To shout at this dog-owner?

Surely if your dog jumps up at strangers it should be on a lead?!

Walking in park, 4-month-old baby in baby-carrier (with his feet dangling in furry bootees) a Westie started jumping up at me, scrabbling at my leg and making grabs at baby's foot when he jumped! I yelled at dog to 'get down then shouted at owner to 'get your dog under control' (she responded with a cheery sorry!)

Did I overreact? I wouldn't care so much had I not had baby strapped to me. I get it that baby's bootees might look like toys but I don't want a dog tugging on them or getting mud/slobber everywhere. And I don't want dogs running round my feet particularly when ground is slippery.

Why can't people keep dogs on leads?? It's not the first time random dogs have jumped up in the park.

And you are such a charmer Waitrose Hmm who has form for name calling - nice.

WaitrosePigeon · 10/01/2016 22:02

Yes okay Anthony, whatever you say Grin

Anyway... For anyone near Buckinghamshire, I really recommend Burnham Beeches for a lovely family friendly/dog friendly walk. We went this morning as it was such a beautiful morning and had a lovely time. Lovely big green open spaces, lots of wildlife and beautiful little birds.

We stopped for a hot chocolate and they even had homemade dog biscuits for the doggies - who were all very well behaved I must say.

I'll really miss these lovely walks with our doggie, he's 12 now and deaf as a donut and I'm sure he's starting to go blind, but I'm going to enjoy every last minute whilst it lasts. I also made 15,000 steps on my Fitbit, go me!

I hate it when annoying kids come and try and pick mine up as she's small. I wouldn't kick them though .... most dogs that jump up are young and learning, kicking them would possibly make them fear aggressive and you may end up with much worse than a muddy paw print. My dog ignores most people but last week some children about 6 or 7 called her cooed at her then ran. She thought it was a game and chased them for about 5 seconds then the mother screeched at me Hmm.

I wish the RSPCA would prosecute andrewofgg for what he did. He happily told the story of a neighbours dog who "annoyed" him so one night he grabbed the poor animal, stuffed it into a hold-all, drove many miles out into the country in the dark and dumped the dog still in the bag. It is 99% certain that poor animal, a much loved pet that provided the only company for his neighbour, died a slow painful death either from freezing, hunger or being eaten. That true tale has lingered with me since I read it. I utterly loathe him for it. Every time I see his name on here I remember it and heartily wish an equivalent retribution on him. I'd call him all sorts of names but don't want to be deleted. I'd rather just let you all know the kind of compassionless twisted poster you are arguing with.

I hope your dog is ok now? That is awful Flowers

ToomuchChocolatemeansBootcamp yes that story has haunted me Sad i cannot believe someone actually was able to admit that. Well i have no idea how someone coukd be so sick in the first place.

WaitrosePigeon don't bite, you know it's the same on every thread and it will go the same way. It's not worth it.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 11/01/2016 00:49

Thanks kali, yes he's fine now. This was a few weeks ago. It didn't get a chance to get a proper hold of him before I intervened, thank god. I was so strung out by it I posted a thread about it.

I've seen that andrew person being a gf on other threads. I had no idea about what he'd done until this thread. What a despicable disgusting pathetic excuse for a human being. That poor little dog. Surely it's owner must have been going out of their mind? I just hope to Christ that someone found it. What an awful, awful thing to do. I doubt he's improved since but I sincerely hope it preys on his mind every now and again.

LucylucyD43 · 11/01/2016 07:38

Shocked Shock why the hell would anyone do that?! Scum. Hope karma gets you Andrew ,what a twisted thing to do.

There are many poorly trained dogs around and it drives me to distraction. My DGD, just 2, has been knocked over twice in our local park. I regularly walk my son's dog and I've lost count of the number of times that other dogs have taken and punctured her ball while owners stand by laughing that 'You'll never get it back now'. However, although my son's dog is incredibly obedient - she never approaches adults and children and wouldn't dream of jumping up - she does have boundless energy and happily chases a ball for an hour twice a day. It would've be so unfair to restrict her on a lead when she has never caused a problem.
