a catch!

IncandescentRain · 07/03/2016 16:57

Happens to me too and I have a BMI of 19.1

britnay · 07/03/2016 17:02

Another shortass pear here :D
I absolutely love my Levi jeans. You can get them to suit big ass/skinny waist and they don't show off your bum every time you sit down!! I wear skinny ones, and they are actually very slimming. I scoffed at the price before I tried them on, but they are worth it! :D

uglyflowers · 07/03/2016 17:57

Another chunky thighed lady here. Always had massive thighs - I remember a friend's mum mocking me for them when I was about ten. Anyway I recommend per una jeans for the smaller waist problem.

NeedsAGreenCardForFantasyLand · 07/03/2016 22:07

I second the Levi's vote. There is a cut available in the US (529 curvy) that perfectly suits my big butt/thighs and smaller waist. I always get that huge gap at the back, but not with those. They used to be available in Europe, but now they've changed to some demi curve nonsense. Even the "big bootay" version of that cut isn't good for me.

Trills · 07/03/2016 22:21

If anyone wants to buy some Levis "Bold curve" black jeans in an (allegedly) 30 inch waist let me know.

I bought them new off ebay from America. If you know that's the size that fits you, send me a PM.

BananaThePoet · 07/03/2016 22:40

I'm very fat and very short - well under five feet tall. I always wear a tunic style top which covers my bottom and upper thighs when I wear trousers and leggings. That means it isn't a major problem when things wear through as I can keep sewing them up when they get threadbare enough to warrant it and before they get to that point I wear shorts style underwear the same colour as the trousers so in the unlikely event anyone might catch a glimpse of my under-carriage area the worn through patches won't show up.

in other words I use trousers/leggings more like tights and it works for me. The shorts style pants work wonders during the summer months under dresses too. I haven't suffered from thigh rub chafing for decades.

bonzo77 · 07/03/2016 23:01

I can relate to so much of this thread. I'm 2stone lighter than my heaviest (non pregnant) weight. Which at 5ft2 is a significant loss. But my thighs rub just as badly.

Those who wear cycling type shorts under summer dresses...1. Do you not find they ride up, get caught up at the top of your thighs then rub even more? And 2. Doesn't the dress cling to them and make them pretty obvious?

StrawberryMouse · 07/03/2016 23:05

Another not big (size 8, around 9st) but with rubbing thighs. I've been running lately which seems to be changing my shape in that area a little? Feel a bit smaller of thigh although don't look it quite yet. And the three creme eggs I have snarfed in a row today might hinder progress somewhat..

MyFavouriteClintonisGeorge · 08/03/2016 12:28

Maybe it happens to us all because 'large' thighs are, in fact, normal for women (except those portrayed in magazines)?

I vote we rename this thread 'Anyone else got normal thighs?'

leedy · 08/03/2016 12:44

"Those who wear cycling type shorts under summer dresses...1. Do you not find they ride up, get caught up at the top of your thighs then rub even more? And 2. Doesn't the dress cling to them and make them pretty obvious?"

Doesn't happen with the Sloggi cycling-short-shaped knickers I linked to upthread - they pretty much stay put and don't show through dresses. They're just thin cotton material with a stretchy lace band mid-thigh (ie below the potentially chafy bit), so there's no obvious "line" IYKWIM. I think actual shorts mightn't work as well.

murphys · 08/03/2016 12:58

I am also not big anywhere else (bmi 18) 48kg and the only place I have any fat stored is my inner thighs. I am SO conscience about it, as it is so obvious on me, its so out of proportion to the rest of me.

So since last year I have tried to make a concerted effort to try to firm up (I am 46 now so have to bear in mind if I don't do something about it, it will get worse). So I go to pilates and if I can fit in a few extra days at the gym I will do that too. And guess what! The rest of me is looking great, arms etc, but the fatty part of my inner thigh is just the same, but now if I pull that muscle there, it tightens and doesn't wobble, but it looks just the same. I think something went wrong with the legs drawing plans when I was being made. The muscles are all just in the wrong places...
My calf muscles are misshaped too - flat at the back, no shape. Looks great from the side, except I don't walk around everywhere sideways.

Sigh.

Whatkatyforgottodo · 12/03/2016 20:57

I can't believe no one else has found this cure for the thighs going first on jeans... My jeans always used to fray between my legs and then I had my PFB... A few months of crawling around on my hands and knees after her and all my trousers, jeans, leggings, whatever, went on the knees first! Problem solved!!! #smugface
