To shout at this dog-owner?

Surely if your dog jumps up at strangers it should be on a lead?!

Walking in park, 4-month-old baby in baby-carrier (with his feet dangling in furry bootees) a Westie started jumping up at me, scrabbling at my leg and making grabs at baby's foot when he jumped! I yelled at dog to 'get down then shouted at owner to 'get your dog under control' (she responded with a cheery sorry!)

Did I overreact? I wouldn't care so much had I not had baby strapped to me. I get it that baby's bootees might look like toys but I don't want a dog tugging on them or getting mud/slobber everywhere. And I don't want dogs running round my feet particularly when ground is slippery.

Why can't people keep dogs on leads?? It's not the first time random dogs have jumped up in the park.

AnthonyBlanche because i found your joke tasteless?
Because whenever there is an animal thread there you are with lovely posts with animal cruelty in them? Yes i'm in a minority clearly sadly Hmm

whois No if there was no hope for an animal i would not put them through tests or procedures, i had to have my own pet put down last year as there was no hope so you're wrong there.
However illnesses sometimes can be treated, if there is hope i would pay anything, just as you would a family member.

iceyrider16 · 09/01/2016 14:58

Cruikshanks the benefits to children of having animals in their lives is well documented and researched. As an adult your well within your rights not to want contact with dogs or any other animal. However it would be cruel and negligent of you to deliberately make your children scared of dogs which is what you appear to be saying! Hmm

AnthonyBlanche · 09/01/2016 14:58

How small minded of your small town neighbours icey. What if the poor man had mental health problems? Do you think it appropriate to laugh about that?

MitzyLeFrouf · 09/01/2016 15:01

Oh Anthony it seems you don't know your country people very well if you think the UK would nod placidly to town and city dwellers being forced to get rid of their dogs. And if you're suggesting allowing cats but prohibiting dogs well expect double the outrage.

Thanks for the chuckle!

AnthonyBlanche · 09/01/2016 15:02

What joke kali? I don't remember making any jokes on this thread? And what animal cruelty have I advocated? Kicking a dog which is attacking you or your child is self defence, not cruelty.

I find it a bit sad that you put the welfare of dogs above that of humans.

iceyrider16 · 09/01/2016 15:02

No he was scared of the dog and inflicting it on his poor child
Anyway I'm off to walk my dog off the lead round the local park. Bye for now Grin

cruikshank · 09/01/2016 15:03

I'd support a law banning dogs, AnthonyBlanche. All they are to me and my family is a fucking nuisance.

MitzyLeFrouf · 09/01/2016 15:04

'Because whenever there is an animal thread there you are with lovely posts with animal cruelty in them?'

Oh he's one of MN's resident anti dog 'characters'? I never took much notice of them until Andrew's horrific confession on that other thread about stealing a dumping a neighbour's dog. Made me shudder quite frankly.

AnthonyBlanche · 09/01/2016 15:05

Mitzy more people live in towns and cities than in the countryside, so I'm sure there would be enough votes to pass legislation banning dogs from them.

kali110 · 09/01/2016 15:07

Whenever there is a thread anthony regarding animals you laugh at animal cruelty. I remember anorther thread you were on.
A neighbours dog that got run over, it was karma?
The op wasn't suggesting the dog was attacking her baby, it shouldn't have been jumping up, but not attacking.
You've already said 'a knee or kick' to ward off unwanted attention from a dog, not because a dog was attacking.
Yes, i put my pets welfare over strangers as theyre my family.
The part you got wrong was that i'm not a dog owner!

AnthonyBlanche · 09/01/2016 15:07

mitzy and kali you appear to be confusing me with AndrewofOgg. However as he speaks sense regarding dogs confuse away, I don't care.

MitzyLeFrouf · 09/01/2016 15:08

Next time a councillor or MP comes electioneering at your front door suggest it to them. I'm sure they'll view it as an absolute vote winner.

kali110 · 09/01/2016 15:09

MitzyLeFrouf That was that poster???
My god you should be ashamed.
I knew they were anti dog but this was disgusting.
I refuse to engage with this sort of person any longer.

MitzyLeFrouf · 09/01/2016 15:09

no confusion here thanks. I referred to you as 'Anthony' and Andrew as um, 'Andrew'?

dogvcatcat · 09/01/2016 15:10

I put the welfare of dogs above hysterical irritating humans who freak out if a dog dares to breathe within ten feet of them. Annoying fuckers.

AnthonyBlanche · 09/01/2016 15:10

mitzy you need to brush up on your reading skills. Nowhere have I said that you owned a dog, just as I haven't revealed whether or not I own a dog or live in a town or in the country.

kali110 · 09/01/2016 15:10

Anyone who condones kidnapping a pet and dumping it miles away so it will die is the same as the person who has done it.
Disgusting.

MitzyLeFrouf · 09/01/2016 15:11

I suggest you take your own advice Anthony as I have no idea what you're on about.

AnthonyBlanche · 09/01/2016 15:12

And FYI mitzi I didn't run my neighbours dog over. If anyone was guilty of cruelty it was her for failing to supervise the annoying animal.

kali110 · 09/01/2016 15:13

Yes, read you're own posts, you're backtracking.

mitzy don't engage this is how the threads go, they rile other posters up. I'm disgusted that mumsnet don't take animal cruelty seriously. Other sites and forums do.

MitzyLeFrouf · 09/01/2016 15:14

Where have I said you ran over your neighbour's dog? Confused

Again, take your own advice and brush up on your reading skills?

kali110 · 09/01/2016 15:14

No nobody said you ran your neighbours dog over? ( why would they??)
You however said it was karma!!!

AnthonyBlanche · 09/01/2016 15:14

sorry mitzi that comment was meant for your friend kali. Your views are so similar that you've merged into one.

AnthonyBlanche · 09/01/2016 15:15

Yes, karma for the stupid woman who didn't supervise her dog properly and left it to bark for hours on end.

MitzyLeFrouf · 09/01/2016 15:16

How embarrassing for you, especially when you haughtily advised me to brush up on my reading skills.

Sweet irony.
