I'm looking for somewhere in London where I can book a proper massage as a birthday present for my 6yo daughter.

Somewhere "naice".

Can anyone suggest anywhere?

Sorry.

What about a pedicure with a foot massage? I think you'd be more likely to find a therapist to do that.

SugarMiceInTheRain · 03/03/2016 19:23

It's a bit of a strange one, but not inconceivable that you might find somewhere that'll do it. There's a place I've been several times which offers pamper parties for girls, so a massage isn't such a stretch really, though they are aimed more at younger teens I think. Unfortunately it's nowhere near London, so I can't really help!

houseeveryweekend · 03/03/2016 19:25

I don't think its weird. I went to baby massage classes with my baby and the teacher said she massages her son every day after school and he was 9! Massage is actually really good for kids. Id say that people insinuating something creepy and sexy about it are the ones with the problems not you.
I work with young girls with mental illness and sometimes with children with learning difficulties and we are always taking them for massages as its really beneficial for treating stress levels. Make sure that the masseuse has been crb checked... many have I know because we obv have to check this before taking vulnerable people there.
Places do offer massage sessions to children just look online and as I said obviously check they have an up to date crb and look for reviews etc.

Sounds more pageant queen type stuff. Certainly not very middle class at all. l

MySordidCakeSecret · 03/03/2016 19:25

so you're telling me that in thailand there are ladies on the beach who will give you a massage? sounds amazing!

WhoaCadburys · 03/03/2016 19:27

I paid for my son to have cranial osteopathy - maybe I should have made it a Christmas present? [Hmm]

ZiggyFartdust · 03/03/2016 19:27

I don't think its particularly weird. Lots of people love massages, children are just small people, they aren't a different species! One of my children would love going for a massage (I'm far too cheap poor to pay for one even if it was available though).
Like the more reasonable people said, I think you'll struggle to find a proper masseuse to work on such a young child, but it does exist.

BlueMoonRising · 03/03/2016 19:28

Wow, why do people think this is so weird?

Our society is so screwed up about touch.

What a great thing to do for your daughter. I'll ask a few massage therapist friend of mine if they know anyone.

thecatfromjapan · 03/03/2016 19:30

Why's it odd? You have baby massage, and we used to massage the children after children's yoga in the classes I took my children to.

That said, I don't know of anywhere, OP.

AppleSetsSail · 03/03/2016 19:32

How strange that the OP is getting such grief about a massage, it's not a pageant type of thing to do but rather just extravagant. I'm sure most kids would probably love one, they're just not aware that they actually exist.

Sparklingbrook · 03/03/2016 19:32

Strange way to ask for some information on MN. In the AIBU topic. Confused

Try your MN Local pages maybe?

Helmetbymidnight · 03/03/2016 19:32

It's not unusual to want to pay a stranger to massage your young kid?

Okay.

Is it a middle class thing?

BlueMoonRising · 03/03/2016 19:33

Treatwell have some places listed, read the listings though as some are for baby massage. Spa Isha is one that offers up to 16, bit not sure how 'naice' it is.

thecatfromjapan · 03/03/2016 19:33

I come telly agree with the poster who suggests we are hung up on touch.

I think that is sad.Sad

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 03/03/2016 19:35

Oh Sparklingbrook, you are a stickler for the rules! Wink

LostInMess · 03/03/2016 19:35

the Gonnagle, my 6-year old also had massage at a resort we stayed in in Thailand not on beach (we have family we were visiting there). They offered massages for children and she absolutely loved it - it was her request after I had one and she spotted it on the list. I stayed with her and she nearly fell asleep.

She also likes lunches out and coffee bars. She's clearly my daughter....Grin

ZiggyFartdust · 03/03/2016 19:36

No, its not a middle class thing. Why is it any weirder to pay a stranger to massage your kid than to pay one to massage yourself?

AppleSetsSail · 03/03/2016 19:36

It's not unusual to want to pay a stranger to massage your young kid?

My kids have had them on holiday when they offer them on the beach, they love them (although no requests for them in the UK). I don't find it weird.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 03/03/2016 19:37

Some of the responses here are ridiculous.

Helmetbymidnight · 03/03/2016 19:37

Right. Everyone is 'hung up on touch if they think paying strangers to massage your small child is unusual?

(It is unusual)

ApocalypseSlough · 03/03/2016 19:39

It does seem weird and I'm not sure why. Baby massage is completely mainstream, but somehow for older children it's strange!
Mysordid it's heavenly. Raised bamboo beds with a view...

Firstlawofholes · 03/03/2016 19:39

I totally agree with those who say that this isn't so strange - extravagant, maybe, but why not, if you think she'd really enjoy it and can find someone who is insured to massage children.

As for the suggestions of a manicure with sparkly polish - now that I personally would find "chavvy". If my own DD wanted her nails done I might do them for her (in a neutral colour) for a special occasion, but at age 6 I really think it would be OTT to take her to a nail bar (but then I don't use those myself and shudder at the idea of false nails etc - so my opinion is probably biased). Seems rather TOWIE to me.

Waypasttethersend · 03/03/2016 19:39

I just knew the first place a poster would suggest finding a child masseuse would be Bristol Grin

It's not MC or chavvy it's hippyish, and I should know because my DDs would love it!

Also you joke about pony massaging but I know a pony party hire that brings along Shetlands that you can dye and paint their hooves glittery!

Sparklingbrook · 03/03/2016 19:40

Not at all ILost, it's just that if you want some proper replies AIBU is not really the topic for it, complete with Confused title.
