Cleaner keeps going in the condom pot!

FarterChristmoose · 20/01/2016 09:18

We have had a cleaner for 3 weeks, never had one before. When she comes I keep out of her way. She does upstairs on a Tuesday and downstairs on a Friday. I stay downstairs when shes upstairs and upstairs when shes downstairs.

My husband and I keep our condoms in a trinket pot at the back of the drawer in his bedside table.

Last Tuesday I went in the drawer for something and noticed the lid was off. Its not possible for the lid to be just knocked off.

Yesterday I checked the drawer after cleaner had gone and whist the lid was on, the condoms had been messed with, they weren't in a pile. I'd left them in a pile on purpose to see if they were messed with. None had been taken out.

I am pregnant so we're not using them! DH has been away since last Wednesday and is home today so I know it,s not him. The only explanation is the cleaner.

But why???

Could she have knocked over the whole pot by accident when cleaning. As she probably lift stuff up to dust under. She then probably got in a bit of a faff putting it back. If she had been purposely opening the pot then surely she would have left them neatly and how she found them. If she knocked them off she wouldn't have know how neat they were before. She probably wouldn't want to mention knocking your condom pot off the side!!

Sweetdreamsforall · 20/01/2016 10:09

Just confront her about it. Record the conversation and post it here.

Why did you physically look inside the condom pot after she left if the lid was on? You sound like you don't trust her from the start and you've gone to check everything in your bedroom as you are suspicious she may have gone snooping. Maybe tell her to clean everywhere except the bedroom next time.

If I were home I'd just clean myself tbh, as I am a pretty private person with a large collection of sexual paraphernalia

MuttonDressedAsMutton · 20/01/2016 10:10

For Christs sake. If you feel the need to bait your cleaner then it's probably a sign you shouldn't have one

Absolutely this! Such unnecessary drama ffs.

MerryMarigold · 20/01/2016 10:13

I very much doubt she would look in the condom pot twice. She knows it's a condom pot now, not a cash pot. I think she just bashes around a bit, or possibly moves the whole bedside table to hoover behind it.

Be grateful you have a thorough cleaner!

(And don't entertain these thoughts. Dh was like this and poor cleaner was accused of all sorts -not to her face, luckily- including a stolen passport, which of course turned up where it shouldn't have been.)

Thisismyfirsttime · 20/01/2016 10:20

So you think she's been opening your condom pot, messing with them and putting them back? Why would she do that? What reason would she have for doing it?
You'd probably be doing you both a favour if you got rid of her.

MrsEricBana · 20/01/2016 10:21

But seriously why would she? Perhaps she is better than my cleaner who would not dream of ever cleaning behind a bedside cabinet (or anything else).
(as an aside I once knocked a pile of financial papers and an accounts book off a mantlepiece when I was feeding neighbours' cat and it SO looked like I'd been snooping as I obviously didn't know the order they'd been in to replace them properly. Of course I told her and was mortified but it looked very suspicious and wasn't.)

DanglyEarOrnaments · 20/01/2016 10:22

I do not think she had any business going into your drawers and we do not allow our cleaning staff to go into clients drawers, it is a breach of privacy and oversteps the mark where trust not to pry is concerned.

Unlike the other thread where, misguided as she was, the cleaner did the wrong washing, you could grasp her good intentions however this cleaner has no business looking inside bedroom drawers.

Sparklingbrook · 20/01/2016 10:25

So you think she's been opening your condom pot, messing with them and putting them back? Why would she do that?

Exactly. Put your condoms somewhere else perhaps?

Birdsgottafly · 20/01/2016 10:28

""however this cleaner has no business looking inside bedroom drawers.""

But she mighten be, the pot could be getting knocked because she's rigorously dusting/hoovering.

timemaychangeme · 20/01/2016 10:30

Is there any way that if she was a bit of an enthusiastic hooverer (and bashed hoover into bedside table) that it was dislodge the pot?

If not, and she'd definitely going through drawers I'd have to call it a day.
I've done cleaning work. Have also done house-sitting for close friends and the only drawers I would ever open are the kitchen ones with plates/cutlery etc in to prepare my meals. No other drawers ever unless asked to do so for some reason. What people put in drawers/cupboards etc is private and not for others to open.

DanglyEarOrnaments · 20/01/2016 10:31

Ah yes maybe Birds I never thought about that.

LaContessaDiPlump · 20/01/2016 10:35

Sellotape the pot shut. That will stop it being opened, whether she opens it deliberately or accidentally knocks it off the shelf. Job done.

leghoul · 20/01/2016 10:38

if you've got time to worry about and monitor this, you don't need a cleaner

CadburysTastesVileNow · 20/01/2016 10:41

Sticking pins in them?

Mouseinahole · 20/01/2016 10:43

I think she is moving the table to clean behind it.

puckingfixies · 20/01/2016 10:44

That occurred to me Cadburys but op is already pregnant.

CadburysTastesVileNow · 20/01/2016 10:45

Future-proofing her job, Pucking

Sparklingbrook · 20/01/2016 10:48

Why do condoms need their own pot? They come in neat boxes.

LizzieMacQueen · 20/01/2016 11:03

I doubt very much that she is snooping given that you are in the house the entire time she is there.

Did you say anything to your DH? Maybe he was re-stocking (in which case you have bigger issues to deal with) and that was why the lid was off.

Enthusiastic hoovering would explain the messed up neat piles you left as a trap yesterday.

stumblymonkey · 20/01/2016 11:07

I used to have cleaners and accept that human nature means that a proportion of them will be nosey and may look in drawers....I took the view that it didn't matter. Yes, I have condoms and vibrators, etc but I don't really care if a cleaner is nosey enough to look...it's not like I'm storing anything truly odd.

whois · 20/01/2016 11:10

For Christs sake. If you feel the need to bait your cleaner then it's probably a sign you shouldn't have one

+1

Stop thinking the worst. Way more likely she knocked the table when hoovering or moved it to clean behind.

Custard314 · 20/01/2016 11:13

I agree with the not caring so much advice. So your cleaner found your condoms. Well holy God. So be it.

I've never cleaned anybody else's house but I imagine if I were cleaning somebody else's house I might look inside a pot. I might just glance at the pot and lift the lid off before I'd analysed that move in any great detail.

BolshierAryaStark · 20/01/2016 11:14

What is it with the odd cleaner threads at the moment? Hmm

Custard314 · 20/01/2016 11:20

I know!

Have a cleaner. Don't have a cleaner. But don't get a cleaner and then introduce a caste system in to your little domain. It's a bit NAWSHUS

GoringBit · 20/01/2016 11:28

For Christs sake. If you feel the need to bait your cleaner then it's probably a sign you shouldn't have one.

This. If there's no trust, it's never going to work.
