Not to give out my Sky or Netflix log in?

It seems to be happening more these days that people ask me if I have Sky or Netflix and when I say yes, they ask if they can 'use' my log in details to watch. This is friends and family by the way.

I can't decide if I'm being mean or not.

To clarify, these people don't live in the same house as me.

Don't know about Sky, but there's a "two devices at once" restriction on Netflix. As DCs also use it, if I were to do this I'd sometimes find I couldn't get in as others were watching when I wanted to.

Not mean at all - you're paying to watch those things and they aren't. Tell them to pay for it themselves! You get the first month free on Netflix and I think Sky do vouchers if you recommend it to a friend. At least then you'd get something out of it

Netflix particularly is really not expensive - they are being really tight and could cause you problems (only so many devices can view at the same time)

YANBU as it might even prevent you from being able to use your own subscription... I swear ours only allows one device at a time?

I know someone who has a reciprocal arrangement with a neighbour though. One has a Sky subscription the other has Netflix, they share logins.

It doesn't bother me about Netflix. I didn't even know you could 'share' SKY, but a few of my family members and friends have our Netflix password. Never had any problems trying to watch anything. They tend to use it if I have told them they should watch a certain series. I've never been asked for it though, I have usually offered it up.

Amazing how many people think it's okay. I bet a thread about someone stealing bog rolls from the supermarket toilets would get a different reaction.

I Have SKY, they allow you to use SKYGO on up to 5 different devices. (Only 2 at once) so it's nothing like stealing, it's a service they provide.

I'm happy to give mine to anyone, I'm not bothered in the slightest, it's there so may as well use it. If there is ever an issue change the password .

For a start, it's almost certainly against the T&Cs of the service.

I share my Netflix with my mum. I've just got nowtv though which is fantastic. Does anyone know if that can be logged in on 2 devices? Coz if so I'm cancelling Netflix and using that with the sky movies pass.

The T&C state SKY GO can be used on 5 devices.... It's in the T&C that it is allowed.

Depends how much you like them. My parents use our Netflix account because after an hour of trying to sign them up and the sheer hassle of it (they don't like technology much) I decided it was just easier to add them to the account for the occasional programme they'll watch. Never had an issue with the 2 devices rule but would be much different if they used it all day every day.

Does it define "household" ? As in "5 devices per household" ? I am struggling to believe that Sky are quite happy to let 5 houses in a street watch Sky TV from a single subscription.

It's only 2 devices at any one time.

Basically it was introduced so people could watch sky on their I-phones or I-pads if they were out the house.
A friend who uses mine logs in via his X-box so it goes on his main TV.

It's perfectly legal and above board.

With Sky it's 2 devices plus your main box, so basically 3.

Thanks everyone. Seems that I'm not the only one who thinks it's cheeky. I can understand the SKY one but as another poster said, Netflix is free for a month and only £6 after that, so not a huge amount.

I remember once, an ex asked to use my Sky log in AFTER WE'D SPLIT UP!

I wouldnt give out my sky log in,it's linked to your entire subscription. I'm a hypocrite though as i have my mums so DH can watch football (she has sports,we dont). She has my netflix password though I wouldnt give it to anyone else.

To me it would depend on how close the family were in terms of friends and trust.
I have upped my Netflix account to have more profiles (and devices running at the same time) so share with DCs.
My DD has shared her Amazon with me so we reckon that works out and no one is out of pocket.

Now TV lets you register up to 4 devices and you can watch on 2 at same time

We do it - DF and happily pimps out his SKY log in to both his two "children" despite the fact we are both late 30s and completely independent financially - when questioned he said he was quite happy about it - we suspect that it makes him happy to still feel "needed"

I let my friend have my NOW TV one because she wanted to watch something. I know she wouldnt take the piss.

I'm about using others as a friend accused me of pissing around with her Netflix (I didnt, I didnt even know the password) so I dont use any one elses.

I love doing this. Loads of people have my audible log in details too.

I think of it as "sticking it to The Man"...............
