If she can remember where and when she bought the ticket and the man serving her can remember her.

These tickets should be in some kind of readable state after a wash.

Just realised I was answering on one site about chic brownies and found myself on this site. Sorry!

HappydaysArehere · 26/01/2016 10:14

This is getting worse. It's choc not chic. It's that blooming spell checker!

Birdsgottafly · 26/01/2016 10:31

She's been elevated from 'Single Mum', to Grandmother of four, in recent press coverage. She wasn't a SM, her youngest is 19, if she was male she'd be classified by her job (probably former Nurse, or Pub Landord), which she was.

Love how the ex has immediately said that he could claim half, because they're not divorced.

As for 'looking' in her 50's, she's 48 and she's got really good skin.

I hope if she hasn't made this up, this doesn't make life unbearable for her.

Gunting · 26/01/2016 10:47

The local news is reporting today that she's been in court several times for fraud and unpaid fines of thousands....

JohnLuther · 26/01/2016 10:49

If that's true then she's an idiot for even thinking it'd be a good idea.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 26/01/2016 10:51

This Morning have just washed a ticket in a pair of jeans and proved that it just literally fell to pieces.

She's definitely trying it on.

Birdsgottafly · 26/01/2016 10:58

She was fined, because she refused to identify who was driving a van that was in a 'at fault' accident, couldn't pay the fine, was going through a divorce and so, as procedure was taken back to court.

She was working so had to persuade the courts that she couldn't afford to pay.

I'm off sick and was reading it out of interest of how the different papers have reported this.

The DM and it's ilk are on the attack, she a divorced Mother after all.

CalmYoBadSelf · 26/01/2016 11:07

Regardless of what type of person she is or her marital status, it comes down to whether she bought the ticket or not. I think I read that the shopkeeper didn't remember her so Camelot are checking CCTV

There was a couple recently who put regularly used numbers online but it didn't go through properly, the numbers won but they didn't get the payout.
No-one should get a big payout unless they are proved, beyond doubt, to be entitled to it

Katenka · 26/01/2016 11:18

Is so strange that she is claiming it might or might not be the ticket.

She doesn't know if it was that draw or a different one???

Really?

Sounds like she is covering herself so that she can't get done for fraud.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 26/01/2016 11:38

Just read. She'll have to wait until July to see if Camelot will issue payment

ratspeaker · 26/01/2016 11:58

She's not the only one to be claiming to have bought the winning ticket. Theres hundreds of people with similar stories.

Andrewofgg · 26/01/2016 17:02

Camelot are issuing warnings about legal action against fraudsters. In the end she will have to say whether she does or does not claim that this ticket is the winner and if she says Yes and knows it is not she may well be headed down the stairs in the dock.

firesidechat · 26/01/2016 17:17

I think she will back down though. It appears that she already is.

DanyellasDonkey · 26/01/2016 17:25

Funny how she just contacted Camelot when it was announced that the ticket was bought in Worcester. Also the fact that the bit that just happens to be missing is the part that the date etc is on.

Maybe it is genuinely hers, but sounds a bit dodgy to me.

Andrewofgg · 26/01/2016 17:27

Maybe it is genuinely hers

Yes, and maybe that's a pig flying past my window.

ChampaleSocialist · 27/01/2016 00:24

I'm pretty sure it says on the ticket that if it is defaced it is invalid...

Reported the above spam post.

DM have a photo of what it claims is the ticket ! I am sure Camelot can validate it, if that in fact is the ticket she has submitted, the last two letters of the reference are legible.

A single line winning ticket must be pretty unique, the shop owner has CCTV, they will know if it was his shop, what day, what time, even though the ticket is damaged, they will be able to identify if it is the winning one or not.

If it is taking Camelot this long to dismiss it as a fake claim though, then there must be a strong possibility it is genuine. If it is a fake claim, I would imagine they would have shut it down immediately, unless they are getting their legal ducks in a row to sue her.

DM reporting she has previously attempted to claim on a scratch card which she said had fallen in a puddle.

nooka · 27/01/2016 04:22

I've not followed this case as I'm not in the UK, but I used to work for a lottery, and they had a few cases like this (not quite such big wins though). Technically they could refuse to pay out if the ticket was lost of defaced, but in practice with a lot of forensics it was almost always possible to prove whether a claimant was genuine or not.

Lotteries like big winners, they encourage people to buy more tickets, so when someone hasn't claimed for a big one they quite often try and get them to come forward. Usually means a whole bunch of hopers come out of the woodwork though. One time I thin the investigators had 50 potential winners to investigate. So long as there are any claims open they will hold onto the money though (goes into a special account).

I very very rarely buy lottery tickets (twice I think) as the odds are terrible, but I did on one big rollover and then left it in my shopping bag and never checked it. I guess if I found the ticket later in the bag (my shopping bags go into a big bag to be used later) I might check it and discover I had a win to claim. I don't think that part of the story is too unusual, people often claim months later.

nooka · 27/01/2016 04:24

The issue with CCTV is how long it's stored for, often it's just a couple of weeks (stores are only really interested in things like shop lifting, usually discovered fairly quickly)

Tram10 · 27/01/2016 05:01

The newsagent where she claims to have bought the ticket, says he still has the CCTV, but Camelot have not requested it yet !

Maybe they have been easily able to discount it as a false claim, so haven't bothered requesting it.

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 27/01/2016 06:56

Apparantly she's tried to claim before for a scratch card which had fallen in a puddle and was badly damaged. She is most unlucky.

Ive just seen a photo,of the damaged ticket and it looks purposefully damaged. Tiny hole where the barcode should be, etc. Why would it have a hole in if it was in a pocket in the washing machine? I hope she gets prosecuted for attempted fraud.

Katenka · 27/01/2016 07:12

Two days ago Camelot were saying still still hadn't applied in writing as it says on its website. Or provides the information they ask for.

Her dd was sayin they put the ticket in an envelope and sent it to Camelot. Would you pop a winning lottery ticket in the post?

Camelot may not be requested the cctv as she may still not have followed the right procedure and applied to them and provided the information they need.

It seems she is backtracking. The fact that she also, dropped a winning scratch card in a puddle and couldn't claim is very odd. She has already tried to claim money with a damaged ticket.

I have had the odd scratch card. They have a plastic type paper. A moment in a puddle wouldn't ruin it.

Viviennemary · 27/01/2016 10:37

SorrY I think she's a scammer. And I don't think she'll get the money. I read how it's done. You go and buy a ticket for a later draw put the winning numbers on it. Then rub or wash out the date and then claim the money. What an easy way to make £33 million.

Madbengalmum · 27/01/2016 10:39

Shes already tried to claim from camelot for a scratchcard win that was fraudulent. Mmmm, looking very iffy this one!
