That consultant said this word...

Ozwizard · 16/01/2016 10:57

I went to the hospital to see my results from my consultant. Result of this is that I will have to have surgery that has a six to eight week recovery time. As he was explaining my condition he said that it is very common in " Negroid ladies"!!
The nurse in the room looked at me and shifted uncomfortably in her seat! And I took a second to register if he really did say that. Then I did a nervous laugh and said to him " you must not use that word" he said "what, that is what you are" " what is wrong with Negroid"? I said " stop, use another word". He said " oh I didn't know that Negroid would offend you"
Aibu that he should not have said that word?

Then make a complaint OP
And yes, you DID mention 'offended' up thread. You said you were not offended the first time he used it......

And third time of asking you..... why did you post in AIBU when clearly you don't think you are and yes, you have drip fed throughout.

Okay Redbinneo you've been caught out being consistently racist and goady.

Is that better?

Now do us all a favour and fuck the fuck off and then fuck off some more.

I seriously hope you don't have any kids.

FlatOnTheHill · 16/01/2016 21:09

So the word uppity is offensive now. Pathetic!
Ive just fucking farted, is that offensive Grin
Winecheers everyone

user7755 · 16/01/2016 21:10

I use uppity in real life Blush

I just mean that someone is getting indignant.

That said, there are clearly some trollish Britain First types on here.

Pain1 · 16/01/2016 21:10

Omg this thread is hideous

squoosh · 16/01/2016 21:10

It really is Pain.

Sparklycat · 16/01/2016 21:10

Surely saying 'black woman' would have been more offensive?

fastdaytears · 16/01/2016 21:13

Sparkly why would that be offensive?

fastdaytears · 16/01/2016 21:13

why did you post in AIBU when clearly you don't think you are

Well that covers literally everyone who posts in AIBU

maggiethemagpie · 16/01/2016 21:14

Can't' see racism in using the word Negroid. Did he infer that you were an inferior being because you are Negroid? No? Then it wasn't racist. Get over it.

FlatOnTheHill · 16/01/2016 21:14

Racist Hmm hardly. Im English and as I said before half my family are Turks who live most if the year in UK. They even find it all ridiculous.

Sparklycat · 16/01/2016 21:15

I was always brought up to believe that the term 'black' was offensive and mustn't be used?

fastdaytears · 16/01/2016 21:16

That's really not true Sparkly. Honestly you can say it (unless the context is offensive obviously, don't go with "you know who I hate? Blacks")

Honestly you're fine. Interesting though, when/where were you brought up?

Supermanspants · 16/01/2016 21:16

fast Yes.... and???? What is your point?

"Polly the patient has every right to request that specific words, terminology and /or forms of address are not used."

Not if the terminology used is the correct one. The case here is a bit of a grey area, but if a patient had liver cancer, for example, it would not be reasonable for the patient to request that the words liver or hepatic not be used.

IfItsGoodEnough4ShirleyBassey · 16/01/2016 21:18

Well for future reference user7755, if you're white you really really shouldn't ever use it about black people especially not if the subject under discussion is whether they're overreacting to perceived racism. It has unfortunate connotations and runs the risk of making people think you're a goady racist twat.

In other contexts it's fine.

FlatOnTheHill · 16/01/2016 21:18

User7755
I use uppity in real life too.....ie
"oi, whats the matter with you, you uppity cow"
Grin
Myself and my colleague at work say it. No big deal. Better than cunt. Grin

fastdaytears · 16/01/2016 21:19

That you're picking up the OP for something that happens a gazillion times a day. Who posts on AIBU with an open mind about whether or not they're unreasonable?

EmmanuelleMumsnet · 16/01/2016 21:19

Thanks for all your reports about this thread.

We are taking a look through them all now, and are going to suspend posting on the thread while we do.

OP posts:
Supermanspants · 16/01/2016 21:22

fast
Quite a few IMO

FlatOnTheHill · 16/01/2016 21:24

MrsDevere
I can honestly say i have never heard of uppity being racist against black people.
I just thought it was a term of self importance and arrogance as said in the dictionary.
Why is it offensive to black people?

FlatOnTheHill · 16/01/2016 21:34

OP
So if the word never offended you. What did?
Because you said you told him 3 times to stop using THE WORD

Did you not like that word?

Because up thread you said it was NOT the word you found offensive but the fact he continued after 3 times of being told not too.

Whats the problem? He said a word your were NOT offended about, according to you, three times!

You must get fucking offended easily if its because basically you are saying you are not happy because he never did as he was told.

You keep contradicting yourself.

To clarify, you say its not the word?
So why ask him to stop saying it?
