To think you DON'T take the money before you deliver the shopping?

Bloody Tesco. Haven't turned up with my food delivery but checking my bank account, they've taken the payment and in my Tesco account it shows the order as having been completed. Can't phone them because they close at 22.00 on Sunday. No messages, no contact and I have to get dd up early tomorrow to get to shop for stuff for tea tomorrow night. I can't go during the day as on a school trip with dd and can't go straight from school as we have a child coming from school with us, for a play date who has significant additional needs and can't be dragged round the shop buying groceries for an hour of the play date.

It's just really stressed me out tbh, it's the one time I really needed things to go smoothly.

Crikey do you work for tesco customer services Bake? Confused

Flowers Nicki hope tescos get it sorted.

Eminado · 01/02/2016 07:26

I really hope Bake DOESN'T work for Tesco customer services, with her attitude Hmm

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 01/02/2016 07:28

Bake you get some flowers for being perfect Flowers

Nicki, let us know what tesco say when you call to tear them a new one

JohnLuther · 01/02/2016 07:43

Nicki did they deffo not ring you? We've used Tesco for years and for the handful of times the driver has been early or late he's rung to check that it's okay, it's a right pain in the arse and I do sympathise but Tesco's always take the money on the day.

Dee03 · 01/02/2016 15:07

Sorry for late reply.... I booked mine for 1-2pm on a Thursday...it hadn't turned up by 2.40pm so I rang Tesco as was due to go out by 3pm...they said the truck had broken down and would arrive later on. I explained I was due to go out but would be home at 7pm so lady said they would deliver after then.....
Half my shopping got delivered at 7.10pm, everything except all my fridge and freezer food (£60 worth) so I rang Tesco and lady said it would all be delivered by 9pm....
9pm came and went so rung again...lady said it was definately on a van and would be delivered by 11pm...I wasn't very happy but as long as I got my shopping I could handle it.....but you guessed it, 11pm came and went and no delivery!! I was fuming!!
Rung up Tesco first thing and no-one could tell me what had happened and they wanted me to stay in so they could redeliver....I said no bloody way and asked for a refund, which I did get 5 days later!!
The whole point I do online shopping is I work shifts as a carer and find it very convenient as I would rather not spend my hour or so break doing a weekly food shop...
So now I'm using sainsburys Hmm

I cant believe some people giving the OP a hard time, for not getting a service they have actually paid for! Its as if sometimes on MN that no matter what the thread and OPs point there will always be someone determined to try and shoot them down.

Hope you get it sorted.

araiba · 01/02/2016 15:22

for me, if i didnt get my food deliery it wouldnt be a massive issue- takeaway or go to the shops on way home etc

but i understand how its a major problem for op. But if i was in a situation like that, where it is so important and a missed delivery causes so many issues, i wouldnt risk it and i would do my shopping at the supermarket. stuff can go wrong and when it does, it appears to be a huge issue- dont take the chance

yumyumpoppycat · 01/02/2016 17:02

Araiba Op probably has to do online shopping precisely because of her children's SN, and she has already said taking both of them to the store isn't possible and she is a single mum too I think so can't leave them with a partner? Taking children to the supermarket can be a nightmare at the best of times without adding in SN.

HackerFucker22 · 01/02/2016 17:21

Sainsburys did it to me years ago. It was a Saturday evening delivery, had nappies and baby formula as well as that night's dinner I always have a supply but not everyone would

It didn't show by 8pm (was due 6-7pm) so I called and it took until almost 10pm for someone to confirm it wasn't going to arrive until next morning.... and it wasn't going to be fresh. My shopping was going to be on the van overnight!! Cheeky fucker I spoke to told me to 'pop out to a Sainsburys local as there must be one near by' (could see my central London address!!) when I pointed out I was stranded without baby essentials. It was almost 10pm

I was livid, cancelled the shopping and out of principle I never used to £20 voucher they sent me to use against my next online shop.

So yes I sympathise greatly op.

Twitter and tesco face book, quickest way to get a company to respond.

GwenethPaltrowIamnot · 01/02/2016 18:10

How did you get on today Nicki ?

Minisoksmakehardwork · 01/02/2016 18:12

Op I do hope you got sorted. To me, your issue is with the specific store (and the stupid phones closing before delivery slots finish) rather than Tesco overall. I can't fault our Tesco delivery, even when they mess up. They've contacted me before my allocated delivery slot to let me know of a payment problem, the store or driver has rung to say the delivery will be late or will be made the following morning. Heck they substituted infant formula for toddler formula (I had newborn twins going through a very hungry phase and had nearly run out) and made a stupid mistake with nappies once. The correct items were at my door 8am the following morning. I was quite clear that I was not able to take my baby twins out to rectify the problem they had caused.

I've even had them bring bread out when they claimed there was no substitution for the bread I'd ordered - 'hilarious' conversation with a "customer service manager" insisting if they hadn't subbed it, they didn't have it. I mean, bread, she was seriously trying to tell me there wasn't even one loaf of any type of bread in the whole store... A driver on a later delivery brought my bread, the one I'd actually ordered too, and was most apologetic for the inconvenience.

Of course, had the telephone line been closed, I wouldn't have been able to get my problems sorted. So I completely understand your predicament. And even with the best will in the world, it's not possible to keep spare of absolutely everything in, particularly fresh produce.

chickindude · 01/02/2016 18:18

I've been using Tesco online for years.
Place order
Order arrives
I sign when it gets here
Payment taken from account (1-3 days later)

Never any other way for me

LalaLyra · 01/02/2016 18:20

I don't understand the folks giving the OP such a hard time. A lot of people don't have the money to buy extra shopping when the main shop doesn't turn up, but has been paid for. And given the extra issues with her children there are some unsympathetic folks around.

Hope they sorted something out OP and you were able to sort it without too much upset for the kids.

I've never had problems with Tesco, but refused to use Asda after they substituted cat food with dog food. The driver was mortified, but the manager was an idiot. He promised he'd have some sent out because it was such a stupid error, but never did. Had to go to the local shop 8 1/2 months pregnant on crutches, in the snow (the year we had proper snow) with the other kids to get sodding cat food. To add insult to injury it took 3 requests and almost a month for them to refund the money.

Thanks everyone. I was avoiding coming back to this thread because it was giving me a headache! Smile

I called them first thing. They had no clue where my delivery was, couldn't tell me anything except it had been done and gone out for delivery but somehow just disappeared Confused. I think probably delivered to the wrong address and they just accepted it. I had calmed down by the morning to be honest or was too knackered to put up much of a fight and was very pleasant and polite. Also found some rather tired but in date celery in the back of the fridge so dd got her crunch fix and I was there with her to help her cope without the apple. Anyway they re did it and delivered last night and gave me a £10 voucher so that was that.

Glad to hear you got it sorted! Take no notice of the poster giving you a hard time.

SistersOfPercy · 02/02/2016 11:24

everywhere takes the money before delivery it would be strange if they didn't.

Must tell Ocado, who don't take payment until after delivery, that they are 'strange'.

imwithspud · 02/02/2016 12:50

Morrison's don't take delivery until after either...

HermioneJeanGranger · 02/02/2016 13:53

Glad it got sorted out, OP!
