To load everything I possibly can into the dishwasher?

I'm knackered. My 7.5 month old hasn't slept properly in months till 2 weeks ago when he started sleeping in our bed. Great but I can't sleep properly with him in there. I usually wash pots, pans, chopping boards etc by hand and only put crockery and cutlery in the dishwasher. Today I had enough as feel like j spend half my day washing bloody dishes so I loaded the dishwasher with everything and put it on. I feel slightly wasteful and lazy doing this but it's given me loads of extra free time. Would it be reasonable to do this and put the dishwasher on every day or is it a waste of electricity?

Everything goes in mine, I love it, but I'm now glaring at the glass in the oven door and wondering how to get it out so I can shove it in the dishwasher shuffles off to consult manuel and look for screw driver

gunting · 22/02/2016 23:37

Robot aren't you meant to put wooden spoons in the dishwasher? Woops

FankEweVeryMuch · 22/02/2016 23:45

Everything apart from the powk knives (it blunts them) goes in here. Don't feel guilty, just do what you've got to do to get through the day.

PrimalLass · 23/02/2016 00:20

I did have to unscrew the inner part of the oven door but it was so worth it. I just used the normal wash programme.

I used to have an oven where the glass just lifted out.

I have rules:

Always be sure the blades can move freely

Oh that should have been rule Grin

Oh, Alas that was my second rule:

Do not put food particles in it, keep it clean, and it will be your best friend.

Oh, another rule, always empty it so you can put more into it and keep your house kitchen clean. :)

If something can't go in the dishwasher, I pretty much don't use it. We have plastic cutting boards and spoons instead of wooden ones for this reason.

CakeNinja · 23/02/2016 07:41

I put in wooden chopping boards and wooden spoons, Le Creuset with wooden handles, anything wooden.
In the 2 years since we've had this dishwasher, one chopping board has split.
It goes on twice most days on the intensive hottest cycle so I don't think it's bad going.
Anyway, I detest washing up so if it breaks, I will just replace and continue dishwashing it!

londonrach · 23/02/2016 07:42

Dishwashers wash dishes! Go for it every day it change your life!

DoBananasWearPajamas · 23/02/2016 07:45

What about non stick? Our frying pans were ruined
Are there any there that you can put in?

poocatcherchampion · 23/02/2016 07:46

My first coherent thought this morning was "ooh today I am dishwashing the highchair"

IdaJones · 23/02/2016 07:47

I put absolutely everything in including wooden spoons. I rarely wash anything up.

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 23/02/2016 07:49

IME wooden chopping boards or wooden handled pans will be buggered in the dishwasher but wooden spoons are fine. Wooden spatulas tend to suffer eventually but they only cost buttons to replace so I shove them in anyway.

Unfortunately my kitchen is so small there's no space for one on top of the work tops due to the cupboards above.

Walkacrossthesand · 23/02/2016 07:53

I wash pans and baking dishes by hand because, even with a presoak they still come out of the dishwasher with bits stuck fast. Not just my dishwasher either - I've noticed it in other peoples' too. Does no-one else find this? Confused Brillant idea to put washing machine detergent drawer in there, though - I'm trying that!

Roystonv · 23/02/2016 07:55

Ooh liking the idea of washing the soap tray, they do get disgusting and are a right pain to clean,

Everything is fair game unless it's made of wood. If it's made of wood buy a plastic one. Works for me.

Foginthehills · 23/02/2016 08:18

It's cleaner, safer, and more resource-conscious to use your dishwasher as much as possible. As long as you run full loads, you're saving energy & water, and washing everything at a far higher temperature than is possible when washing by hand. It's far more hygienic.

And if you're exhausted & it brings you some relief from endless chores, then that is also a Very Good THing !

AnonymousBird · 23/02/2016 08:38

Nothing gets washed up here, all wooden kitchen utensils go in and we've had them for years. The only time a wooden utensil finally gave up the ghost was when it was left in a pan of hot water for too long and went soft.

If it can't be dishwashed, I don't use it.

DM does a full hand wash up before loading her DW, not sure what she thinks the DW does?!?!?

Tea light holders - am intrigued by this, doesn't the wax just block up your filter/pipes?

MrsJayy · 23/02/2016 08:38

Can i put the fridge compartments and shelves in the dishwasher they are a pita to handwash shelves dont fit it the sink such a faff

AnonymousBird · 23/02/2016 08:41

Oh, and I do put my Waitrose Non-Stick pans in, I may have to replace them after a couple of years (but they are holding out remarkably well so it could be longer.....), but they are the fairly cheap ones so I'd rather dish wash them and replace them than be constantly washing them. They don't lose their non stick and they aren't peeling at all at the edges.

I run mine at least once a day, family of four. Definitely do not feel guilty at all, it's water and energy efficient as well as saving your valuable time for much better things forty winks.

AnonymousBird · 23/02/2016 08:42

All my fridge inserts/shelves went through recently. MrsJayy.
