To be sick of people slating Faith schools

Don't get me wrong I understand why some people may be against them but the negativity I've come across recently is, quite frankly ridiculous. I've been told by friends of friends, family etc that they pay for my dd's to attend their catholic primary and secondary schools and that tax payers that are paying towards these schools should not have to do so if their children can't attend these schools. Well let me just say the average amount of income tax each individual pays, that actually goes towards the upkeep of schools is minuscule, so they aren't in fact paying for them. Myself and the other parents of my dd's schools pay a considerable sum each year to the upkeep of the school and the school contributes 10% towards the costs of running their school and repairs etc.

I also come across animosity at the fact my children are getting a good education and people putting that down to them simply being baptised. But my point is if they feel that their own children are missing out by going to a less desirable school then I'm sure they could have them baptised therefor giving them a higher chance of securing a place at a faith school, and whilst I'm not advocating people pretending to be of the faith, I'm simply saying there are options.

As for my dd's schools like I said they are Catholic and are obviously places were parents of the same faith opt to send their children as they want them to be educated within that faith, and I can't see any problem with this to be honest so why am I hearing nothing but negativity from people?

You and the other Christians who are saying it's fine to discriminate are not very christian are you?
Can you imagine replacing the word Christian here with "Jew"or "Muslim"and how terribly phobic it would sound. No one would dare, and yet it seems perfectly fine when it is about Christians. Why is that?

By the way.... it's to "whom".

PosieReturningParker · 01/02/2016 19:04

Not that fucking anonymous is it if someone says things about your life that you haven't shared on a thread?

Itsmine. My Facebook is private and I'm an adult, saying things about a school would be shitty, saying things about religion is my business. Can you really not see the difference?

AlanPacino · 01/02/2016 19:06

There is nothing to stop you (in theory) setting up your own non-faith school.

We'd have to have faith based assemblies though as per the law.

Only a grammar pedant when people are trying to be smartarses.

The admissions procedures of some Jewish schools are utterly outrageous and in some cases illegal. Because they are geared to getting the "right sort of Jewish children" And go against the age old Jewish traditions of fairness and justice.

Our local community school selects based on postcode. - I'm not sure where you live but my understanding is that in England with regards to community/state schools, its the council that rules the geographic location that the furthest away pupil in that year's intake lives and not the school so its not the school that 'discriminates'. Faith schools set their own rules.

I wasn't talks about admission procedures of Jewish schools. I'm talking about how we talk here on this forum. No one would say "You and the other jews or you and the other muslims in the same context as was on here. It's a valid point, it doesn't happen, but it's fine when it's about Christians.

PosieReturningParker · 01/02/2016 19:18

Show me where it said anything about the PTA?

You said "we" and the thanks was to slag us off on social media and you were in the PTA. Now either you're a very sinister individual who wants me to think you know me in real life and lucky guessed I was in the PTA or you have heard the lies and rumours and know me in real life.

You're lying.

PosieReturningParker · 01/02/2016 19:19

If it weren't about religious schools being defended by Christians, some christians not all at all, then you may have a point dawn but it is and so you don't.

But noone is missing the irony that you're complaining about discrimination.

I realise that in big cities were schools are heavily oversubscribed some parents may be offered a faith school if they haven't managed to secure their child a place at any of their choice schools but no one will force you to accept the place and send your child there.

Yes, they will, as I explained earlier. We were told that if we refused the place we were offered at a (failing) faith school the council would not be obliged to offer us another place, even though that school and several others near us were free to prioritise along the lines of 1) Christian Type A 2) Christian Type B 3) Christian other 4) Other religions 5) Looked after children 6) SEN 7) Distance. So because DH and I are atheists they could actively discriminate against my daughter, who had no religious views one way or the other, being only 4.

PosieReturningParker · 01/02/2016 19:22

It's easy to check.

Nothing sinister about pretending to know someone then?

dawnviews · 01/02/2016 19:22

Youvegotta every time there's a thread like this, it's glaringly obvious. But go ahead and try to misinterpret what I've said.

I most certainly would, if they were coming on a thread about school admissions defending their Jewish privilege..............

But there's no irony in that statement is there.
