He's a great actor, and he made ace Bond. But - Bond is not blonde. Fact.

Roll on Aidan Turner.

Chiwetel should be a candidate too.

Not too shy given some of his scenes...

The reason moody pants Craig hated being bond was because it typecast him and stole the best years of his career away from doing serious stuff (that and he's just a grumpy git)

It's the lazenby dilemma - you need to do enough to create a profile but not so much that it becomes your career

Having looked at the thread I think it shows what a bad idea it would be for anyone to send it to barbs! What a load of different ideas. She needs to decide what direction the franchise is going to take and pick an actor that will fit that.

Yseulte

Sam Heughan!!!!!!

Yes please.

Currently Jamie Fraser in Outlander. I read through this thread thinking well it should be Sam Heughan really. Tall, very handsome, Scottish, fab actor, awesome thighs.

Haven't watched Bond since Goldeneye - went to see it because of Sean Bean.

Girls, girls, girls, you're all wrong.

THIS is the new Bond...

To be glad that Daniel Craig has resigned as Bond?
SoupDragon · 15/02/2016 21:41

Perhaps if Aidan Turner was Bond people would be able to spell his name correctly Wink

GarlicBake · 15/02/2016 21:45

Grin kate

I have no idea whether Davood Ghadami can play a murderous misogynistic psychopath (he's Kush in EE) but, ahem.

Yseulte · 15/02/2016 21:45

Sam Heughan that's it! He's going to the top of my list.

AT's still in the lead though.

springscoming · 15/02/2016 21:48

AT can tango?

Moln · 15/02/2016 21:49

I'm with AT too. There it's decided.

It has been done, and cannot be undone.

Tell the broccoli one.

lostincumbria · 15/02/2016 21:52

You do all know Craig hasn't actually resigned and is still under contract for a further film?

tabulahrasa · 15/02/2016 21:52

"The internet says that Aiden Turner is 5'11" so not really titchy. Not like David Tennant who is miniscule."

David Tennant is 6ft 1... He's not right for bond IMO, but he isn't minuscule.

CaveMum · 15/02/2016 21:52

Prerequisites for Bond:

Must be British
Must be 40ish or older - he's a Commander in the Navy and it's very, very rare for anyone to reach that rank before their late 30s, more commonly mid-40s

Anything else is up for grabs.

CaveMum · 15/02/2016 21:55

I was going to say lostincumbria, I can't find any news agencies carrying this as fact. All I've found is a Daily Mail link claiming there are rumours he might quit.

OnePingOnly · 15/02/2016 21:57

DC is/was a great Bond. He gave good inner turmoil and tortured angst to the role!

Aiden Turner? Please no, just don't get the attraction at all (I'm old enough to remember the REAL Ross Poldark though).

Tom Hardy an absolute doll - but too young. Give him @five years and he'll slay it.

Idris Elba - another stunning man and would be great to see the franchise stretch itself by going against the, to date, wasp template. But agree with a PP that he's too pint of lager and some pork scratchings down the pub to be pure Bond material.

There is an actor out there - mature and seasoned, but as yet probably not on the luvvie or populist radar - Barbara has the time and money to find him/her.

(I'd vote for a gauche and naïve Bond myself - James McAvoy (but maybe he's just MY personal Bond - apologies to Anne-Marie Duff, you lucky, lucky woman! An amazing actor in her own right).

Moln · 15/02/2016 21:57

Erm hum, minor adjustment:

Prerequisites for Bond:

Must be British or Irish
Must be 40ish or older (or w he's a Commander in the Navy and it's very, very rare for anyone to reach that rank before their late 30s, more commonly mid-40s, or 32...

lostincumbria · 15/02/2016 21:59

CaveMum yep - agreeing to make a Tv show which doesn't even have a channel yet, does not a resignation make.

Moln · 15/02/2016 21:59

Steve Waddington (must have stubble slight beard)?

limitedperiodonly · 15/02/2016 22:00

Really lostincumbria? Good.

I think he's great. I saw a Mail piece but just thought they always have it in for him because he won't talk to them so they'd cobbled it together from cuts - mostly from a Time Out interview where he said he'd rather slit his wrists than do another Bond film. I think he was joking but it never does to joke.

I think he could do one more film but after 50 is probably pushing it.

BYOSnowman · 15/02/2016 22:02

Didn't he say that the only reason he would do another bond is for the money

I think they would be better releasing him from the contract and getting someone new. It's pretty obvious he is painting by numbers now. And the fact all the films end in the same way is pissing me off.

And he's starting to look old. I think pierce brosnan did one film too many - and roger. They reminded me of my dad and that's not good in a bond film

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 15/02/2016 22:02

Ooh tricky. I reckon they need to cast someone who's between the ages of 30 and 35 today, because they'll need him to be throwing goons convincingly through scenery for the next 10 years. And you want someone who can walk into a hotel, and say to the female receptionist "I'll have a room with a large bath, and do you fancy joining me in it at all?" and convincingly get the answer "yes why the hell not". Henry Cavill fits the bill for me but I don't think you can really cast Superman as James Bond, it's too confusing.

GarlicBake · 15/02/2016 22:03

I've changed my mind about Sam Heughan. I'm sure he'll be relieved to hear it.

He's more versatile than I thought. He could be Bond :)

Aidan Turner for me too.

Grin TerribleKnitter for 'Fanny Gallops' - brilliant!

rosebiggs · 15/02/2016 22:03

I don't like DC as Bond. He's made the role too serious and dark.
