I'm all for bargains and I buy from them all but dear god.

Lidl beef Wellington - disgusting. Utterly utterly disgusting.the 'jus' was a salty slime with more than a hint of thyme.

Yabu ive just done my weekly shop like i normally do. Excellent veg and meat and better quality than the local marks and spencer. I love the price. Made the mistake of bringing the catalogue back and dh has seen the garden tools that are in this week so we back tomorrow morning.... The rocket this week is 39p and lvely in sandwiches over the week!

YANBU. I think lidl and Aldi etc are good for basic ingredients but not "ready meal" type things. That's where the quality falls down.

just bought an amazing device to trim my trees - 24 quid - would have been 80 odd quid in B&Q.

I love Lidl's aisle of oddity.

Have to say I agree with the OP. I'll quite happily eat their tomato soup and sauce instead of Heinz, but the Beef Wellington (frozen) was a disappointment.

Just supping a rather nice Czech Black Lager from Lidl but their low fat mayo I bought a while back was absolutely disgusting!

That's what I mean. Great for basics but not the rest. Yet some of their specials have been great. Have also got bargains from aisle of oddity.

I shop at lidl regularly, but I tend to only buy basics as I cook a lot of my food from scratch. I've not tried much of the ready prepared stuff, but I find the veg, meat, frozen fish, tins of pulses and tomatoes, eggs, yoghurt, cheese etc very good quality and cheap.

I agree with the pp's. Raw ingredients are great, ready meals not so good. We love their curry sauces, cheeses and the chicken in a bag ready for roasting.

I didn't like the beef Wellington either but I did like the half duck dish. Roasted in oven, sliced and put it on top of red pepper pesto (SACLA) pasta ~ lovely

YABU. Buy their raw ingredients and make your own. Processed food is rank, no matter what shop it comes from.

I prefer Aldi as their wines are better, however every lidl I've been in has been shite, never anything I'd buy!

No that's untrue, I was in one in Portugal and it was brilliant.

What did you expect a frozen been Wellington from a budget supermarket was going to be like?

I agree that the frozen Beef Wellington is urgh.. However if possible I do my weekly shop there, most everything else is fab.

Lidl macaroons are lush!

We've been to aldi and lidl this week.

We now own a red wall clock (£6 for dd 2), 2 pairs of monster high socks (£2 also dd 2), a pair of nice black leggings (fiver dd 1), several tool things (£6 each dp), two trays of chocolate eggs (30 eggs a tray, fiver each).

We actually got what we went for too. I never buy ready meals but the veg and fruit is so cheap, the bread is cheap and really nice, fresh ravioli half the price of asda and cat litter is £2 a bag.

Probably 75% of the stuff I buy at Lidl is great - fresh fruit'n'veg, meat, smoked salmon, olives, crackers, muesli, chocolate but I've not tried any of the ready meal type things or much from the freezer actually.

Was a bit disappointed with some salty tasting stilton and the ham was a bit tasteless.

Still prefer it to Aldi though

OP, you should charge them for a new advertising jingle. "Salty slime with a hint of thyme...." Catchy.

Basics are fine, but wouldn't ever buy meat or ready meal type things there.

In all seriousness, I've never bought a single product from Lidl, or Aldi for that matter, that wasn't great. But I never buy readyeals, from there or elsewhere
