to ask someone to move their child out of my plane seat

kipperssippers · 13/01/2016 20:00

more of a WWYD then AIBU but...
i booked the seat by the window as i always do and when i got to my seat a child around 8 was in my seat with her mum beside her.
When i got there i told the mother that the window seat is my seat and she said her child wanted the window seat to look out, i then replied then you should of booked one.
I didnt want to cause a scene but the women made out i'm an arsehole for asking her kid to move as she had never been on a flight and wanted to look outside.
I did give in and stayed pissed off for 7 hours in my non window seat.

what would you of done in this situation?

You are all very welcome to stay with me. I am in Cornwall so quite a way from Brum

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 14/01/2016 14:32

pike I reported ages ago. Very odd.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 14/01/2016 14:33

P.s I have a tin opener and some candles.

TheCatsMeow · 14/01/2016 14:33

But it IS entitled to demand kindness from others, TheCatsMeow. You can decide to be as kind as you want, yourself - you cannot force others to do something you have unilaterally decided is kind.

I think it's sad we can't assume others will be kind

TheCatsMeow · 14/01/2016 14:34

Not I haven't seen folded prams here.

I would move but my family are here and so that is why I don't

FinestGrundyTurkey · 14/01/2016 14:35

I reported it last night, Pike (stupid boy!) & they said I wasn't the only one

as it's still here I assume OP is ok Confused

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 14/01/2016 14:36

Being kind on the expectation that others will do the same defeats the object of it.

Hihohoho1 · 14/01/2016 14:36

You have never seen a folded pram?

Er brought one for my dil last week!

TheCatsMeow · 14/01/2016 14:36

That child who demands a window seat when 8 yrs old, will be the adult who won't give up a train seat for a pregnant woman. Why should they? They've always got what they wanted.

No they won't. They'll be the person who does because they remember the kindness others have shown to them.

Awad it's not a stunt. There's hardly ever any conductors on the line I get anyway. It's at New St.

Livia I don't do it for payback but I think the world would be nicer if everyone was kind

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 14/01/2016 14:38

I would move but my family are here and so that is why I don't

So stop bitching about how vile the English are then. It makes you sound racist - in which case it's no wonder people don't treat you well.

Hihohoho1 · 14/01/2016 14:38

Sugar I am in brum and want to seek cats out as my child wants an I phone 6 and I hope she will fill her with joy

Nope the child will still be spoilt and entitled as that's how they have been taught wins.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 14/01/2016 14:41

Where is the op? Confused

TheCatsMeow · 14/01/2016 14:41

No it isn't hi

Bonywasawarriorwayayix · 14/01/2016 14:41

Here's one for you Cat : A couple get on a busy plane with their 8mo and go to their pre-booked seats, only to find that another couple have sat in the row across the aisle with their 5mo DTs. DTs are not in seats specified on booking (the remainder of the large family group is sitting in the row in front) and airline rules allow only 2 infants on laps per whole width of plane. DTs parents refuse to move, meaning 8mo's family would have to be split up. So, would it be kinder of the 8mo's parents to be split up for the 3 hour flight or kinder of the DTs parents to sit their DCs where they are supposed to?

PS- OP I am in agreement with almost everyone else. I would have maybe let her look for 10 mins but certainly insist on having my seat back.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 14/01/2016 14:41

And most of us are kind - it's just that we don't feel the need to keep telling people that. I'm sure we all make kind gestures. It's just that the world does not grind to a halt for one entitled parent (or two if you count Traingate as well) and remembering that might save you from a lot of disappointment as you go about your life.

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 14/01/2016 14:41

Livia I don't do it for payback but I think the world would be nicer if everyone was kind

I think the world would be better if people didnt block train exits/fire egress and comandeer other travellers pre booked seats.

Different strokes. Smile

TheCatsMeow · 14/01/2016 14:42

It's not racist to dislike a countries culture

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 14/01/2016 14:43

Where is the op?

Has wisely fucked off.

AlisonWunderland · 14/01/2016 14:43

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 14/01/2016 14:43
