Seating in business class on flight today.

Travelling Business class on flight this morning which has seat arrangement of two seats with spare one between turned into a table. Had sat down when a mum arrived with toddler and demanded I remove my papers etc from the table as her child wanted to sit there. I told her it was not a seat which provoked much pouting and comments about she always did this, book a seat with child on lap and then move child into spare seat. I referred this to the crew who agreed with me and told the parent if she had paid for only one seat then child sits on lap for flight. I had comments all the way about the nasty lady who wouldn't let little Johnny have a seat. WIBU to do this.

Crew apologised as I left and gave me some Champagne so not all bad.

Would it have killed you to move some papers? You didn't have to but I would have.

(I had no idea about a spare seat that can be used as a table though).

If you were in standard I'd say yes but she booked a business class seat for the price of two standard seats and then expects someone else who'd done so (presumably for the purpose of working) to give up the comfort they'd paid for. I say that as someone who's only ever flown business class in extreme situations when no other flight has been available so not exactly a 'pampered miss'.

You can't turn the tables back into seats without a special tool. Nothing you or anyone else could have done.

YANBU at all, why should she get a free seat for her child without paying for one?

You don't pay business class to effectively have to sit in economy which would be the result of the table becoming a seat.

Seeing as though business class is generally double the price of economy, why didn't the mother just book two economy tickets and likely save money?

I thought that space in business was no man's land, and more about stopping fighting over whose elbow could go there, rather than a table, but perhaps I've seen a different arrangement.

I think ywb a little u in taking up all the middle space, if that was the case, but mother was totally unreasonable expecting her DD to be able to sit there. You can BUY seats for kids (yes, under twos) on planes. If she wanted her child to have a seat, that's what she should have done (and still had child on knee for take off and landing)

I was flying for business reasons and had reports to read through en route. Of course wouldn't do this in standard (however tempting it would be)

Business lounge at airport was closed as well today so referred to one anyone can pay £15 to use. Mayhem with people filling their boots and nicking food and drink. Thankfully the 'library' was a small area for over 12s only. Got much of my work done there.

So she puts her child on a table for an entire flight?

In that case op I am inclined to say Yanbu.

She was taking the mick. Booking a club seat with the specific intention of putting child in 'spare seat' next to her. It isn't a seat..

Sorry but if she wants two seats she should buy them.

The snippy comments would have driven me potty. I'd have thrown some business class snacks at her for that. Okay I wouldn't, I'd definitely have thrown her an icy glare though.

YANBU. It's not a 'spare' seat, that is the configuration in business class and that's what people pay for, to have the space to work and not be jostling elbows with people.

She was being cheeky.

I had a neat pile of papers and a cheeky glass of champagne, took up half the space.

Child was a screamer too!
