AIBU for having a glass of wine while my DD is in bed?

I have a 3YO DD, she has been an absolute nightmare handful today. It's been a long day from hell and now she's in bed in having a glass of wine on my second I feel absolutely fine and not drunk. I've just spoken to my mum on the phone who knew DD wasn't been well behaved today and mentioned I was having a glass of wine and according to her this is outrageous, what if DD is ill and I need to driver her to the hospital ect..

  1. I have no intention of getting drunk so I can't care for her and if she did need to go the hospital I could get a taxi and still be perfectly fit to care for her

    AIBU?

What? It would be unreasonable not to drink under those circumstances! Enjoy.

I thought usual was saying that tongue in cheek to be honest.

Definitely you're allowed a drink- as everyone says if a disaster happened you would call 999 and after a shocking day nothing beats a glass of wine or two. Enjoy and ignore-you've earned it!! I know I have, I have 3 (all under 6) on my own and I've rewarded myself and will keep doing so!
Enjoy!

Enjoy your wine.

Personally I'd go crazy without a glass (or two) in the evening. And on the one occasion when one of my children suddenly became life-threateningly ill late in the evening, there was no question of driving anyway: I called an ambulance.

I'm just waiting for my dcs pal to go home at 9, dc will go to bed and I will partake in a glass or 4 2 of Vino Grin

Your dm has a very short memory need

There are many parents who don't drive at all what do they do in an emergency?

Your last post is revealing NeedSome your mum maybe had some issues with alcohol so is concerned you are using it as a crutch. Mums always worry, even when their kids are all grown up. I'm sure she didn't mean to upset you.

Enjoy a few glasses of wine if you like. Nothing wrong with that.

I mind babysitting friends' kids and being left a bottle to open once the kids were in bed. Obviously my friends didn't expect me to get drunk, but they definitely wanted me to have a glass or two.

So imo YADNBU!

Enjoy your wine.
It's Saturday night. If you can't have a glass of wine on a Saturday night, when can you?

Some evenings, a glass of wine and some nice chocolates are what stands between me and total meltdown.

It's not the wine itself (at least, not if its just one glass!) but it's the feeling of treating yourself, of chilling out and being an adult who is more than just a mum!

It's fine, totally fine.

But my mum would be an arse about it too. She's a righteous lifelong teetotaller. 🙄

I am probably a lot older than your mum, but have 2 with complex health needs 10 & 17. Have just had 2 YES 2 glasses of wine.....I am not drunk just relaxed! Your DM should perhaps chill out,

Enjoy your wine!

viking you couldn't be more right, it's more like I've had an absolutely awful day my DD has pushed me to the absolute limit and back and now she's in bed, I can have something that I enjoy and sit back and relax and be an adult as well

God no! Enjoy your wine! I didn't pass my driving test until DS was 5 and DP worked away regularly. We couldn't afford a car until about 6 months after I'd passed. I regularly had a few glasses on a Friday & Saturday. But until I could drive and had a car it would've been taxi or an ambulance had DS needed A&E. He never did.

If your DC is that ill surely you'd call an ambulance? The paramedics would stabilise and treat them before transfe, if that was necessary. A better option surely than driving down there, trying to find parking and joining the triage queue.

I can't drive so if such emergency as your DM describes comes up my kids are screwed anyway, so I may as well just get drunk Wink. Or maybe I'd call an ambulance or taxi. i'm on my second glass too

Nothing wrong with a bit of mummy juice after a rough day, having some beer right now and hoping DD is finally asleep (silence from her room at least now)

Report

I can't stand that mentality. The expectancy of something bad happening after dc is in bed, being on tenterhooks. Its ridiculous. I am having a glass of wine and more staying at my mums with dd whilst dh does a big diy job at home. Dd now in bed and we are listening to music and having some wine. If the worst was to happen then I would be calling an ambulance anyway. Chin chin. Enjoy
