AIBU?

To ask how often you wash your dressing gown

I am at the conservative end of the spectrum on washing. Eg Towels are weekly. Wear my gown daily just to and from shower and bedroom, but bit worried - AIBU with lack of dressing gown washing in my house..

How often do you wash yours?

When I realise it needs washing which may or may not be related to the ring of mank around the neck area I noticed last time I chucked it in the washer.

I don't have a dressing gown, but I wash my bathrobe every week or so.

I'm faaaar from being a clean freak, but I hate that thing of getting out the bath squeaky clean then putting on a slightly whiffy gown with bits of hair and dust stuck to it.

I would go so far as to say it gives me the boak.

I rarely wear it so about once or twice s year. I've had it since my ds was born and he's 14 now, I reckon it'll last another 14.

Once every couple of years. Blush

saucyjack's post has confused me. What's the difference between a dressing gown and a bathrobe? I thought they were the same thing.

I have also had my dressing gown for 14 years

Pah! That's nothing! I have four dressing gowns at the moment - a new one that is gorgeously soft and cosy and strokey, a white towelling one that I've had for coming up to 17 years, my old trusty Jasper Conran one and a short one that I 'inherited' from my little sister (7 years my junior) when she grew out of it at age 11 (she's about 6 inches taller than me). She's 31 this year so this tatty old BHS one is still going strong. I expect I'll be passing it on to one of my DDs soon, to continue the legacy! Grin

dressing gowns and bath robes ???? Why ? do you not just get out of bath/shower with towel round you dry and dress? What the is their purpose?

Report
CointreauVersial · 01/02/2016 23:10

The difference?? Bathrobes are usually towelling things worn after a bath/shower.

Dressing gowns are altogether more fancy - the sort of thing you put over your PJs to have breakfast.

But they're interchangeable really!

Mine is probably a bathrobe, and it rarely makes it to the wash. It is older than my children, and is threadbare. But it's my birthday in a couple of weeks, and I'm getting a new one! Can't wait.

Probably about 3 times a year.
I have had it longer than I have had ds, and he's going to be 20 this Summer......

Sanity - I'd freeze to death in this house if I wondered about in a towel.

When it starts smelling really funky or there are too many spills for it to be worn on the doorstep.

Report
Junosmum · 01/02/2016 23:14

I'm a "when it smells/ when I spill something on it" person and I wear it daily. It's got more frequent since I've started breastfeeding as I wear it at night a lot and it gets milk all over it; so currently once or twice a week.

I wash mine every morning, every evening, and I usually set the alarm to get up around 4am and put it through the quick wash cycle as well.

(in real life: never)

I washed mine for the first time a few months ago, after my friend borrowed it when she stayed at my house and it occurred to me just how disgusting it was Blush
I'd had it two years by then

Once every 3 months or so but I get dressed for breakfast so it's usually only on for a few minutes each day

Bathrobes and towelling robes washed weekly here (two of each so one in use while the other's drying ). I'm fussy, obviously. Grin

When the baby pukes on it or i've worn it all day hungover. It smells weird if you wash it.

Right that's it you stinky lot get over in that corner together and I'll hose you all down(whilst your wearing you dressing gowns)with some heavy duty drain cleaner Grin
Will no one think of the poor dressing gowns!

I don't wear mine very often but if I've worn it 2 or 3 times in a week it gets washed.

Mine gets washed about every 7 - 10 days. It's a cotton kimono from The Japanese Shop and I love it. Smile

"What's the difference between a dressing gown and a bathrobe? I thought they were the same thing."

Well, in my case my bathrobe is thick cotton towelling, just below knee length and what I put on after a bath or shower to help dry me. My dressing gown is fluffy chenille, ankle length, and worn over pyjamas to keep me warm.

I wash mine once a fortnight or more if I spill 🍷on it. I just put it in with the towels.

I don't have a dryer so in winter it's washed less often. I'd never get it dry and also it's too cold to take off in the first place.

At least once a week, but I do a lot of lounging around in it.

Mines a house coat, probably every two months. No kids so the occasional tea stain.
