Etiquette with toiletries in a hotel

AIBU to pocket them?

I've been lucky enough to stay somewhere pretty naice for last few days and they have fancy assed brand name full size toiletries. My husband says it's not on to pocket them every day but I think it is. What's the etiquette?

Rookie I hope you're joking that's such a snobby thing to say

Hmm

Do keep up dear.

ijustwannadance · 06/01/2016 16:51

I always find the smellies in hotels really horrible. Never touch them. DP will open the soap but everything else gets left. The white company ones are the worst.

MrsHathaway · 06/01/2016 16:56

DH takes them when he travels for work. Our local women's shelter is very glad of them for new arrivals.

Not full bottles though.

OnlyLovers · 06/01/2016 17:07

Sansoora, don't be obtuse. That poster corrected herself about a minute after the post you quote.

Sansoora · 06/01/2016 17:12

Onlylovers, no she didnt.

She corrected my name from Rookie to Sansoora.

Aposey · 06/01/2016 17:13

Having worked in a hotel as a cleaner I can tell you they will have massive sacks of the stuff stashed away all over the place, and although we would have a bit of a giggle if someone stayed for a week and pocketed everything every single day (where did they put it all?!), it didnt matter and wasnt unusual. As long as its the little bottles, they dont care!

OnlyLovers · 06/01/2016 17:39

Sansoora, yes: her post was addressed to you, she just got the name wrong and then corrected it. She was replying to YOUR comment, not Rookie's, about how taking the toiletries is 'letting yourself down.'

MitzyLeFrouf · 06/01/2016 17:41

'by taking them every day you're showing you're not used to being in a hotel like the one you're in now. You're kind of letting yourself down. You're supposed to give the impression that you're used to hotels and a standard of living like it.'

Bugger that. If I ever get to stay in Claridge's I'm taking all the freebies going. I'll cope just fine with them knowing I don't stay there on a regular basis!

KwickNC · 06/01/2016 17:48

I clearly corrected my mistake.

Sansoora · 06/01/2016 17:49

Yes, Im aware of that. But thank you anyway.

It seems you both missed this post -

Im only repeating what I was once told but I can see my post didn't appear quite as tongue in cheek as I thought it did.

DickDewy · 06/01/2016 17:53

My DH always takes all the little bottles, he then puts them in a cupboard and forgets all about them. I then throw them out.

Actually, I have just remembered he went to hospital recently as a day patient and I did take a lovely basket of Molton Brown toiletries.

I don't bother usually.

Sansoora · 06/01/2016 17:55

This is so daft. Grin

Only, is there nothing on TV for you to watch cos you're not making a very good job of policing this thread.

Sansoora · 06/01/2016 17:59

I clearly corrected my mistake.

Yes, you did. Not that you had to. It was very clear you were addressing me.

Its Only who's all confused. Grin

rookiemere · 06/01/2016 18:07

This thread is achieving the impossible feat of making me glad I'm going back to work tomorrow Grin.

Please could people try not to confuse me with sansoora going forward - she seems a little feistier than myself.

reni2 · 06/01/2016 18:11

Sansoora =/= rookiemere

Sansoora concluded before the whole hope this is a joke palaver that her tongue in cheek did not come across. It's all good, was a joke, it was all good some 30 posts and 3 hours ago.

Love and peace. Last day of Christmas and all that.

Floggingmolly · 06/01/2016 18:14

In hospital (and as a day patient) and you nicked a basket of toiletries, Dick?

Sansoora · 06/01/2016 18:17

Its making me glad that no matter where I stay I only ever use the bar of Lux and bottle of Pantene Provene Ive taken with me.

But that aside I really should have added one of these Shock or Hmm after my initial post but I never for a minute thought it wouldn't be recognised as tongue in cheek after opening my post by saying I didn't think the OP was being unreasonable. And to think someone else said something about it being skanky Grin

Anway, have a nice day back at work. Im off on a camping trip with my children and grandchildren. We're going to an Island about 5 hours drive from here and it involves a very basic ferry crossing. Ive got my Lux and a bottle of wine with me and all is well.

Sansoora · 06/01/2016 18:19

Thank you Reni :)

I only wish I'd also explained when it was said to me but ........... Grin

SuburbanRhonda · 06/01/2016 18:20

spaceyboo

You nicked toiletries from a hotel and gave them to your friends for Christmas?

Shock
APlaceOnTheCouch · 06/01/2016 18:23

I thought Dick meant that her DP took the toiletries in with him to use.

toffeeboffin · 06/01/2016 18:24

I always take all the toiletries, even once they have been replaced.

I hide them in my wash bag so they are refreshed by the maid - I thought everyone did this?

Sunnymeg · 06/01/2016 18:30

My MIL used to take empty bottles on holiday, that she would fill up from the large bottles in the hotel room. 😊

TheWeeBabySeamus1 · 06/01/2016 18:33

You're fine OP, I used to clean hotel rooms and any toiletries that were left after a guests stay were binned anyway ( incase they'd been opened or tampered with ) so it was more of a waste to leave them behind.

Sansoora · 06/01/2016 18:33

Seemingly not and I only know this because I was away with my SIL for the weekend recently at a very nice hotel and because she loves smellies and goes everywhere with travel sized bottle of this that and the other I tipped all the wee bottles into her case one day. Seemingly it was a no-no and even worse because I'd given her mine as well - I'd let myself down and insulted her into the bargain. I thought she was joking but her mum who'd been a ladies maid way back in the day had told her never to do it and so she wouldnt.

I did ask her about all the free miniatures from the mini bar on our last cruise that found there way into her suitcase but that was different because they were for medicinal purposes - she uses them to make hot toddies in the winter. Grin

DickDewy · 06/01/2016 18:34

It was a complimentary basket of Molton Brown toiletries Molly!

It even had a little card saying please enjoy and take home!
