Because it seems to be getting harder to buy the non-scented kind these days! But honestly, who thought it was a good idea to put something heavily perfumed so fanjo-adjacent? AIBU to think it was probably a man?

And yes, I know I should probably use a mooncup and reusable pads but I'm not quite there yet!

They are the very worst.

I got some by accident recently. DD had one in her blazer pocket (unused) when she was stood at the bus stop and her friends could smell it.

The smell is ghastly and they do make me sore.

CallaLilli · 16/02/2016 09:56

It isn't even just sanpro, the last time I was in Boots I couldn't believe the number of "feminine wash" or "feminine spray" products on display. Since when did women start to think they smell so bad that they need all this? The genital area doesn't really need anything except water to cleanse it.

Pyjamaramadrama · 16/02/2016 09:57

Yanbu, they stink. They smell like toilet cleaner, give you thrush.

Why, just why?

It's really hard to find any unscented ones now.

ouryve · 16/02/2016 10:06

I picked up a load of bodyform liners knocked down to 50p a pack in Wilko, last year. I suspect that may have been the last of the unscented.

eurochick · 16/02/2016 10:10

The smell is so nasty. I once bought a pack by accident and kept them in my drawer at work. My whole office reeked when I walked in the next day. Why, just why, would anyone think we want our fannies to smell like a minicab?

LongHardStare · 16/02/2016 10:11

Great idea CrtcetQuaverMinim - twitter.com/always

BadDoGooder · 16/02/2016 10:41

YADNU!
I use a mooncup so no fuss from my end, but I am deeply concerned that teenage girls are being fed the message that their natural body functions and smell are "gross", that they should hide their periods, that they should wash a very delicately balanced area of their body in heavily scented soaps, that they should risk their genital health in order to conform to society's view that periods are somehow wrong and shameful.

Goingtobeawesome · 16/02/2016 11:45

I thought the wings helped stop leakage on the side of the pants BlushConfused.

What would be really helpful for me as I have a memory like a sieve is if people could post photos of the packaging that are definitely non fragranced. I find even if the words imply they aren't scented when I sniff the box I'm not always sure. My 12 year old has periods now and I don't want her reacting. She's very private so wouldn't necessarily tell me immediately, if at all.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 16/02/2016 12:29

Dh did the supermarket shop on his own last week, and he's bought me Always towels instead of Tesco's own brand ones - they were out of the own brand.

I have had to start using them, as I'd run out - but I am off to my local tesco to see if they've any in stock, and I'll keep the scented ones for emergencies.

Mind you - I'm not sure what sort of emergency would require me to have an air-freshener-scented fanjo....

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 16/02/2016 12:33

That's what the wings do for me, regardless of their original purpose! But I don't use them anymore, as I mostly use tampons, and liners as back-up - I'm trying to find non-scented liners in a decent size. I don't find them irritating to my skin, but just the smell is overpowering, even those ridiculous acti-pearls.

That was the tweet account I meant - but not sure how to link this to it, so perhaps someone with more know-how can do it.

Lweji · 16/02/2016 12:38

Wings were a gift from the gods, as far as I'm concerned. I was really happy when pads finally started having them.

ActivelyAnxious · 16/02/2016 13:44

Excited101

The green soft and fit ones I have certainly seem to be scented, but it could be 'acti-pearls' as people have mentioned.

I must admit I did appreciate the fact that they are packaged in plain white wrappers with no hearts or flowers or whetever other cheery, girly images seem to find their way onto a lot of sanpro. Hmm One type I've used actually has a heart shape on the pad itself that you use to make sure it's round the right way. Fecking hell. Grin

FairyDustDreamer · 16/02/2016 16:01

Pad wise, Tesco Everyday value ultra towels good.
No wings but I don't like wings so that is fine.

NoPowerInTheVerseCanStopMe · 16/02/2016 16:20

I hate scented sanpro. They make me itch like crazy and I always feel smellier and dirtier when using them. They make me feel sweaty downstairs too. Since having DS I seem to have lost my tolerance for non-scented pads as well so I switched to cloth pads and haven't looked back! They're so comfy! Anyone thinking of giving them a go, I like the Cheeky Wipes ones but I haven't really tried any others.

PollyPerky · 16/02/2016 16:26

There is one type of Always without perfume. They are in an orange wrapping and are the basic 'normal' and with no wings.. All the green and purple wrappings are perfumed.
They also do the foam ones that are in a purple box and are more expensive but are not perfumed.

GnomeWare · 16/02/2016 16:40

Why, just why, would anyone think we want our fannies to smell like a minicab?

lol - this ^^^

Bodyform So Slim pantliners in the luminous green box are okay, don't smell of anything much to me.

Actually I'm glad I've read this thread, I've had AWFUL itching after using some heavy duty night pads - it wasn't immediately during/after so I hadn't made a connection, but maybe that's it... the brand I have (Aldi I think) isn't highly scented but they definitely are a bit perfumed, hmm......

JuxtapositionRecords · 16/02/2016 18:42

i clicked on the Always Twitter page and thought I had been redirected to a Forever Living site! It's very..urm, twee.

I thought of you lot on here when I went to buy sanitary towels today as I hate the itchy stinky ones too. Thought I was clever getting sainsburys own as it didn't mention scent only 'odour control'. Went to use one and ffs they stink !

TheGoldenApplesOfTheSun · 16/02/2016 19:07

Ugh, I bought some of the bastards by accident the other day - they reek! And make me itch. I don't wear perfumes and steer clear of scented washing powders due to my allergies, so why I would want a rank, air freshener scented crotch...! Packaging talks about 'odour neutralising pearls', I call bullshit. Stupid idea, never buying Always again til they stop this - and I really liked their towels with the wings!

Goingtobeawesome · 16/02/2016 19:37

I've never seen any masculine wash..

ElizabethG81 · 16/02/2016 19:46

I like them Blush They don't irritate me and they seem to neutralise, rather than have a strong odour.

SirVixofVixHall · 16/02/2016 20:00

Actively- I have been having the sticky problem with Bodyform too! Also having used them for years, I may email them to let them know. It doesn't seem to happen with every type of towel though.
To the pp who said that they could only get brightly coloured washables- I have ones from earthwisegirls that aren't dyed at all, and I also have the Charlie Banana ones that are lilac on the underside, but plain white next to the skin. They came with a little black zip pouch to put used ones in when out and about, and as you re-fold and popper them up first anyway, then they aren't much hassle. I mainly keep them for night and home times though, as I find with some styles of pants they can slip about a bit. They work best with briefs which are snug at the leg opening, whereas I tend to wear shorties with no leg elastic, so they have less to hold them in place. They do wash easily though, I did soak them at first but there isn't any need, now I just bung them in a normal wash. They dry fast too.

CallaLilli · 16/02/2016 20:04

Goingtobeawesome, given the state of some men there should definitely be a masculine wash!!

OP posts:
Goingtobeawesome · 16/02/2016 20:06

I agree.

80sMum · 16/02/2016 20:10

I too can't abide the scented pant liners. I used to use Always and Carefree but it's getting more difficult to find non-scented ones now.
I bought some "cotton fresh" by mistake and couldn't use them! The smell hit me when I opened the packet. It was a very "public lavatory floral disinfectant" sort of smell - and so strong! Awful.

I now use these instead.

GnomeWare · 16/02/2016 21:19

Yes - masculine wash! Don't see much of that about do you.
