To be sick of people slating Faith schools

Don't get me wrong I understand why some people may be against them but the negativity I've come across recently is, quite frankly ridiculous. I've been told by friends of friends, family etc that they pay for my dd's to attend their catholic primary and secondary schools and that tax payers that are paying towards these schools should not have to do so if their children can't attend these schools. Well let me just say the average amount of income tax each individual pays, that actually goes towards the upkeep of schools is minuscule, so they aren't in fact paying for them. Myself and the other parents of my dd's schools pay a considerable sum each year to the upkeep of the school and the school contributes 10% towards the costs of running their school and repairs etc.

I also come across animosity at the fact my children are getting a good education and people putting that down to them simply being baptised. But my point is if they feel that their own children are missing out by going to a less desirable school then I'm sure they could have them baptised therefor giving them a higher chance of securing a place at a faith school, and whilst I'm not advocating people pretending to be of the faith, I'm simply saying there are options.

As for my dd's schools like I said they are Catholic and are obviously places were parents of the same faith opt to send their children as they want them to be educated within that faith, and I can't see any problem with this to be honest so why am I hearing nothing but negativity from people?

Are you taking the piss about piano practice or believing in an omnipotent being? Really?

Holy fuck

MrsDiamond4 · 01/02/2016 18:22

Posie it's not fair that religious parents have more schools to choose from.

Did you not send your children to a faith school though?

Holy fuck! did you leave after slagging the school off on social media?

PosieReturningParker · 01/02/2016 18:24

Mine was due to in year admissions only. Start of the year we would have stood no chance.

PosieReturningParker · 01/02/2016 18:26

Loving these Christian women.

Slagging off my school? I know facts are tricky for you, but I posted things about my atheism and thinking folk like Hitchens and Dawkins.

Are you really suggesting what I say in my time in a private forum is any business of the schools? By the way that parent was stripped of her governor role for writing to me as it was inappropriate.

No I'm not.

You say selection based on church attendance is discriminatory. I say selection based on whether you take music lessons is discriminatory too. In fact id say more so, as at least church attendance can be done on a low income, so you're not favouring the already privileged.

Whether you believe in an omnipotent being or not is a side issue. You dont have to believe to attend church and get a faith based school place.

Our local community school selects based on postcode. So selects for the rich (mostly white) middle classes that can afford those postcodes. The catholic school may select on faith, but the children are from many, many backgrounds. Black, white, rich, poor, it is far more diverse. There are lots if immigrant children there, none at the community school.

Most of the children at the catholic primary go on to a catholic secondary, because they dont have the music lessons or extra tutoring to get them into the non-faith school that the community school pupils go on to.

Life isnt fair, and some people will always have advantages.

PosieReturningParker · 01/02/2016 18:30

And there in a nutshell is the point of this thread. Mrs D

Why am I a hypocrite for sending my children to a good school?

The system is unfair, until I encountered this backward notion of faith schools I literally had no idea that they had any impact on a choice of education.

I grew up in an area where we didn't have them.

PosieReturningParker · 01/02/2016 18:31

I guess it's just what Jesus stood for eh Micah?

Floisme · 01/02/2016 18:34

So basically, you agree it's unfair, you just don't give a shit.

Cool.

floisme precisely

PosieReturningParker · 01/02/2016 18:37

You do project here don't you.

Are you a Christian itsme?

BertrandRussell · 01/02/2016 18:37

I don,t have a problem at all with people going to church. What I do have a problem with is going to church giving you a choice of 33% more schools than people who don't.

And I really have a problem with people who are hugely privileged refusing to acknowledge that they are, and telling other people to suck it up.

And I've said praying as an atheist is weird.

Stop misrepresenting. It's dull.

You and the other Christians who are saying it's fine to discriminate are not very christian are you?

Other Christians have been on this thread and agreed it's unfair and wrong.

For all reading this. MrsDiamond4 thinks she knows me, she's probably right. She however is saying utter bullshit.

I NEVER slagged off my children's school on one social media on the basis of religion or faith.

I did post things about religion.

Weirdly though, and I was told by numerous teachers and staff at the school, some parents thought they should repeatedly complain about my views on religion.

Additionally some complained when I changed the name of the christmas fair to incorporate some of the immigrant catholics and bring the parents together.

Now Diamond. You need to either prove what you've just said or retract.

IT WAS A STATE SCHOOL
