sstewart2016 · 17/02/2016 19:14

I phoned the maternity unit at 11am today after contracting since yesterday, they told me to come in for 5 tonight. Still contracting and I haven't been checked on
Just on a bed right next to the nurses station where I can here one nurse saying "bed 3 (me) can't possibly be in Labour she must have ate too much" is this standard Confused this is my first so no idea. Just in so much pain and not really sure what I expected Blush

lj indeed. Call me a skeptic but I've read the NICE guidelines thoroughly for my upcoming delivery and have read lots of stories of incompetent midwifery care. But sadly the attitude that the professionals know best and we shouldn't question them causes many a woman to suffer in silence. If I were the OP I would have wanted to know this wasn't right so I could kick up a fuss.

Lj8893 · 20/02/2016 18:47

That was my intention darth. It was clear that the op was given no information or input into her care plan, which meant she wasn't given the chance to make an informed choice and instead went along with whatever they were telling her, or not in some cases. I just wanted the op to have a bit of information, and I was particularly concerned about some of the bad practice. But I got shouted down because they are medical professionals don't you know!

goodnightdarthvader1 · 20/02/2016 19:00

And yet telling the OP horrific stories about one's own birth / induction experience is oddly ok...

Lj8893 · 20/02/2016 19:01

Or "I had such a positive experience so you will too". Because that's how it works!

EnjoyTheSimpleThingsInLife · 20/02/2016 19:08

Good luck OP!!

MrFMercury · 20/02/2016 19:11

Good luck young lady. It'll be worth it I promise x

Sallystyle · 20/02/2016 19:14

I guess they called her in because they wanted to check on her with her HG and severe anaemia.

Why the fuck they didn't check her for ages or gave her the drip without breaking the waters in anyones guess. I wonder if the OP got a bit confused about what was going on? If this all played out the way the OP says it did then her care has indeed been shocking and possibly negligent.

elliejjtiny · 20/02/2016 19:14

Good luck OP. I was craving ice cold coke in labour with DS5.

I had the drip with no pessarys when I was induced with DS5. Waters had already gone (9 days before). He was an attempted vbac so couldn't have the pessary because it's harder to control how fast labour goes with a pessary while the drip can be turned down if needed.

DinoSnores · 20/02/2016 20:12

All sounds good, sstewart. Hope it is all going in the right direction or, hopefully even given the no updates for the last 3 hours, you might even have your baby in your arms right now!

MagratsFlyawayHair · 20/02/2016 20:49

Just read your thread. You've been doing so well under very difficult circumstances. Keep going, not long now.

NameChangeEr · 20/02/2016 22:52

Not waiting out for the birth announcement at all, nope not me.

mogloveseggs · 20/02/2016 22:56

Hope you're OK op

summerdreams · 20/02/2016 22:57

Wow you've had it really hard. I read loads of birth stories and it sounds about right. If I told people the story of when I was having a csection and the surgeons where arguing over me as i laid naked on a table with like 20 people in the operating theatre, why they couldn't leave it for the night staff as it wasn't strictly an emergency. I was 33 weeks had an infection and needed an operation. Im sure people would doubt that but its sadly true. Really hope you've had your lo now Flowers

DisappointedOne · 20/02/2016 23:42

I had been contracting for 3 days (enough to get no sleep) when I was sent in by a community midwife who told me I "wasn't even close" to being in early labour. Trace at hospital said otherwise Hmm but I was given the gel to "speed things up". Waters were in tact until I was gone 6cm and felt the urge to push. Soaked everyone, including DH. Blush. When I got to 10cm they let me push for about 2 hours (I had no energy and awkwardly shaped plumbing) before prepping me for theatre. DD arrived by forceps 12 hours after the gel was given.

She'll be remaining an only child.

goodnightdarthvader1 · 21/02/2016 09:56

Morphine? I've not heard of that as labour pain relief in the UK.

What the hell kind of hospital is this? OP, can you tell us the area so we can avoid?

bumbleymummy · 21/02/2016 10:03

diamorphine maybe?

Titsalinabumsquash · 21/02/2016 10:06

Plenty of hospitals use diamorphine in labour wards. Hmm
