I phoned the maternity unit at 11am today after contracting since yesterday, they told me to come in for 5 tonight. Still contracting and I haven't been checked on
Just on a bed right next to the nurses station where I can here one nurse saying "bed 3 (me) can't possibly be in Labour she must have ate too much" is this standard Confused this is my first so no idea. Just in so much pain and not really sure what I expected Blush

The medical staff have access to all op's medical info. It's not really helpful to try to second guess them.

Lj8893 · 20/02/2016 15:23

fate if somebody's active labour failed to progress then they might be likely to introduce the drip without pessarys etc. but that would be augmentation of labour, not induction.

Lj8893 · 20/02/2016 15:24

I've not once tried to second guess them, just given the op information and guidelines that have been relevant to her situation.

IndomitabIe · 20/02/2016 15:41

Of all the hysteria and overreaction here:

FATEdestiny: "Under what circumstances do they go straight to oxytocin without doing a peccary first?"

OP's been contracting for days. I'm not a midwife, and I'm not there, so I can't comment on whether a pessary would be useful for someone who's been in latent/slow/early labour for days already.

I don't think the OP's specified what exactly will be in the drip anyway.

I'm sure the medical staff have it covered. Either way, they won't change their practice based on the OP reading what randoms on the internet have been speculating.

Anyway, a peccary definitely won't help the situation (have you ever smelled one?!) Grin

Good luck OP!

Aww had to post to say good luck op.. Flowers Totally feel for you, was induced with my 1st, spent 5 days contracting and not dilating! Luckily DH stayed whole time had our own room, and went off to hospital restaurant and walks round grounds! Finally on day 4 at 1cm got put on drip, given epidural, waters broken, dilated through the night and got to 10cm, finally on day 5 after all morning and lunchtime waiting for her to come down more ready for pushing, I then spent an hour pushing, couldn't get her out, went to theatre, prepped for section, but they managed to pull her out with forceps! After history of miscarriages, was just hugely relieved to finally have our longed for baby! Grin Ds was a different story, also a planned induction due to gestational diabetes, went in about 4pm on due date, not seen til 7ish, told might be having mild contractions but really busy so probably wouldn't be inducing that night, DH went home to be with Dd to return in morning. About midnight lovely male midwife (one of same I had with DD) said they were quiet so could start me off, I was whooping and high fiving him, I figured it would be long winded like dds induction, got pessary about 1am, excitedly tx DH, midwife said if I woke for a wee after 3am pull cord so he could check me over rather than waking me, I woke at 3.30am, went wee, then starred shivering and chattering, suddenly intense back pain, thought it was due to the small bed! midwife gave paracetamol, hooked me up to traces, showed strong reg contractions getting stronger and more frequent, by now starting to scream in pain asked for epidural, but checked and was told only 1cm about 4.45am and offered pethidine which didn't want, called DH, huge pauses in conversation as I screamed through contractions, DH called his parents so he could come back to hospital but still expecting a long time, was probably now about 5. 30am, so relented to pethidine, midwife went to prep it, I'm in room on my own screaming, waters went, all I had was gas and air, but couldn't keep it in my mouth for screaming, midwife came back in room, I screamed about my waters going, he checked me and looked horrified as he buzzed emergency buzzer and midwives rushed in to whisk me to delivery suite as Ds was about to fly out! Went from 1-10cm in 90mins! Shock Ds came flying out in couple pushes and DH missed everything! Was actually a bit traumatic.. So, just wanted to say that births, inductions and hospital protocol can have such varying extremes, but all that matters at the end of it is your beautiful little baby in your arms! Best of luck op and I'll be lurking for news! Grin

BabyDubsEverywhere · 20/02/2016 15:44

I have had three inductions, my waters have never been broken before the drip, all successful births, no sections etc.

Lj8893 · 20/02/2016 15:47

You have been lucky then baby. Hopefully the op will be too and her baby will be here soon! Smile

DinoSnores · 20/02/2016 15:56

sstewart2016, you are certainly not a failure. You've nurtured this baby for 9 months and done so well to do that, especially with dehydration, HG and anaemia. You must be exhausted after the last few days. However this baby comes out, you are not a failure. You are very, very soon going to meet your baby. Flowers

I don't think it will be long now op, judging by your craving and spelling Wink looking forward to baby announcement!

NeedACleverNN · 20/02/2016 16:57

I had my waters broken with dd. It was such a bizarre feeling isn't it?

Felt like I had wet myself.

They went naturally with ds....timed perfectly to go in the face of the midwife and my husband as they were both down that end at the time Grin

Lj8893 · 20/02/2016 17:02

clever Grin one of the doctors I work with often tells the story of how he has learnt the hard way to always make sure his mouth his shut when he breaks waters now!

MagpieCursedTea · 20/02/2016 17:27

Sounds like it won't be long now!

tangerinesarenottheonlyfruit · 20/02/2016 17:51

Good luck sstewart2016. Thinking of you and wishing you strength!

You can do this! :)

witsender · 20/02/2016 17:57

Whoop! Well done OP. I'm excited for you.

My waters went just after I had been to the loo...stood up off loo to wipe (tmi, sorry) felt like I needed to push so my body did, waters went straight down the loo...job done!

goodnightdarthvader1 · 20/02/2016 18:06

This is so weird. Why did OP go in with contractions at 8mins apart in the first place?

Sallystyle · 20/02/2016 18:07

Because they told her to go in darth

Good luck OP :)

sexesam · 20/02/2016 18:08

Good luck stewart! Hope you got your ice cold coke! X

goodnightdarthvader1 · 20/02/2016 18:12

But I can't understand why they would do that. This hospital is nuts.

Lj8893 · 20/02/2016 18:21

I wouldn't bother darth, I don't understand lots of this hospitals intentions and care but because they are medical professionals we are all just meant to trust them Hmm.

It all sounds like it's heading in the right direction now though Smile

goodnightdarthvader1 · 20/02/2016 18:22

They got her to come in them ignored her for 12 hours. What was the point?

IsEatBedThyme · 20/02/2016 18:25

Good luck!

MrsPCR · 20/02/2016 18:35

Good luck! read the thread so placemarking for the baby!

Afreshstartplease · 20/02/2016 18:38

Good luck op!

outputgap · 20/02/2016 18:38

You should not have the gel first if there is any suspicion that you are in early labour. The gel can cause contractions to go all over the place. Presumably this is why op went straight to drip, as I did with dc1.
