That consultant said this word...

Ozwizard · 16/01/2016 10:57

I went to the hospital to see my results from my consultant. Result of this is that I will have to have surgery that has a six to eight week recovery time. As he was explaining my condition he said that it is very common in " Negroid ladies"!!
The nurse in the room looked at me and shifted uncomfortably in her seat! And I took a second to register if he really did say that. Then I did a nervous laugh and said to him " you must not use that word" he said "what, that is what you are" " what is wrong with Negroid"? I said " stop, use another word". He said " oh I didn't know that Negroid would offend you"
Aibu that he should not have said that word?

The word was chosen for a reason. There are a lot of better ones that you could have used that weren't going to offend anyone.

Why do you think you got deleted?

Supermanspants · 16/01/2016 20:53

Anyone on this thread who think's OP's experience was acceptable, or that she shouldn't have been offended

The OP said she wasn't offended
She then decided she was offended after he queried her request to not use the word.

It is rather confusing to know what exactly the OP's beef is as she seems to keep drip feeding and changing her focus/opinion depending on what other posters are saying.

Supermanspants · 16/01/2016 20:54

OP just know your place. You should be pleased that the clever white doctor had time to help you

Oh FFS..... it's come to this has it Hmm

Ha! I was going to say I bet it's never been used on MN before but it has by the same poster!

kesstrel · 16/01/2016 20:56

and maybe the same could be afforded to a patient that has never come across that medical terminology before!

But equally it's possible he has never come across a patient who objected to the terminology before, and was taken aback, and was clumsily trying to get across that it was a normal term from his medical training/culture.

MrsWhirling · 16/01/2016 20:56

I hope this thread is deleted. Seriously what has happened to Mumsnet of late? Hardly one thread seems to escape nasty, bitchy and malicious posts designed to purposely upset and antagonise. I am ashamed and frightened by some of the views of this post.

JaneHair · 16/01/2016 20:57

Well well Redbineo it would seem you've been caught out! Grin

FlatOnTheHill · 16/01/2016 21:00

MrsDevere
Uppity means self important and arrogant.
Any colour person could be uppity. It does not make someone racist to call a person that. I am white, if someone called me uppity i would not give a shit.

What the actual fuck?

Have I read just read "why are black people so chippy"?

A whole lot of posters on this thread should be ashamed of themselves.

I've just come back to this thread from earlier. Some posts are disgusting

Legitimate medical terminology or not. The word took OP by surprise and the doctor was wrong to repeat it after she had made that clear. Any doctor who was professional would have taken that on board and not persisted

I too hope this thread is deleted but then the other part of me thinks that actually maybe it should stay as a reminder of what is so wrong in the world. The childish use of some 'near miss' words is particularly twattish

redbinneo · 16/01/2016 21:02

JaneHair
Posting the same opinion on similar threads is not being "caught out", it's being consistent.
You could report me for that as well.

Supermanspants · 16/01/2016 21:03

Yougott

And this The word niggard is not rascist. It derives from Middle English. is (typos notwithstanding) one of the most stupid things I have ever had the misfortune to read in my entire life

Can you explain this comment? The word isn't racist...am rather confused

Ozwizard · 16/01/2016 21:03

I said I was uncomfortable (offended not mentioned)when he first said it and did a nervous laugh as it took a few seconds to think did he really say that. Asked him not to use that word. Because it's uncomfortable. He went on to use it again and again. I was offended that he knew I was uncomfortable and the nurse who walked into another room. Stop means stop! There's no drip feeding just a lot of fucking repeating myself

I think calling someone a cunt as you just have is no better than calling someone the N word. You have just undone all your high and mightiness with that foul rant.

ilovesooty · 16/01/2016 21:05

I hope the thread isn't deleted. It shows some people for what and who they are given the unpleasant nature of their posts.

I asked you about this before (though you were saying "some people" then not that it was your view)

Leaving aside the fact that one is allowed on MN and one isn't, what is your reasoning?

IfItsGoodEnough4ShirleyBassey · 16/01/2016 21:07

Unfortunately it won't do that sooty, because once MNHQ get around to it it'll look like Swiss cheese, certain posters will disingenuously say that MNHQ are heavy handed, and if they take out the (entirely understandable given the provocation) personal attacks as well then it'll look as if each side is as bad as each other. It's unbelievably depressing.

ilovesooty · 16/01/2016 21:08

Sadly that's a fair point Shirley
