to think British chocolate

Is just crap compared to Swiss or German chocolate?

I try kitkats and twix and celebrations. They're just so crummy and un-chocolate-y compared to Lindt, Ritter Sport and other chocolates in Europe.

We're being fobbed off with rubbish chocolate.

It's never as bad as Hershey's though. That actually tastes like bile.

Gone right off cadburys. Milka and Lindt has never rocked my world either.

When in Spain te other week, I thought their valor dark choc with nuts was so lively I bought three bars.love a bit of dark toblerone ut it's difficult to get it now.

American chocolate is disgusting. Never ate it while out there. Or the disgusting sugar laden crap desserts or sugar infested bread. Gross.

MamaLazarou · 18/02/2016 10:28

If you don't like Cadbury's, don't buy Tesco's own brand milk chocolate. I tried some the other day and it was just like eating hard, brown lard. No flavour and didn't melt properly. Gross!

Sallyingforth · 18/02/2016 10:39

Green & Blacks is also Mondelez now. I don't know if they've changed that recipe, but I won't buy anything that Mondelez make because of their broken employment promises and extreme tax-dodging. That includes Oreos and Philadelphia.

scarednoob · 18/02/2016 10:47

Yep, cadburys bought green and blacks a long time ago. My friend used to work for cadburys and he said that they made them move from the plush head offices in Mayfair to the cadburys offices in uxbridge. Apparently it almost broke him as he sat there slumped in the horrible concrete offices!

scarednoob · 18/02/2016 10:48

Sorry, by "him", I meant the boss at green and blacks - he didn't seem to like the change!

BarbaraofSeville · 18/02/2016 12:54

Cadbury's has always been shit.

For the Hotel Chocolat fans, they currently have a lot of their Christmas and Valentines stuff at 50-70% off but the dates are end of Feb/March/April.

I went to their factory shop yesterday and they have quite a lot left - can order online too. I got two huge Christmas boxes and a couple of other bits for £20.

OurBlanche · 18/02/2016 16:04

Bugger, I just bought some G+Bs, must have missed the Mondeleze by out Sad

But there are 3 or 4 names here that I will just have to try. I won't thank anyone until I have tasted.... not that I am sceptical or anything Smile

hmcAsWas · 18/02/2016 16:07

I prefer British chocolate to fancy smancy Swiss and Belgian stuff etc, and not for some bizarre patriotic reason. I obviously have unsophisticated tastes Grin

Sallyingforth · 18/02/2016 16:49

I think Mondelez try not to publish the G&B connection. Last time I looked at their website it wasn't listed amongst their products.

londonrach · 18/02/2016 17:02

Barbara..thats the name of the shop hotel chocolate. Awful bitter chocolate. I won a few bars ages ago when a shop opened in our local town and im afraid i binned it as it was so bitter. Surprised it still around. Almost as bad as american chocolate.

DickDewy · 18/02/2016 17:10

I am not a fan of Hotel Chocolat, although their stuff looks appealing.

My friend just gave me a bag of their 'puddles' (big buttons) - but they really weren't nice.

MitzyLeFrouf · 18/02/2016 17:32

Oh I like Hotel Chocolat's stuff.

ClarenceTheLion · 18/02/2016 18:11

I like the caramel flavoured chocolate from Hotel Chocolat but a lot of what they do is too fussy for me.

I miss Cadbury's. I can still remember the taste of a Dairy Milk bar, it was so nice. I don't even think of trying the current imposter, I know it will resemble vomit flavoured candle wax.

How did the Cadbury's campaign go on here? Some people would praise a box of mud to the skies if it was free Grin

Andrewofgg · 18/02/2016 18:25

Bournville is good. But real chocolate comes from Belgium!
