To hate fireworks and think they should be banned

In residential areas?

They are so disruptive and dangerous. It's not even limited to 5th November or New Year's Eve they will go on for a week around every celebration plus people's personal parties.

AIBU to think letting off explosives in populated residential areas is incredibly stupid and unfair? As well as people getting injured it's not fair to the wildlife, and domestic animals. My cat has a heart problem and jumps like he's been hit every time the fireworks go off and ends up cowering behind the seat.

Then there's people with PTSD who think it sounds like gunshots, people like me who's illness gets worse with lack of sleep...

They should be organised displays only.

I love fireworks but YANBU. There is a world of difference between an organised display and some idiot who lets of 2 rockets in his minute back garden in a row of terraces at 4 am. I'm quite sure the 'thrill' he got from that didn't justify the irritation it caused everyone else who lives here.

MrsItsNoworNotatAll · 02/01/2016 20:05

I think you just don't like them.

TaliZorah · 02/01/2016 20:07

I don't mind them. I don't love them but I don't hate them at events. I do hate them in residential areas for the reasons mentioned.

Yes I thought so red. I've noticed tali spending all their time goading people on here recently.

TaliZorah · 02/01/2016 20:09

I'm not goading anyone. How am I goading? Most people have agreed that it is U to set them off in the back garden.

March that sort of knobhead spoils it for everyone. I love fireworks but I hate idiots who do that.

Takeparacetamolandstopmoaning · 02/01/2016 20:10

All of your threads / responses are irritating and designed to be as contrary as possible. You're either goading or you're a really difficult person.

TaliZorah · 02/01/2016 20:11

People are setting them off now. It's not New Year's Eve, is it?!

I've just got my poorly DS to sleep. Sad

TaliZorah · 02/01/2016 20:12

No they're not paracetamol, I just give my opinion and sometimes it agrees with people and sometimes it doesn't.

I'm a pretty nice person tbh but I'm not not going to say what I think just in case someone's offended.

How is it unreasonable though? If they're having a party perhaps to celebrate a birthday or whatever and they let off a few fireworks as well. Really Can't see a problem with that. And if you live close to other people you're going to get noise.

Perhaps go and live on an island.

TaliZorah · 02/01/2016 20:22

Because those few fireworks could

  • trigger a flashback in a war veteran
  • upset someone's autistic child
  • keep someone awake all night who has to be up at 6 as a paramedic
  • wake up people's kids
  • injure people's pets and wildlife
  • injure other people

That's why.

I love fireworks - at organised displays, where they're let off by people with a bit of a clue, and in a safe way, on predictable dates. I totally agree with the OP that 'domestic' fireworks should be banned - or maybe limited to pretty sparkly stuff that doesn't go bang. I live in Ireland, and so far have not felt in the slightest bit oppressed nor deprived by our laws concerning fireworks - it's a blessed relief after the UK's approach!

Oh get over yourself. What a ridiculous list

TaliZorah · 02/01/2016 20:27

Why is that ridiculous?

Or make us feel joy

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 02/01/2016 20:28

Or they could do none of those things.

WahhHelpMe · 02/01/2016 20:28

I have MH issues and as like many you don't speak for me with all your emotive MH stuff playing it as an auto winning card in a debate "but think of the MH people"

fact is if you hear fireworks for a week that's 1.9% of a year but most of them days would be at a reasonable time.

Then someone said 1000 injuries a year (hardly any to be put in hospital) and 1 death in 8 years. Well that's meaningless as we're generally talking about sensible adults, so you have to dissect those that have got them illegally, those two young to have them, whether they are from near displays or individuals etc the figure 1000 injuries is near in meaningless when talking about restrictions for example why restrict to displays if there were 1000 injuries but 638 were the result of two displays going wrong.

Reasons for fireworks
Economic (sales and potentially making)

Social ( normally in gatherings)

Raises morale generall

WahhHelpMe · 02/01/2016 20:29

Generally they are done for happy occasions so for some with MH issues it may help them,

WahhHelpMe · 02/01/2016 20:30

And that's just for a start

MrsItsNoworNotatAll · 02/01/2016 20:30

Oh whatever!

Silly list. And you're just being goady.

TaliZorah · 02/01/2016 20:31

Not being goady, if you genuinely think your need for fireworks is above potentially making people ill and hurting animals you are selfish

OP posts:
TaliZorah · 02/01/2016 20:31

You clearly live somewhere quiet. We get them all year round

OP posts:
WahhHelpMe · 02/01/2016 20:32

Or perhaps you're in an outlier of a location? Why are you automatically the norm?

TaliZorah · 02/01/2016 20:36

Others said the same thing earlier so I don't think it's just me.

OP posts:
wasonthelist · 02/01/2016 20:36

How is a ban any less selfish than allowing fireworks?
