I'm probably being a horrible judgemental person. But I've yet to see a neck tattoo that doesn't look hideous.

Are there any out there?

Probably against the rules to attach a public photo from a dating site but seen quite a few baddies

I think the issue is less about how good or bad you think they look, and more about whether its any of your fucking business.

HTH

Doublebubblebubble · 21/01/2016 13:06

Ruby rose is in oitnb

I have tattoos. I like love tattoos. I've seen good naice neck tattoos and bad horrific neck tattoos. I couldn't have one myself because well, I don't want one but I think it's a case of whatever floats your boat really x

Oysterbabe · 21/01/2016 13:06

Ruby Rose.
I guess it's at least partially because she's stunning, I just love her whole look.

BreakingDad77 · 21/01/2016 13:07

Its weird though as I would expect them to be in a band/artist or something creative.

spankhurst · 21/01/2016 13:11

There's something a bit 'convict on parole' about neck tats. Personally I think a beautiful neck would be marred by any tattoo, no matter how artistically done. But live and let live.

thelifeofamber · 21/01/2016 13:14

I used to love a model called Lauren Capulet.

She is absolutely stunning ... and then she got a neck tattoo.

She already had quite a few tattoos before but that was overkill.

Have a look on google images.

SirChenjin · 21/01/2016 13:17

Just an aside....did anyone see the older bloke on Ta-oo Fixers this week with the lizard ta-oo?

What on earth makes anyone think in their right mind think - 'ooh, that's art that is, a ta-oo of a lizard performing cunnilingus on a woman is beautiful and just the thing to have imprinted permanently across my back'?? Confused

AddToBasket · 21/01/2016 13:18

Branleuse, it is the OP's business.

She started the thread wondering whether people thought neck tattoos were nice. The same as wondering whether, well, people thought X school/house/coat/TV show was nice. Just like pretty much most of the other threads on here.

AppleSetsSail · 21/01/2016 13:18

She's very Angelia Jolie-esque. I think she will be very, very sad to have all her tattoos when she is old.

BishopBrennansArse · 21/01/2016 13:19

Oh that 'when you get old' crap

Becks4Saints · 21/01/2016 13:19

I have Peter Pan, Wendy etc coming down my neck from behind my ear and a Mary Poppins the other side. I have had people stop me and ask where I've had it done as they love it.

It's my choice, I love them and don't care what others think.

BishopBrennansArse · 21/01/2016 13:20

Voila

to think no one has ever said "oh thats a nice neck tattoo"

Thats just plain rude! So no-one is allowed on an opinion on certain subjects.

If everyone stopped commenting on or starting threads about something that could be seen as "none of their business" what on earth would half of the threads here be about?!!

Vixxfacee · 21/01/2016 13:21

Mine looks good. My best friends look good. But ours are on the back of our neck.

5Foot5 · 21/01/2016 13:21

"I am a tattoo expert as I watch Tattoo Fixers"

SerChenJin If that is what it takes then yes I am an expert too! We watch that programme with a face like this Shock when we can't find anything else and there is no QI on anywhere

helenahandbag · 21/01/2016 13:24

I have many large, colourful traditional tattoos (including a full chest piece, both legs almost covered and several other pieces on my arms/back/ribs) with plans for more when I have the money but I'm not a fan of neck tattoos. 99% of the time it makes the person look grubby, like they need a good wash.

The only neck tattoo I don't mind is Oli Sykes' rose.

VagueIdeas · 21/01/2016 13:27

I love Tattoo Fixers, it makes me LOL every week.

As for neck tattoos, they're so difficult to hide some tattooists will only do them on people who have a lot of ink already. That's quite ethical I think. I saw an article a while ago with someone pissing and moaning about being turned away after asking for a neck tattoo - I'll see if I can find it.

SirChenjin · 21/01/2016 13:27

5Foot - that's exactly it Grin. It's car crash telly - people come in with awful tatts they got in Magaluf, one of the laconic hipsters draws a picture of something, they get that ta-ooed on them, they leave with an awful tatt after much 'fuckin yeah dudes' looking like someone has been at them with a Sharpie.

I don't think I will ever 'get' tattoos.

DinosaursRoar · 21/01/2016 13:30

I don't like them and have yet to see one where I think the person looks better for the neck tatoo than without, although I've seen several tatoos in other places where the tatoo has improved the overall look/style of the person.

Longer term, it's also drawing attention to a part of the body that will show signs of aging early - do tattoo artists factor how this will look once the neck area starts sagging?

VagueIdeas · 21/01/2016 13:33

Here it is:
millihelen.jezebel.com/dont-tell-me-i-cant-get-a-fucking-neck-tattoo-1707496653

Woman is so incensed when a tattooist refuses to tattoo her neck she insults him in an article and posts screengrabs from his Instagram, criticising his work. Petulant doesn't even cover it.

AnotherTimeMaybe · 21/01/2016 13:35

I like the ones at the back of the neck, the ones at the front not sure, probably depends on the tatoo

What I find big shame is the chap from Celebrity Big brother, Jeremy which has an absolutely awful tatoo on his neck ! The guy is gorgeous and that just is not fair on him. This is an example of how you can really screw up a tatoo
Where Aaron from Geordie shore has same style on his neck but more flattering

ComposHatComesBack · 21/01/2016 13:36

That said Lou Hooper who used to be on Tattoo fixers has great neck tattoos. But she's obviously planned and designed as part of an overall piece of art and they've been executed brilliantly. Not for me as I say, but they suit her and I can appreciate the skill that's gone into them.

Shit neck tattoos or a generic design picked out of a catalogue at a backstreet tattoo parlour will look crap. I guess it is like anything else, the originals shine out, because everything else is boring or crap.

wheelofapps · 21/01/2016 13:40

I have never been a fan of tattoos but am now thinking of getting a white / pale tattoo to cover surgical scarring.

I am addicted to Tattoo Fixers Grin

Thecatisatwat · 21/01/2016 13:49

SirChen, agreed, me and dh get neckache from shaking our heads so much watching that programme. Why do people think swapping a shite but small and hideable tattoo for an obvious enormous one is an improvement? I think the tattooists are good artists just wish they'd put their art on a canvas rather than human skin. Much prefer Bodyshockers (apart from those weird stretched ear cases or face holes which make me feel slightly sick).

I don't 'get' tattoos either. I wouldn't want to wear the same 'Frankie says Relax' t-shirt that I owned in the 80s every day so why would I necessarily want to live with the same tat for 60+ years? (Low boredom threshold)

SirChenjin · 21/01/2016 13:50

One of my colleagues has a half sleeve - currently getting the full sleeve done. It's costing him and arm (geddit?!) and a leg, but I have to admit the artwork is amazing. He went to some museum in Norway somewhere, spoke in depth to the curator, researched the topic and the artwork is taken from a design there. It's a kind of dark brown ink, not that horrible (imo) Sharpie multi coloured thing that everyone seems to have, and it's obviously a reflection on both the tatt artist's skill and his interest and knowledge in a specific topic. The average tatt doesn't look anything like that though.
