Me and my friend went to pizza express amd i got dough balls, i said she can have one and she dipped it in the butter then bite, then dipped it again.
In general i will find this disgusting but to top it all off she is ill
So i said to her why would you dip your eaten dough ball in the butter when you know you are ill and she said im being rude but how? Isnt this common sense?

I can't say this would bother me in the slightest. I doubt I'd even notice to be honest.

Pizza Express dough balls are delicious though.

Sallystyle · 20/01/2016 22:32

It's not really about the germs. I couldn't be a germaphobe and do my job, I'm arms deep in germy disgusting things often.

But bits of food that have been in people's mouths possibly going into the dip? That makes me feel a bit ill and not because I'm afraid of germs.

GigiB · 20/01/2016 22:33

Inconsiderate ill people make me sick Grin

Cooroo · 20/01/2016 22:47

I'm another in the 'wouldn't bother me' camp. I have a couple of work colleagues with very dodgy personal/oral hygiene, and I guess I'd avoid sharing with them, but otherwise really not a problem.

LuluJakey1 · 20/01/2016 22:48

Well those dough balls will have been touched by grubby hands I bet and sneezed and coughed on in the making.

kissmethere · 20/01/2016 22:49

It would be a problem for me if it were strangers I'm afraid. Otherwise me and a mate it's no problem. Only so far you can go making a small thing in to an issue.

milkmilklemonade12 · 20/01/2016 22:51

I don't tend to be friends with people whose habits are disgusting so it wouldn't bother me. I think your reaction was a bit much.

rosewithoutthorns · 20/01/2016 22:56

It doesn't bother me in the slightest. Then again I don't think Im precious.

Gwenhwyfar · 20/01/2016 23:08

I agree that double dipping is wrong, but then people do equally unhygienic things. If you share food, you're putting something in your mouth and then putting your fingers back on the plate to tear yourself another piece and the finger that's just been on your mouth is now touching other people's food. People share drinks and cigarettes sometimes.

rosewithoutthorns · 20/01/2016 23:22

Just stick some surgical gloves on your hands and have your own dip Grin We have so many problems due to being germ-a-phobic its laughable. You are more inclined to get sick due to touching a door knob.

Elendon · 20/01/2016 23:25

This has me reaching for the Gaviscon/Milk of Magnesia/other gut soothing remedies.

It's fecking rude and disgusting. Sometimes other peoples eating habits come into sharp focus and your world gets turned around and upside down, along with your stomach!

But, I would sit quietly and seethe inwardly and smile sweetly whilst nibbling on a dry dough ball (or go and ask for a freebie sachet of a different flavour).

Bettercallsaul1 · 20/01/2016 23:29

I just take a large bottle of antiseptic gargle with me when dining with double dipping friends. Bit noisy for other diners but kills the germs a treat.

Flingingmelon · 20/01/2016 23:36

Blimey, when I go out for dinner I usually greet the person I'm there with a kiss. Not much point getting over heated about double dipping when the cooties have probably already climbed out of mouths, onto cheeks and spread everywhere...Wink

rosewithoutthorns · 20/01/2016 23:41

Exactly Fling. Job has been done. Germaphobia I call it. We NEED germs to fight them.

DecaffCoffeeAndRollupsPlease · 21/01/2016 00:03

I wouldn't mind if it were a friend but would be put off if I noticed a visibly unhygienic stranger doing this, at a buffet for example.

WilLiAmHerschel · 21/01/2016 01:24

I once did this and had to leave the country. I have changed my identity and live under heavy disguise, but never really feel safe from detection.

That is a very funny post.

I've neverver been keen on the dough balls anyway but this thread has well and truly put me off them. I don't give a damn if someone 'double dips', but the thought of a bowl of melted butter is making me feel quite sick!

dustarr73 · 21/01/2016 07:39

Its not about germs,as U2 pointed out.Its about what other people have been putting in their mouth before hand.

Plus the enzymes in your spit do break down food,so somebody elses spit is working its way in to my mouth. That wont be happening unless they are invited by me.

DamnCommandments · 21/01/2016 07:52

My FIL licks the whisky bottle between pours. MY FIL LICKS THE WHISKY BOTTLE!!!

Returning to the dough balls... I can't get worked up about it. But I still can't get over the fact that FIL licks the whisky bottle. Inconsistent?

PerspicaciaTick · 21/01/2016 08:05

Is double dipping with your DP OK? If not, do you kiss them? Are there times when saliva sharing is OK and other times when it is more unhygienic?

dustarr73 · 21/01/2016 08:19

As i said earlier dp and kids are fine anyone else no.Same with drinking out of bottles.I just cant share salivia wiht anyone other than dp and kids.

Sparklingbrook · 21/01/2016 08:22

I agree dustarr. Although I have teens so I'd have to be quick to get anything of theirs. Grin

I hate drinking out of a water bottle that anyone has had their mouth round before me DH and DC included though. I try and squirt it in without it touching my lips. Don't want anyone's backwash ta.

Maybe you should treat yourself to a spa day.

Sparklingbrook · 21/01/2016 09:03

Yes lack sit in the communal hot tub while sharing food and drink? Grin

Stratter5 · 21/01/2016 10:27

What kind of ill though? Sniffle, flu, noro, ebola?
