AIBU to pocket them?

I've been lucky enough to stay somewhere pretty naice for last few days and they have fancy assed brand name full size toiletries. My husband says it's not on to pocket them every day but I think it is. What's the etiquette?

I take whatever is left at the end of my stay personally

The last hotel I stayed in gave me a complimentary bottle of red wine, but asked not to take the huge bottles of shampoo. Fair enough Wine.

Enjoy your camping trip, with your purchased toiletries Sansoora although the hotel sizes are exactly right for weekend stays where you don't want to bring to much weight - am not a camping bunny so another reason to be glad to be back at work Grin.

I used to work for a guy who travelled to our offices occasionally. He couldn't bring the bottle of wine from the hotel back home with him as he flew hand luggage only, so he always gave it to me - I do hope it wasn't theft !

I stayed at a hotel recently which has White Company toiletries (replenished daily) They all went home unopened and I used the shower gel and shampoo I'd brought with me. I love White Company stuff Smile If it's nice toiletries they pretty much always find their way into my bag

Ive never stayed in a hotel with full sized toilettries. Surely they are meant to be per customer

Are you picked up by a man in a van carrying out lamp shades, mattresses, bathroom mirrors, Hermione?

lea not sure what that proves - I don't shit in front of other people. Am I hypocrite to do alone in the bathroom?

I've just run upstairs to Dds room as I bought her a mini set of loccitane for Xmas. The shower gel is 75ml (what I call body shop size) & the shampoo & conditioner smaller (50ml).

I'd say they were meant to last for the duration of your stay so fine to take them but I wouldnt have done do daily.

Some hotels replenish the toiletries when they turn down the beds in the evening. I have a nice stash of lovely smellies to see me through to the next holiday.

I work in an hotel, a medium sized non chain one. Its privately owned and provides mini toiletries which are expected to be taken home. They are not free to us but like everything the cost of the room reflects these little things.
What we have stolen quite often are hairdryers, God knows why as they are hardly parlux. Also towels go walkies often as do kettles. We even have sheets disappear but thats only about once a week.
There was talk of having full size toiletries put into bathrooms but it was deemed to be too costly and would also be reflected in room charge.

*hermione" please tell me you don't take cushions, pictures, sheets, furniture, carpets, towels etc etc Wink

Or are you the guest at my sisters hotel who "accidentally" packed the bed throw and chair cushions ........(and who was charged the replacement costs on her credit card - over £300)....

Friend of mine walked out of a Travelodge type Hotel with a pot plant. Not a little Busy Lizzy from the room, no the great big palm tree from the reception.

I remember staying in a swanky London hotel a few years ago and they had these lovely little toiletries - bath salts and stuff in test-tube-like bottles. I took them home and wrapped them in cellophane and gave them to my bestie for her birthday. I always take my own stuff with me because of my sensitive skin.

DH on the other hand had a toilet bag full of mini toiletries he had taken from hotel rooms on his many travels. They just seem to accumulate.

I do use the hard soaps from DH's bag to clean my paintbrushes though

I have worked as a chambermaid in quite a few hotels.

We always had bags of mini toiletries, and were expected to replenish daily, often twice daily in a posh hotel. It is expected you will use or take them and factored into the price ( unless there is a notice stating otherwise)

If someone asked us nicely we'd always Bung them some extras to take home, we always had more than we needed because some people prefer their own/ have allergies etc.

It's always worth buttering up the room service staff, quite a few places I worked had a giant box of unclaimed lost property like phone chargers and cheap reading glasses that we'd loan out to folk who'd lost or forgotten their own.

when we were in the Bellagio in Las Vegas, the room had a limited selection of toiletries, which didn't include bubble bath. Spotted the chambermaid passing and asked for bubble bath. She gave us a handful of stuff, we gave her $5, and she was effusive and told us to take the robe (dressing gown, a nice one) when we checked out...

we didn't take it with us, I should add.

I once naively thought the extra large corporate sized bottles of locvataine shampoo and conditioner were for me to take home as per a friendly note by the bed, I hadn't noticed the 40ml bottles under the sink which they were actually referring to and got a bill for £125!!!

reni2 Shock how the hell did she get away with that?

I have no idea, as we were leaving she scooped up the plant and walked out with it. We had checked out a couple of hours earlier, quite possible they weren't quite sure who to charge, lots of coming and going in a place like that.

The must have been as flummoxed as I was, I walked next to her tutting what the fuck are you doing, take that back... Grin It was very heavy, too.

Their own fault she said, if they had watered it as they should have the hydro-pebbles would have made it impossible to carry. She had that sort of logic. She reckoned she rescued it.

My friend noticed that the laundry cupboard door when opened blocked the security camera. (Poshish boutique chain with French name) so she and bf swiped a complete set of Egyptian cotton high thread bedding and two huge bath towels.
I was totally gobsmacked at the unbridled cheek.
Didn't ask about toiletries though.

I'll take stuff if it's nice - small bottles (the kids ask me to bring stuff home!)

I've stayed in lovely hotels with nice full sized bottles that they encourage you to keep - nice touch
