Not to give out my Sky or Netflix log in?

It seems to be happening more these days that people ask me if I have Sky or Netflix and when I say yes, they ask if they can 'use' my log in details to watch. This is friends and family by the way.

I can't decide if I'm being mean or not.

To clarify, these people don't live in the same house as me.

In the days before you had to put your car number into parking ticket machines, I use to love finding someone to give my ticket to if there was time left!

No, I wouldn't give ours out (we have Netflix & NowTV), I pay so why shouldn't they?

However we did set up our Netflix on Dad's TV when we were visiting so he could see if his broadband was fast enough (he doesn't like giving out card details on the internet for free trials). We watched a few things and I helped him set up his own subscription before we left, and set it all up on his TV.

My Netflix account allows 4 users. My DD1 uses it even though she lives 400 miles away. She also uses my Amazon Prime login to watch stuff and our Sky Go account. DD2 will use all these when she goes off to uni. I wouldn’t let non family members use it though.

Tell them its connected to your prime and you can't share. As for Netflix, jog on is the common term.

ApocalypseSlough · 05/03/2016 08:42

Our Netflix login has the profiles of various friends of DD. tbf she did subscribe initially although we took it over.
Amazon Prime DD2 uses (she's away) she pays but gets the free delivery via my 'Primeness'
She also uses my Asos login for free delivery which is also fine. Not so thrilled when a dress for a friend turned up here because they'd got the address wrong, and I had to return it.
And my Dad and DHs Dad watch Sky sports via our log in.
It's all to the letter legal and frankly I'm not losing sleep about technically depriving those tax dodging shysters of income.

My dad set up his sky go account on my laptop and my sisters desktop so we can use it occasionally. We only did that when virgin removed some of the channels we watch but upgraded the broadband speed.

My parents and my inlaws both have profiles/use my Netflix account. I don't use it as much anymore, my kids aren't using it past 8pm in the evening, so I've no problem with either of them watching something. I think since we've started sharing it - there's only been two occasions where I haven't been able to get on due to too many devices being connected.

BertrandRussell · 05/03/2016 08:49

Unless it inconveniences you, I just can't see why you wouldn't!

NovaArt3mis · 05/03/2016 08:49

You're not being mean. Entirely your choice.

My BIL offered us his Netflix login. We'd happily get our own account if he ever needed to 'free up' a device as it were. But we'd never have asked, it does seem a bit cheeky.

And I gave my SkyGo login details to a friend at work who is undergoing chemo as she asked about borrowing some boxsets from us.

I probably would Hmm if a friend asked though.
