To think this is disgusting and rude of my friend

Me and my friend went to pizza express amd i got dough balls, i said she can have one and she dipped it in the butter then bite, then dipped it again.
In general i will find this disgusting but to top it all off she is ill
So i said to her why would you dip your eaten dough ball in the butter when you know you are ill and she said im being rude but how? Isnt this common sense?

Aibu?

I wouldn't notice if someone did this and probably do it myself unconsciously. Does the rule also apply to tortilla chips?

AnnieOnAMapleLeaf · 20/01/2016 18:29

Meh. Hmm

Double dipping is not good etiquette but your post is way over the top. So much drama for a silly reason. I am so sick of the drama.

WillBeatJanuaryBlues · 20/01/2016 18:30

disguestig yes

but many people do these things without thinking, of the implications or issues with it.

I have never ever been a drink sharer - I think its digsuting but I don't think people that do it are rude.

PotteringAlong · 20/01/2016 18:31

I'd always dip my dough balls again!

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 20/01/2016 18:33

bananalanacake more germs are spread with your 'double dipping' method Grin

RudeElf · 20/01/2016 18:34

My dad tells me never to eat bar nuts.
He said men go to the loo, not hands washed and then rifle through the nuts bowl.

You hadnt already worked that out? Grin (not just men btw)

Finola1step · 20/01/2016 18:34

Yes, I thought double dipping was something quite different to dough balls Grin.

Damselindestress · 20/01/2016 18:34

The problem with double dipping is that germs from someone's mouth on the half eaten food transfer to the dip that is shared with other people. I'm pretty laidback normally, definitely not a germaphobe, but I still think double dipping is gross. She probably just didn't think though.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 20/01/2016 18:35

I was expecting something dramatic, not someone double dipping a doughball...

HeartShapedBox · 20/01/2016 18:36

While I doubt it was done deliberately, it is indeed minging and would have made me unable to eat the butter.

Yanbu, or rude.

SevenOfNineTrue · 20/01/2016 18:36

That's bad, you don't double dip.

BeaufortBelle · 20/01/2016 18:37

Embarassing her is as rude as the initial double dip which is probably quite harmless anyway. Thinks of communion cup - ah no, it's OK, the silver deals with the germys.

I think next time I had dinner with her and ordered dough balls I might ask for the dip to go into two separate balls and say something like "so we can double dip because you can't do that if you are sharing dips" ........................... if of course you are still alive by then Grin

Katenka · 20/01/2016 18:37

Double dipping is rank!

Thank you, steff13 that makes more sense, haven't seen it in years.

SeaCabbage · 20/01/2016 18:42

YANBU. With you all the way. And I applaud you for telling her.

Rpj16 · 20/01/2016 18:46

YABU sharing your doughballs. Theres only 8 in a serving. Tell her to get her own next time!!

pictish · 20/01/2016 18:48

I'm so disappointed. With the title containing rude and disgusting I thought it was going to be something quite juicy.
Alas it's a meep about nothing.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 20/01/2016 18:49

Oh God my teenage kids (whose rooms are nasty unhygienic pits of filth) are paranoid about double dipping. Having wiped their bums and cleaned up their sick and washed their nasty clothes, I don't really have a problem with it.

Gileswithachainsaw · 20/01/2016 18:51

Why would you agree to go out fir dinner with someone you couldn't even bare to touch your food.

what a lot of drama over nothing. least she's your friend. you'd have kittens if you saw what happens to.the food befire it got to your plate.

lilone1234 · 20/01/2016 18:52

The hysteria over double dipping is ridiculous. There are germs everywhere. Get a life.

Youarentkiddingme · 20/01/2016 18:53

Wow, Ive got to the grand ole age of 35 and just learnt about double dipping and the rudeness and vileness that it is. Shock

Or more likely I've been lucky enough to spend my 35years around people who don't assume they will catch the plague at every opportunity and who are as likely not to even note or think twice about 'double dipping'.

I truely honestly never knew this was a 'thing'.

YABU.

LadyLuck81 · 20/01/2016 18:54

Wouldn't bother Me in the slightest. It wouldn't cross my mind to be concerned

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 20/01/2016 18:55

I think people who are squeamish about double dipping should make it clear when they offer to share something that requires dipping.

The peanuts-on-the-bar unsavouriness has been scientifically confirmed; buy your own pack of nuts.

Do not risk your life by buying self-serve, ready made salads from supermarkets.

Lethal.

Sparklingbrook · 20/01/2016 18:55

Why did you go out for a meal if she was ill? Confused
