Just had to ditch another pair of trousers as they had holes on the inside seams where my fat thighs rub together!! Is there anything I can do to avoid this (always happens even with jeans). Can fat thighs ever really change and how? I swim and walk a lot but that doesn't seem to make a difference.

I am thunderous of thigh! I've resorted to black jeans that can be nearly stitched up when they give at the seams - the stitching is less obvious on black ones and looks like a crease rather than a repair plus I'm lazy, cba to shop and can never find jeans that don't emphasise the hugeness of my thighs

WellTidy · 07/03/2016 14:01

I have massive thighs, bum and calves. Completely out of proportion to my top half, which is a size 10 30D. My BMI is about 23.

I can't think when I last bought a dress, as I wear separates all the time. I wear skirts way, way more than trousers/jeans. In fact, I can't think of a single pair of trousers that I have which fit me. I buy very high waisted jeans/jeggings with stretch, but they don't really fit me properly. I will definitely be trying the Oasis jade ones.

Have heard of these cute little lace thigh bands to solve summer chub rub, not tried them though: www.mish-online.co.uk/bandelettes-16121.html

GoooRooo · 07/03/2016 14:17

Lanacane Chaffing Gel is your friend when wearing skirts. You're welcome.

(Also makes a bloody fabulous make up primer for a fraction of the cost of Smashbox Photo Finish!)

StayGold · 07/03/2016 14:23

Can I join? tis the bane of my life, I just get jeans comfy and fit like they should, then the bloody holes appear, have patched them but they look awful Sad Am waiting with bated breath for someone to announce the miracle pair of jeans Grin

BTW Udderly Smooth Anti chaffing cream is supposed to be fab and not too expensive?? x

moonbells · 07/03/2016 14:28

Marking place...

debbietheduck · 07/03/2016 14:28

I too am large of thigh, though I don't get the chafing; I should obviously be grateful for my wide hips.

Have a Google for Canova's Three Graces statue for another lovely image of pear shaped neoclassical beauty. We should embrace our shape!

notamummy10 · 07/03/2016 14:38

I have fat thighs.

In the past month I've gone through 3 pairs of jeans. 2 from Dorothy Perkins and 1 from Simply Be Sad

It's so bloody expensive- ended up going to M&S for their jeggings!!

MyFavouriteClintonisGeorge · 07/03/2016 14:40

I had a friend at uni with a very athletic, not much waist and muscular thighs sort of figure. She swore by Yves Saint Laurent mens' jeans. Never bothered with womens' jeans. Worth a try?

leedy · 07/03/2016 14:42

These, btw, are the utterly repulsive yet thigh-saving Sloggi pants:
www.justsloggi.co.uk/basic-longs

I have skipped through the height of sweaty humid Summer in NYC in a lovely frock and these things without a hint of chafing.

I repeat, though, REPULSIVE.

Bellasima20 · 07/03/2016 14:42

Another member of the club here. Spend a lot of time in the gym focusing everything on legs/thighs to keep them in vague shape... weights make the biggest difference- the hip abductor machines for inner and outer thighs, leg press, squatting with weights and lunges while holding weights- combined with power walking on high incline and the new curve treadmills you find in lots of gyms v good.

MeeWhoo · 07/03/2016 14:43

I do have fat thighs and, even when I am "thin" I still store fat on the gunholder area and inside of the thigh.

However, I am wondering whether there are other factors affecting all these jeans ripping, because DH always rips his jeans on that same area and he doesn't have fat thighs nor does he wear tight jeans...

Abraid2 · 07/03/2016 14:49

I was in New Look and a girl came in to return some jeans which had gone in the inner seams and it reminded me that several of my teenager daughter's jeans had from NL and other stores had gone in exactly the same place.

leedy · 07/03/2016 14:55

"lunges while holding weights"

Yup, walking lunges with weights (aka "the walk of pain") are really good for toning thighs. Though while they do make mine look better they don't make them a whole lot smaller...

oldlaundbooth · 07/03/2016 14:56

Another one here. Lots of input for this thread from me!

Big thighs requires a few things.

Losing weight helps, but even with a BMI of 23 my thighs still meet. You can see the bones in my chest but the CHUB IS STILL THERE! If I'm heavier they meet more (as in further down my leg), that's for sure.

So you can either; lose weight, or learn to dress them.

Skirts and heels make me look thinner, as do jeans/skinny trouser worn with knee length boots. It's all about perception.

Or, wear long tops to cover the chub. Seems to me like big thighs go hand in hand with a small waist and big boobs, so you need to rock that figure.

It's a total pain in the arse having fat thighs. That's why I like 50's style- thigh gap wasn't even a thing, or a non-thing as the case may be! And you got to sleep with Don Grin

Foxedme · 07/03/2016 15:00

I've got fat thighs... But even worse, I have mahoosive knees...😔 So hard to find good jeans...

iMogster · 07/03/2016 15:05

Another thunder thighs owner signing in!
I'm 12/14 on top and 14/16 on the bottom and have the classic parsnip shaped legs. Even at school when I was 8 on top and 10 on the bottom, I had the chaffing problem. It's annoying to know that even when I get down to my pre pregnancy weight (6 years and counting!)I will still have thunder thighs.
All my jeans wear through on the inner thighs. I buy cheap £7.99 New look skinny jeans and keep replacing them. If I buy £40 jeans they last longer but work out more expensive.
I wear A-line dresses and skirts. I find having an asymmetrical hem or seaming helps divert the eyes away from my hips.
I have an annoying double hips thing going on, like a number 3 side profile. Wide on upper hips and then saddle bags. So it's mainly separates for me!
Luckily my DH loves my curves.

2016IsANewYearforMe · 07/03/2016 15:07

I have fat thighs, but I've never had this problem. It must have something to do with the angle of your hips as well.

Those feeling bad about their "thunder thighs" take heart. I used to be obsessed with my heavy thighs when I was younger, but now I am at peace. It's fat in the right place for your heart. It's an extremely womanly shape: men tend to put fat on their middles not their thighs. Women with big thighs have the good fats needed to build healthy baby brains. Perhaps that's why men are attracted to curvy, "coco-cola-bottle" shapes?

Bellasima20 · 07/03/2016 15:12

leedy yes same here "better" but not much smaller. Currently 7 months prg so the walk of pain has gone out of the window and my thighs are returning to their thunderous state and can't really do anything about it!!

iMogster · 07/03/2016 15:13

oldlaundboth Same kinda thing here. I can have ok thighs and skeletal no boobs top half or lovely sexy top half and chaffing thunder thighs. I currently have the latter and dress to make the most of the best bits and divert from other bits.

Touchacat · 07/03/2016 15:23

Great thread! I can relate to everything already said. On a good day, I feel like my thick thighs (and hips and backside) are womanly and sexy; on a bad day (clothes shopping mainly) I just feel like I'm a waddling frump.

Mostly I have good days Smile

oldlaundbooth · 07/03/2016 15:28

It's bizarre too because my mum has very skinny legs, I don't even know who my thighs are from Hmm Apart from the legs we have exactly the same figure!

I have recently put weight on and it is pretty remarkable - it's not on my tum or bum, it's all on my inner thighs! My outer thighs haven't gained at all!

I do have big arms though, even slim I still have muscly arms.

hareagain · 07/03/2016 15:29

When I was younger I went to visit my grandmother who had recently moved into a care home with dementia. I was stood at the side of her, she looked across at me and then announced to the room that I 'had always had big thighs!'
She was right. Ive tried for years to try and eliminate through diet, tna. Ive found the best thing to do as I get older is keep them as toned as possible. I have even managed to create a gap! I do have wide hips and believe that has helped. I think I have even possibly gained an inch or so but I am confident I look better in a bikini than I did ten years ago. Still struggle with finding jeans due to small waist.

LifeofI · 07/03/2016 15:30

no i havent.

Cluesue · 07/03/2016 15:31

Yep,always had humongous thighs and my poor girls have inherited them too the poor things
