In ridiculously sad excited. I got given an Instant Pot Duo 60 for Christmas and it is utterly fantastic!

I cooked a cheesecake in 25 minutes. It's delicious. Then I pot roasted a 2kg joint of beef in 45 minutes -beautifully tender and still just ever so slightly rare in the middle.

Using the gf157 code actually makes it £30 cheaper than Amazon for the 7 in 1 plus you get the mits and extra seal and free delivery.

U2 they say it only happens onceGrin

Three methods to combat that: 1. Let it NPR for a few minutes. 2. Put a tea towel over the vent as you QPR. 3. Let the steam out in bursts - put a wooden spoon through the handle then use the edge to gently lift the vent knob for a couple of seconds at a time.

Tonight's dinner was pasta bolognese. 450g mince, an onion, 375g pasta, a generous squirt of tomato puree, 500g passata, 2 cups of water and 2 squares of dark chocolate.

I browned the mince and onion using the sauté function, then shoved the pasta on top, squirted the tomato puree on, a sprinkle of salt, then poured the passata onto the pasta. 2 squares of chocolate plonked on the passata. Then simply 2 cups of water poured down the side of the pasta and 6 minutes on manual with QPR.

It wasn't dangerous, just messy.

Thanks for the tips Lougle.

First time I stewed some cooking apples I thought I needed to do quick release to stop them going too mushy.... never again!!!

Pangurban1 · 22/01/2016 15:58

Easiest clean ever after cooking dinner. Just the stainless steel pot which was light as a feather to cart to the sink and one small saucepan where I made soup to add to the stew after cooking. Very energy saving for the cook! I had a full dishwasher waiting to be turned on, so next time might be even easier if I shove it in there.

I didn't even brown the meat and just chucked what I had (potatoes, carrots, onions, celery, peppers) into a stew with water and made up a little soup to add to it. Very nicely cooked and meat needing 2 and a half hours in a casserole was done in 40mins while I did other things. Didn't have to keep checking or adjusting heat in case of burning etc. I preferred the veg in this than the slow cooker.

It is handy and so easy to clean. It is a good buy. I'm off the mark.

Cheesecake is in...

chicaguapa · 22/01/2016 16:17

Can I use it to re-cook my meat pie filling, do you think? It was cooked in a slow cooker and frozen, but I'd like it to be falling apart like when it's been pc'd and was wondering about giving it 20 mins on HP with NPR.

Or would that overdo it and make it tough?

saltedcaramelhotchoc · 22/01/2016 17:47

That pasta looks fab! Eek to the scary exploding food. I'm still a bit worried I will do that...

Chippednailvarnish · 22/01/2016 17:53

Doesn't look too impressive but tastes great, 13 minutes in the pot and 5 under the grill...

I've just been given a Tower version for my birthday! V exciting. Bitch side of me is sad giver didn't mention it and I could have pointed them go GH and got the 7 in 1 with the yogurt setting, but maybe I can figure out a way to do yogurt in this one?

lougle · 22/01/2016 19:45

chica - yes, you'll be fine to do that. If it's a bit tough then just give it longer. Apparently, the cycle goes wet & tough: raw; just right; Dry & tough: overcooked; fall apart tender again - you've gone past the dry and tough bit and it's all good!

witsender, don't be sad. I'm sure it's great and all of the recipes will work with just a bit of tweaking. If you're sad like me, you'll need two within a short time, so your second one can be the Instant Pot! Or you can just find that your tower one is faulty and replace it with the IP......

Last night's sausage casserole worked out well. I've always had to do it in a cast iron pot in the oven before because the slow cooker drained the flavour from it, but it was great, even allowing for the fact that I forgot both the pancetta and garlic so ended up lobbing in some chilli sherry to DH & my portions to give it some oomph.

V.impressed. Made another cheese cake too, and this time it looks just as it should do, not soggy. Am not trying it yet as it's still got to set in the fridge, ready for tomorrow and the small children that will probably try to face-plant in it before I get a bite.

987flowers · 22/01/2016 23:10

I'm so tempted. Just checked and the code is still working. Just wondering if I'll get the use out of it.

lougle · 23/01/2016 09:44

I don't know anyone that has one who doesn't use it. I use it several times per week. In fact I haven't cooked on the stove since getting it.

Mine kept overheating last night with the curry I had in it, not sure why..........might it have been the tinned tomatoes? I switched to low pressure and added more water twice until it was virtually soup but made no difference :( Bit annoying.

lougle · 23/01/2016 14:24

It will be the tomatoes. They really need to be kept away from the bottom of the pot.

saltedcaramelhotchoc · 23/01/2016 16:29

Ok I'm being dense here but to cook a swede to mash it, I would cube the swede, put it on bottom of pot with water (how much?) then for how long? And NPR or quick release? Thank you!

Sweet potato and lentil soup came out well...

lougle · 23/01/2016 16:49

Cooking times

You need to add 20% because the IP doesn't run at 15psi pressure. So take their 7 minutes and add 1.5 minutes.....I'd give it 8 minutes with QPR.

Put it in a small steamer basket if you have one, on the trivet. 1.5-2 cups of water (add salt if desired).

OP posts:
saltedcaramelhotchoc · 23/01/2016 17:11

Thank you Lougle! Is QPR scary? I've avoided it thus far.

whats4teamum · 23/01/2016 17:19

Eating worms I also had an overheat with a curry last night. I think my paste caught on the bottom. Then I added too much water and had the soup effect.

I've just done a cheesecake which looks pretty good.

Will attempt Mac and cheese tonight.

Does anyone have a link to a steamer insert that can sit above something eg stew cooker to do veg.

lougle · 23/01/2016 18:38

QPR is scary the first time you do it. It's fine though. Just make sure it isn't under a cupboard when you do it so the steam can escape.

OP posts:
lougle · 23/01/2016 18:40

I have this one

I also have this one

I've cooked a tomato based pasta sauce in mine twice and not had a problem with overheating - is it a common thing and I've just been lucky?

witsender · 24/01/2016 10:58

I'm excited about trying mine out now! May do a pot roast, or something with mince as have some in freezer.

Need to clear some cupboard space too!
