To hate the disingenuous, lying, underhand Hunting Brigade and there ongoing campaign to bring back fox hunting

I hate fox hunting with horses and hounds. It's cruel and barbaric. That's my only objection. I don't mind shooting foxes if they are predating livestock like chickens and lambs. The rest should be left in peace to maintain their place in rural life.

The Hunting brigade and the Countryside Alliance have lied about everything to support their 'sport'. Not least the mass euthanasia of hounds and horses and loss of countryside jobs if it was banned. 10 years on it is more popular then ever.

They still 'accidentally' kill foxes who stray across their path. Why? Because the trail they lay is still concocted to smell of foxes. They have had 10 years to raise hounds to follow a different scent. Dogs can be trained to pick up the scent of anything so why stick to fox? Of course it's because they knew if a conservative government got in they would change the law back again.

Thank you SNP for scotching that idea.

I wasn't comparing meat eating to hunting, I was stating that the killing part of both was not an element that I get enjoyment from.
I can guess why your against it now after working in a hunt yard superman.

Deer are actually very damaging to crops so stags would fall into that category

Supermanspants · 27/12/2015 00:33

So you're ok with stag hunting with hounds then Pink

kali110 · 27/12/2015 02:09

worra give up.
I'm seriously disgusted that i breathe the same air As some people on this thread.
I don't believe for a second that some of them get pleasure from simply 'riding their horses over hedges' and not from seeing a helpless animal killed.
They just don't want to admit it.
If that is all they love, then why not just ride their horses?
It's sick.
Btw a pack of hounds hunting it's prey is breathtaking for pro and anti hunters??
Er, no it's not.
That made me feel sick to my stomach.
It's not breathtaking it's nausating knowing an animal is most likely going to die in terror and pain!
hound stop trying to pretend you get no joy from the dead animal at the end as it's not working.

Stanky · 27/12/2015 05:40

Just go for a nice ride, and enjoy the country side. Just leave out the cruelty.

It is the mentality of the people who enjoy chasing and killing any animal for fun that is sick.

Bufra · 27/12/2015 08:10

I will freely admit I am not hugely bothered by foxes being killed by hounds. However in years of hunting I have seen that happen precisely once. My children have never seen it. It is definitely not the reason that they enjoy hunting. I think it's important to point out that hunting within the law is completely legal and will go on happily like this for years to come. I am sorry if you hate it but at the moment there is nothing you can do about it unless you wish to sab a perfectly legal activity for your own enjoyment.

Andrewofgg · 27/12/2015 08:21

Bufra Spot on. The motivation of the sabber killjoys is at least as suspect as that of the hunters.

According to Wikipedia there is no ban on hunting in NI - which is their business. Anyone know the position in the South?

tobysmum77 · 27/12/2015 09:10

What an utterly bizarre thread. Fox hunting is banned already. What do people want the government to do??? Ban the walking of dogs while wearing a red coat? Most people wouldn't see a police presence at every drag hunt a good use of the much coveted on mn 'public purse'. People enjoy riding horses, people walk their dogs, some of which kill something while they are out. So should we prosecute everyone whose dog kills something? The 'Sabs' are just thugs who once it was banned didn't know what to do.

If you asked the vast majority of people for their top 10 issues for the government to tackle this would be on very few lists. So the status quo will continue. The countryside alliance are bonkers thinking otherwise, the sabs need to get a new hobby although they are obviously lacking imagination.

Bufra · 27/12/2015 10:13

I do think some people get confused. My aunt thinks 'hunting' is illegal - ie people gathering together on horseback with a pack of hounds. She couldn't understand why people were so blatant about it and wanted to know why the police didn't stop it Grin

Siwi · 27/12/2015 10:16

They hunt in Eire.

jorahmormont · 27/12/2015 10:20

Surely this is just one step up from kids enjoying pulling the wings off flies?

It's repeated time and time again that hurting/killing animals is an early sign of psychopathic tendencies. It's only because it's a very middle/upper class sport that these people aren't being seen as inhumane monsters. I'm sure people who arrange dog fights would say they love the 'thrill' and 'the rush', but they're (quite rightly) called disgusting. The only difference between them and people who enjoy hunting is their social standing.

Siwi · 27/12/2015 10:24

I am not pro hunting, btw. Just have hunting MAD in laws. I've spent years playing Devil's Advocate so I'm aware of the hunting side's party line and what they actually think and say.

I agree with Andrew's recent comment about the motives of the sabs being at least as suspect as the hunters.

Rupert Campbell Black said something very similar to Helen, who he married, when he met her when she was a sab.

A few years ago a hunt supporter was decapitated by mistake by a light aircraft (can't remember technical term) that was monitoring the hunt). I thought that that incident would cool everyone's blood. (There has been violence on both sides but that one stuck in my mind).

Bufra · 27/12/2015 10:27

Well that's odd as I don't know any psychopaths but I know many people who hunt. So something doesn't stack up there. In fact rural isolation in the elderly probably causes more mental health issues - something the hunting community avoid.

Siwi · 27/12/2015 10:27

Hunting pp trot out the line that ordinary pp hunt and have 'poster' working class hunters. This is bollox. It's v social. Hunt balls and loads of events. The pp who ask 'Do you hunt?' Are the same type who ask which school I attended.

Mrsmorton · 27/12/2015 10:31

I don't understand the class argument tbh. Can someone explain why apoplectic talk about toffs all the time?
Football season tickets cost a huge amount of money, I wish the chavs wouldn't spend their benefits on such fripperies. Still, it's not illegal so let them get on with it I say.

Mrsmorton · 27/12/2015 10:32

Apoplectic? Confused people Bloody iPhone.

Supermanspants · 27/12/2015 10:33

I think it's important to point out that hunting within the law is completely legal and will go on happily like this for years to come

Oh thank god....... we were wondering Hmm

In other news, hunts up and down the country break the law week in, week out.

WorraLiberty · 27/12/2015 10:34

That's an interesting point Siwi

I imagine if it were youths wearing tracksuits, charging through council estates, hunting rats with a pack of Staffies, the view may be somewhat different Grin

Supermanspants · 27/12/2015 10:36

What do people want the government to do??? Ban the walking of dogs while wearing a red coat?

You've shown yourself up with this one.
What a stupid comment.

tobysmum77 · 27/12/2015 10:36

Grin bufra

Although you can never be certain that you aren't acquianted with psychopaths. Its less of a normal topic of conversation than "do you hunt?"

Siwi · 27/12/2015 10:39

You should go just once, Worra.
It would be interesting to hear your impressions.

Supermanspants · 27/12/2015 10:40

I am sorry if you hate it but at the moment there is nothing you can do about it unless you wish to sab a perfectly legal activity for your own enjoyment

Hats off to the 1000's of people whose 'enjoyment' of sabbing ensures as many hunts as possible are not killing illegally in the name of sport.

Abraid2 · 27/12/2015 10:44

How do elderly foxes die if not hunted?

Often through starvation. With crows pecking at their eyes.

Wolves, their natural predator, would have culled them like hounds do.

I disagree with terriers digging them out of their holes, though.

Siwi · 27/12/2015 10:45

It was heads off for Trevor Morse.
:(

Supermanspants · 27/12/2015 10:48

How do elderly foxes die if not hunted?

Such a relief to know that an elderly fox will be hunted down and shredded. Thank god hunts are so thoughtful as to ensure a fox does not die as nature intended. How on earth would nature cope without a bunch of knobs rampaging all over the place Hmm
