To worry about a world where Donald Trump is America's president

someone please reassure me that he is unlikely to be the Republican nominee, let alone become president.

Cannot believe that anyone would take anything he says seriously or agree with any of his beyond offensive vile opinions. Like having Nick Griffin en route to becoming PM Sad.

I think he will get the nomination, but will not be the candidate by the time of the election. I can see something happening to him I'm afraid. The Republican party will then win on a sympathy vote. I have to say that I do watch 'Scandal' which may well have affected my thinking about this.

Yoksha · 03/03/2016 09:59

Miaow

Boris gets next leader of the Tories and you have a world with Boris running the UK, Trump running the US and Putin running Russia

I've thought this since the first caucus. Worse case scenario for mankind IMHOSad

Sunny

Part of the problem is that the GOP - who have majorities most everywhere - haven't been seen to deliver to their heartland yet. That's what Trump is largely trading on right now and I'm not sure that his absence would advantage the Republicans any.

This is the country that re-elected Nixon!

Lweji · 03/03/2016 10:16

I'm hoping that the 60% of republicans not voting for him will pool for another candidate. Having said that, the alternatives aren't great at all.

I do think he's much more moderate than his campaign is making him out to be, but I'm very worried that he's too reckless and argumentative to be a good president.

PoundingTheStreets · 03/03/2016 10:19

I can't take him seriously at all. But he's so mercurial I'm not even sure what he stands for TBH.

cozietoesie · 03/03/2016 10:25

That's populism for you. Wink

EponasWildDaughter · 03/03/2016 10:38

Yeah, this is the country that had Regan and Bush as their presidents.

The longer time goes on the more i believe that the front men in this world are just puppets.

cozietoesie · 03/03/2016 10:49

To be fair, at least you knew with Regan that he was up in his sitting room watching movies while the country was being run by men in grey suits. A president who has both decided views and the means to implement them is arguably more.........challenging. Wink

gotthemoononastick · 03/03/2016 10:52

Cynical old me can't help feeling the whole thing is a scam by dark forces to give Hilary a clear in!

The one with a good moral compass and principles donch'yall know?

Lweji · 03/03/2016 10:53

You mean the "establishment"?
Like a double agent?

Watching all his fans say 'He's gonna make America great again' is just so baffling. It's amazing how people gobble up these soundbites without wondering how exactly this is going to happen.

It's all so fascinating to watch though. From the safety of my home in the UK.

thebiscuitindustry · 03/03/2016 12:49

YANBU. Out of all the people in America I'd have thought there would be more suitable candidates Confused

TheEntWife · 03/03/2016 13:14

There is a suggestion that Mitt Romney is going to resurrect his campaign to save the Republicans from Trump.

MitzyLeFrouf · 03/03/2016 13:17

I doubt it would make an ounce of difference. Isn't he tainted by having lost against Obama last time around?

As awful as Trump is I don't think Cruz or Rubio are much better.

Hillary, the world is counting on you!

megletthesecond · 03/03/2016 13:41

vert I just had the same Trump-Johnson-Putin flash of horror. .

CallaLilli · 03/03/2016 13:46

Now now, claig will be along any moment to tell us we are all BVVU and that a Trump presidency will be the greatest thing ever... Hmm

megletthesecond · 03/03/2016 13:48

He's probably downing his first coffee (breakfast time on the east coast?) and about to get stuck in.

MitzyLeFrouf · 03/03/2016 13:50

meglet I read on a thread yesterday that Trump's Greatest Fan is actually a woman!

I was surprised.

lertgush · 03/03/2016 13:51

I am quietly hoping that Romney will step in and become Republican nominee, then all the hard-right-wing Republicans will vote for Trump as a write-in, splitting the vote nicely and guaranteeing Hillary a win.

Or that Trump is the Republican nominee - which also guarantees Hillary a win.

Trump running in this election has been the best possible thing for the Democrats. I will be caucusing on Sunday with a smile on my face.

cozietoesie · 03/03/2016 14:00

I see that Cruz is to be his running mate.

Lweji · 03/03/2016 14:07

I read on a thread yesterday that Trump's Greatest Fan is actually a woman!

Well, claims to be.

lertgush · 03/03/2016 14:07

Actually I just realised Trump is about 10 miles from me right now. If I popped into town I could catch a glimpse of The Hair. It's quite windy too :-)

cozietoesie · 03/03/2016 14:24

I keep thinking of Rab C Nesbitt - albeit with a button by his side.

LineyReborn · 03/03/2016 14:28

About his hair.

Is it a comb forward?
