Just that really. Ok, completely a first world problem but aibu to just really really hate the buggers and never ever wear them?

They are uncomfortable, awkward and just a downright pain in the arse.

I know some people say they have to wear them for work but I just think this is bollocks (the dress code that would require them, not the claim itself!). I mean, why are bare women's legs inherently 'unprofessional'? As long as you are clean and well groomed why does it matter??

Especially the flesh coloured ones, why does wearing a millimeter thin covering of flesh coloured virtually transparent material over your legs make you professional and well presented while having bare legs doesn't?

Aibu? Is there some benefit to them that I am so far unaware of?

I hate the fuckers. I ha e to buy large as I am tall but this just means they slip down with the crotch around the knees and the waist band cutting into my hips and making me an odd shape. I hand tried so many brands, the best I found were in new look surprisingly. I only wear stockings for sexy times as I find getting them on a bit of a palaver.

shortaris1 · 12/02/2016 22:12

Thanks Raspberry think I need to try a waspie type belt!

StubbleTurnips · 12/02/2016 22:14

Opaque hold ups, I spend a lot of money on them - the expensive ones last.

Or as raspberry says, stockings.

Sweaty gusset = vom face > Envy

Woodhill · 12/02/2016 22:14

I used to wear stockings but not keen as the tabs sometimes show through skirt. Depends on style.

I don't mind tights tbh

I've used Stockings Direct, also Stockings HQ (diff website).

I found Charnos 24/7 good, everyday stockings that last, but they can be a bit warm for me. Sainsbo are a surprisingly good alternative.

I love the look of my black opaques but no matter what size / length / brand I buy I can't buy them to fit. They are either massive and will come up over my boobs or they fall down.

JaceLancs · 12/02/2016 22:20

Falke or Spanx from tkmaxx work best for me
M & S are usually ok too

Before I realised that you can just cut the gusset out of tights I used to wear hold ups. For about 5 years I had to wear them day in, day out, all winter. Fecking babe of my life they were. They all fall down eventually, especially if you have dry skin. The expensive ones- some were better (falke, max mara), some were not (charnos), but they all gradually lost their stick. It was the stress of not knowing when they would go and where you would be when it happened. I still remember that feeling when they started to slip- the sense of panic. The time spent sorting through them each morning trying to work out which ones were vaguely reliable and which would definitely head south. I bloody hate the things. Tights are uncomfortable but at least you don't risk public shaming!

Madeyemoodysmum · 12/02/2016 23:35

Does cutting the gusset out help then bolshy?

blueshoes · 13/02/2016 00:13

Not sure what the problems with tights is. I'd rather tights than trousers. My hold ups don't stay up and therefore tights it is.

Tights are not the sexiest looking things but they smooth out any VPLs and prevent blisters.

I personally don't like my bare legs especially now I am older. The colouring on my skin is less even and it is white from lack of exposure to the sun. I feel they give away my age. Hence, I wear sheer flesh coloured tights in the office.

Alconleigh · 13/02/2016 07:23

I use the M&S opaque hold ups as well. I have skinny legs and they are one of the few cheaper brands which stay up. their flesh colour ones are ok as well. I don't wear trousers to work at all as I don't own any, so it's hold ups pretty much all year round, except June, July and August, if we get an actual summer. I am exceptionally pale though so I'm only revealing bare legs if I've sorted out some fake tan etc. I have fantastic legs shape wise but the natural colour is that awful almost blue / purple white. The downside of red hair......

ladygracie · 13/02/2016 07:30

Primark have the best tights. Abc they are cheap.

Bolshybookworm · 13/02/2016 07:56

No thrush, made Grin
I've got fantastically pale legs, Alconleigh but I refuse to hide them away. No way am
I wearing tights all summer just because our society is bloody obsessed with tanning.

WhyCantIuseTheNameIWant · 13/02/2016 08:31

I have never worn tights. Possibly as a kid, I don't remember.

And one occasion as a pre-teen for a wedding.

I turned down a job, as the uniform HAD to wear tights.

Dd wears wooly ones, but she is only 3. She isn't impressed as she can't take them off in the car like she does with socks.
