to be annoyed with delivery drivers leaving my packages with neighbours?

I'm sick to death of delivery drivers leaving my parcels with neighbours.
Firstly, I never authorise this when ordering, secondly, it puts my neighbours through unnecessary hassle ( neighbour yesterday almost did his back in bringing me over my ikea order ) & thirdly, maybe I don't want my neighbours knowing what I've ordered from ikea!
I'm really not happy but I don't know how to stop it?

Tell your neighbours to refuse the packages and why didn't you go and pick up your order from your neighbour?!

Can you get parcels delivered to a work address?

Yanbu. I hate it. My neighbours to one side are always taking in parcels then going away for weeks, or simply refusing to answer the door. I've put not to leave parcels with them on the instructions when I buy something but it doesn't always work

The alternative is they take it back to the drop and you collect it from there!! So it's your choice.

And yes it's down to you to collect not the neighbour to deliver

You're lucky they do leave it with your neighbours if you are out! Our local delivery firms will lob it anywhere. We lost a very expensive Christmas gift that way, i'd have been so grateful if it'd been left with a neighbour!

Stop ordering stuff. Pay extra for named delivery times

No, I'm out when they deliver, which is usually the morning school run ( typical ! ) I'm in the rest of the day though.

What can you order from IKEA that you need to keep secret from your neighbours?

Well fair enough if it doesn't work for you but I am flippin glad that most of the delivery services drop at neighbors.
One of the companies don't and we have to drive 20 mins to pick it up.Another firm will have two attempts at dropping off and then return to sender.

My elderly mother has a sign on her door ( inside glass porch) saying that if nobody is in to redeliver and not leave with neighbours , seems to do the job .

Say to your neighbours not to take them in or go and collect them if you are in all day why are neighbours lugging over ikea furniture , get a delivery slot go to the actual shop there is loads you can do maybe stop buying so much stuff that needs delivery im quite impressed you get it so early every time

I live in the same street as a young offenders hostel. It's specifically for under 21's who have been released from youth prison, but are unable to return home. There is an exceptionally high turnover of residents as they only stay until a permanent place comes up.

I have a HUGE note on my door specifying a safe place (shop next door, they have agreed and are open 16 hours per day). Despite this, the driver from one particular company walks further in the opposite direction to leave parcels with this particular house.

Some of the residents have been very polite, but I've had the door slammed in my face and been told to 'F' off on more than one occasion.

I can't understand why he/she does it.

The neighbour is a retired man ( early 60's ) & said he'd carry the parcel over for me as it was very heavy - I called over as soon as I got home because parcel force had left me a note. It was very sweet of him as I really don't think I could have carried it. I could have waited until dh got home I suppose but I just wanted to relieve him of all my packages ( 4 in all ! ) must have taken up his entire hallway.

I think both the drivers and the neighbour think they are being nice and saving you the hassle of a) having to wait longer b) maybe having to go and collect something yourself.

Don't Ikea only deliver on appointed days? You need to make sure you're in or lump it I'm afraid.

Oh it was only the Trofast storage unit but I still don't want my neighbours knowing what I'm ordering.
Plus I feel permanently indebted to my neighbour now as I'm sure he did something to his back.

• you're massively overthinking it
• I doubt your neighbours give a flying fuck what you're ordering. Sorry to be rude, but I doubt you're that interesting unless you're regularly getting deliveries from Ann Summers and DildosAreUs.com
• I also doubt your neighbour wants your firstborn child in exchange for taking in a few parcels. I suspect they would be delighted if you were to do that same for them, if the situation occurs, though. Or maybe a box of chocolates at xmas?
• if it really bugs you, put a note on your door when you leave the house

The delivery company and your neighbours are trying to be helpful. With the best will in the world, just thank your lucky stars you have considerate deliverypeople* and nice neighbours, have a cup of tea, and find something more important to worry about

*Mine often won't take the time to try an alternative delivery address. They claim both me AND my neighbours aren't in, just so they can get to their next job quicker.

The thing is as well, most drivers are paid per delivery. If they don't deliver they don't get paid. If they take it back to the depot then it's added onto their route for the next day, which when they already have 150 parcels/day just makes the next day even busier and so it snowballs. I'm always grateful when a delivery driver (often on 1 min 30 a stop) takes the time to try a neighbour for me if I'm not in.
