to bloody hate tights?

Just that really. Ok, completely a first world problem but aibu to just really really hate the buggers and never ever wear them?

They are uncomfortable, awkward and just a downright pain in the arse.

I know some people say they have to wear them for work but I just think this is bollocks (the dress code that would require them, not the claim itself!). I mean, why are bare women's legs inherently 'unprofessional'? As long as you are clean and well groomed why does it matter??

Especially the flesh coloured ones, why does wearing a millimeter thin covering of flesh coloured virtually transparent material over your legs make you professional and well presented while having bare legs doesn't?

Aibu? Is there some benefit to them that I am so far unaware of?

YANBU. They are too thin to be warm in the winter and they snag and ruin so easily they're not practical. It's trousers in the winter and bare legs if I'm wearing skirts in the summer. I don't understand what's unprofessional about bare legs either.

HairyLittleCarrot · 12/02/2016 17:58

They are utterly vile, uncomfortable, stupid things, and I hate em.
And I can't imagine fellas enduring a completely impractical, slipdownable, dropcrotchable, wrinkled ankle slumpable, uber-pluckable, failed-washable, uncomfortable garment for the purposes of pure aesthetics.

And on the very rare occasions that decide that they aren't really so very detestable and I try out a pair, like, ooo I know, I'll wear some cable knitted chunky tights with a sweater dress and boots and scarf and look all cosy and happy like an 'autumn looks' pinterest pin I end up cursing my too-short memory.

Tights are evil.

NuggetofPurestGreen · 12/02/2016 18:00

I love tights! Can wear skirts and dresses in the winter. And I think they are warmer than trousers.

Obviously I mean black opaques not lady tights.

FeedMyFaceWithJaffaCakes · 12/02/2016 18:01

Some of them i do because they give me pricey bottom syndrome BlushBrewCake

NuggetofPurestGreen · 12/02/2016 18:01

Bare legs in the summer though (for the two weeks of summer we get)

WilderIngalls · 12/02/2016 18:06

I love them, wear them pretty much every day even when I'm not at work.
M&S body sensor 60 denier. I find them much comfier than trousers, I wonder if differently shaped bodies just fit them better?
I bought a pair from Boots once that I could only get half way up over my bum. I think you do have to shop around to find the ones that fit you!

OllyBJolly · 12/02/2016 18:19

I hate tights.

I wear them because I like wearing dresses. I find they are comfortable the first couple of times you wear them but don't wash well, and quite often pull on my cracked heels so have to replace them often. At £4 a pop they are expensive.

Artandco · 12/02/2016 18:19

I buy falke tights usually. More expensive but last forever ( I have 10 year old tights at least from them as well as newer)

shutupandshop · 12/02/2016 18:22

I hate putting them on

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 12/02/2016 18:58

I'm currently wearing M&S opaque black hold-ups. They really are great, stayed up all day without moving or pinching. I had a suspender belt on standby but no, didn't need it.

I wear the 10 denier and 15 denier also and they're just as good though obviously don't last as long.

DIYandEatCake · 12/02/2016 19:14

I love my woolly fleece-lined thermal tights - lovely and warm, can wear dresses in the winter, don't fall down at all and are basically warm leggings with feet and no seams. I don't like the thin, synthetic 'opaque' tights much though.

SenecaFalls · 12/02/2016 19:21

I hate them with a passion. I think I last wore them in 1997. I almost always wear trousers, plus I live in Florida where bare legs are always acceptable.

sonjadog · 12/02/2016 19:27

I wear tights every day from early autumn to late spring. M&S Autograph 60 denier or Falke for woolly tights. There are many terrible tights out there so you have to find the brand that works for you and then stick with it.

Forgetmenotblue · 12/02/2016 19:27

They are the work of the devil himself.

I wear leggings instead under most things. If required I have got some very thick Lycra footless dancer tights which I got off amazon. Wear them with socks and boots.

Bare legs whenever possible. And I'm super pale but I don't care.

Stoneagemum · 12/02/2016 19:32

Hairspray works as a fix for hold ups that start to slip, a little sprayed on your leg where the silicone goes. I keep a mini tin of hairspray in my desk drawer especially for slipping holdup emergencies Wink

FrameyMcFrame · 12/02/2016 19:40

I love tights. Comfy woollen and in the right size...

Gwenhwyfar · 12/02/2016 20:00

"They are too thin to be warm in the winter "

No, they're not. You can get 200 denier tights. How can that be too thin?

Nope. YANBU.

I haven't worn tights since I was at school. I have worn stockings since age 14 and wouldn't wear tights if you paid me.

I hate them too.

Nice to find a fellow stocking wearer. I've also not worn tights for 30 years, I was abbout 17 when I ditched tights.

I wear a suspender belt, and they are comfortable. I probably have one stocking ping loose a year, it's so rare. You can get stockings in various thicknesses, I've got a pair of wool 100 denier ones. I hardly ever wear them because I get hot.

Most of the people I know in RL who have tried suspender belts turn out to have worn them wrong, hence so many people complaining they're not comfortable.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 12/02/2016 20:21

Thanks for that tip, Stoneagemum, they do start to slip when they're washed and worn lots of times, however gently I wash them.

I hate tights too. If I really have to I wear stockings. Tights are wrong.

SenecaFalls · 12/02/2016 21:05

A man, of course, Madam.

My guess is that he is buried in North Carolina.

slkk · 12/02/2016 21:11

I only wear leggings now, never tights. Warmer and cosier.

shortaris1 · 12/02/2016 21:51

Raspberry what are your suspenders belt wearing tips? I tried one the other day but my belly sat under it!

RaspberryOverload · 12/02/2016 22:06

shortaris1

I wear a suspender belt under my knickers. It's surprising how many people don't seem to realise that's how they should be worn. Then you don't have to keep unclipping to go to the loo. Ask your mum or gran, they'll tell you that, too. I think what fools people is that pics showing models wearing belts have them over the knickers, but the sellers are advertising their product and the model needs to wear knickers for modesty, hence wearing them "wrong".

I don't wear belts that sit on your hips, only the skinny ones can really wear those. I'm a size 20, and wear one that sits on my waist. I did try a few, and came to the conclusion that wearing a belt a dress size smaller than my skirt works best for me.

And when I clip the tab to the stocking, I run a fingernail around the flap on the underneath soft plastic tab to make sure it's fully open when I've clipped the top solid bit on it, and that the solid top bit sits fully in the groove of the soft bit. Don't know if you'll get the idea, but can't think how else to describe it right now. Rum and coke may have had a hand in that Grin
