Just had a blazing row with "D"Bro over rinising dishes after washing them.

I went to put a plate I was washing on the drainer and he roared at me for not rinsing it

Confused

Who is the weirdo here?

I don't rinse. But then I don't wash up in dirty water. And my plates are clean when they've been washed. If there's food residue left on plates after washing, I suggest they haven't been washed properly, and need to be washed again, not rinsed.

ChoccyLog · 27/12/2015 17:43

I don't get this 'wastes water' thing unless you are on a water meter. We aren't. we pay a lot of money per annum for water and until there is a water shortage (York today, anyone?) then I'll use as much as I like as I'm paying for it!

90sforever · 27/12/2015 17:44

Choccy why don't you post something showing it's unsafe? It's widely sold with no warnings, and we're using it as intended.

What principles to personal hygiene? I don't understand what you mean. I shower/ bathe once or twice a day. I don't double wash my body.
I try not to waste more
Water than I already do as many Millions of people die all over the world from lack of it clean water, it seems churlish. For the same reason I don't rinse before putting things in the dishwasher.

90sforever · 27/12/2015 17:45

Fwiw I am on a water meter as are most people round here - the water companies are changing everyone onto one.

WillSomebodyThinkOfStefan · 27/12/2015 17:45

Elinor - the water is dirty as soon as your pots go in the bowl - You are in effect washing your pots in diluted food.

imnottoofussed · 27/12/2015 17:46

I don't rinse and haven't met anyone who does, I've never tasted soap on anything Confused

VegetablEsoup · 27/12/2015 17:47

my bottle says to rinse after use.

90sforever · 27/12/2015 17:49

Mine doesn't

LittleBeautyBelle · 27/12/2015 17:50

On my bottle of dishwashing liquid which is phosphate free, it says
Directions: Wash dishes and other items as you usually would. Always rinse thoroughly with clean water after washing.

To think you dont rinse dishes after washing them??
Beahun · 27/12/2015 17:51

btw Brits seem to be the only nation that don't rinse as a matter of course

This this this this!! Everyone non British I know reminds me of this!!!
So true, and sorry very disgusting!

This had made me smile. You are so right! As a foreigner myself I always find these things strange and I been here 15 years. My dh is English and he is never rinses! So does my Fil! Personly if I drink out of a glass and it's wasn't rinsed then I would have cold sore by the next day. We had argument about not rinsing but I just had to take him off washing up duties. We don't have a dishwasher!

pollylovespie · 27/12/2015 17:51

It is SO lazy not rinsing. People don't rinse because then you can get the dishes 'done' much faster (except they're actually not done at all). I'm a total minger but don't want to drink soapy tea. Not a shouting matter though.

SilverOldie2 · 27/12/2015 17:52

I've always rinsed in hot water and air dry - don't fancy my food tasting of Fairy Liquid. I'm on a water meter but it won't stop me rinsing.

LittleBeautyBelle · 27/12/2015 17:52

close up.

To think you dont rinse dishes after washing them??
allnewredfairy · 27/12/2015 17:57

I don't rinse but tend to chuck a jug of cold water over the stuff on the draining board if it looks particularly sudsy.
A slattern? Maybe! But I am the healthiest person I know!

steff13 · 27/12/2015 18:04

LittleBeautyBelle, are you in the US? Kroger is my regular grocery store. I'm in Ohio.

MoMoTy · 27/12/2015 18:07

It's dirty not to rinse the dishes. Don't be pigs, it's disgusting.

90sforever · 27/12/2015 18:13

I'm not British. Littlebeautybelle your WUL is totally unrecognisable, that's not a British brand is it?

fresta · 27/12/2015 18:13

Beahun- please can you explain how an unrinsed glass gives you a coldsore?

90sforever · 27/12/2015 18:13

Dur fresta! Her best friends grans dog is a GP and told her!

steff13 · 27/12/2015 18:15

90sforever, that's a Kroger store brand. Kroger is a chain grocery store based in Cincinnati, Ohio. We don't call it washing up liquid in the US, either, we call it dish soap.

cozietoesie · 27/12/2015 18:15

It's just that washing up is like bathing. You use something to emulsify the fat and various bits and dilute them with water. If you rinse, you get rid of the diluted residue. Smile

90sforever · 27/12/2015 18:16

Well there you go. Ohio isn't relevent here I'm afraid!

GnomePhone · 27/12/2015 18:17

It's not just the fact that unrinsed washing up has WUL left on them, it will also have bits of food and other people's saliva and greasy fingerprints from glasses and cutlery. Yum.

90sforever · 27/12/2015 18:19

And how does rinsing help? Do you know how hot your water has to be to get that off? And if you just had the soapy water hot enough you wouldn't even need to worry. Otherwise I can only assume you're rinsing under a freshly boiled kettle

steff13 · 27/12/2015 18:19

Why not? We have dishes, too. Even if our soap brands are different, the formulas are likely very similar.
