bostonkremekrazy · 25/02/2016 22:51

2.5 years - everyone nagged me that she'd sleep better if i wasnt bf. i gave in and weened her - she's 3 now and still doesn't sleep through. i regret stopping...
my other 3 are adopted - bottle snuggles are sooooo different. the tiptoeing downstairs to warm the milk at night is so cold in winter i make dh do it! well i did bf everynight for 2.5 years! :)

HelenF35 · 25/02/2016 22:53

Just short of 7 months exclusively but still doing a couple of feeds per day at 8 months. Can only feed him at night because he bites the hell out of me during the day Sad
He's had teeth since 5 months so put up with nearly two months of bleeding and sore nipples before I packed in. Was so upset.

Strawberryleaf I'm another one who can vouch for breastfeeding and working. I went back to work at 13 months and carried on BF until 26 months. I worked two days and on those days I fed morning and evening, and the other days I fed as usual. Just about to go back to work again at 11 months and honestly hadn't even thought about work getting in the way. Provided breastfeeding is well established, it works easily! No swollen boobs or leaking or anything!

Headofthehive55 · 25/02/2016 23:00

15mo
And still going at 18 months.

Izlet · 25/02/2016 23:02

Nearly 4 when she stopped. I went back to work at 9 months, with extra time off for breastfeeding until baby was a year old, then it was just morning and evening, with a bit more at weekends. It wasn't planned, we just kind of kept going. Or rather, didn't stop.

BrokenApril · 25/02/2016 23:04

6 weeks with DC1
2 weeks with DC2

Both times sabotaged by horrendous mastitis and abcesses...septicemia with second baby Shock Sad

Gld I tried, though, and would do it again, even if it was just for a few short weeks and the colostrum.

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 25/02/2016 23:05

DS1 - 9 months (went back to work and have never got the hang of expressing)
DS2 - 6 months (FIL died and for various reasons it was too stressful trying to juggle BFing and support MIL)

DD - self weaned at 2 years, very happy to have one where outside forces didn't intervene.

HairySubject · 25/02/2016 23:05

Oh I went back to work at 10months, ds refused a bottle, barley touched the cup and just fed like a trooper when I was around. My supply adjusted and I only had to hand express once on my first day back, every thing settled quickly. Ds continued to feed on demand the 3 days I was at home and around work hours.

minifingerz · 25/02/2016 23:05

18 months
13 months
2.5 years (would have been longer but I got ill).

Dd 4-4.5 (well sporadically after 4 ish). Ds 4. Dd I had to get off as I was pregnant and it was making me feel ill and I didnt want to tandem feed. She did try after ds was born but found it yucky.

I had not intended to go on so long for either. I'd said til 1 and mix feed a bit. They hated formula though. Everyone who knew (not many) were pretty negative (digusted even) but it worked , it helped them sleep, kept them calm, they were very healthy and had beautiful skin. I certainly wasn't making a point or being weird. It just seemed to happen that way so I am really glad there are a few of us who went on a bitSmile

jimpam · 25/02/2016 23:10

18 months. Stopped after my third bout of mastitis which was horrendous.

fusionconfusion · 25/02/2016 23:12

2 years until pg with dc2 when boobs were too sore to continue
12 months until pg with dc3, same happened
Fully intended to continue until self-weaning with dc3 but at about 15 months weaning somehow accidentally happened. Still feel a wee bit sad about that (he is nearly 2).

Iggi999 · 25/02/2016 23:16

Have only read two pages so can't see if anyone has corrected the OP - the WHO advises a minimum of two years, they do not advise two years.
I think reading this leads people to feel their toddlers must stop at 2, even if neither party is ready.

ouryve · 25/02/2016 23:19

I don't think it leads anyone to feel anything, iggi

Most people who even start, stop before 6 months.

SupSlick · 25/02/2016 23:22

Just short of three years. Tried to stop probably every month for the latter two years through bouts of thrush & recurrent mastitis, but he would NOT give up.

I now have pitta breads for boobs (titta breads?) but I secretly miss snuggling down with him & his little milky breath in a morning.

Oh stop it all of you, you're making me broody!!

CoffeeCoffeeAndLotsOfIt · 25/02/2016 23:24

22 months and then I caught a cold type virus. Ds didn't want anymore after that!

DellyBee · 25/02/2016 23:27

browneyedgirl1974 · 25/02/2016 23:33
