I have a married friend, who wishes "Her gorgeous hubby of X years a very happy anniversary" on Facebook every year. I genuinely do not get why you would wish your hubby "Happy anniversary" on Facebook if you live with them and see them everyday.

Is it because I am too old to understand this Facebook malarkey?

Nope I find it's mainly to make sure everyone knows how happily married they are. I don't get it either op and I'm 25!

It's very odd, imo.

I remember a friend posting

'Just wanted to say congratulations to Sarah and mark on the birth of their son bob'

Sarah and Mark are not on Facebook.

I commented 'well then say it to them, they won't see it here'

It didn't go down well Confused

But why would you do that?

Why would you say 'I just want to say congratulations' to someone not on Facebook.

If you want to say it to them, say it to them.

I don't see at home and congratulate people telepathically. If want to say something to someone, I make sure they will actually receive the congratulations.

I have a two couples who post how much they love each other. They have the most dysfunctional relationships out of all the couples I know.

I also hate the 'just been to Ella's parents evening - well done darling!' Or 'happy 2nd birthday Arnold, mummy loves you sooo much' when the kids won't even see it.

I hate that too Salem my sisters all post how much they miss our dead mother, every year on the anniversary of her death. She didn't have facebook when she was alive 20 years ago, she certainly doesn't have it now. It is just attention seeking nonsense.

Maybe they want to let their friends know that they are happy about their anniversary, or their child's good results or birthday, or that they are sad because they are missing their mother. That's what Facebook is about, sharing life events and news with friends. If you aren't interested then you can always unfollow.

My husband always wishes me a happy anniversary on fb! Been together nearly 20 years and married nearly 10!
Dont see the problem tbh, I think its nice that he still remembers Grin
If people stopped putting stuff on fb to which some find tasteless no-one would write anything.

I wish my husband a happy anniversary on FB every year, and post a wedding photo. I'm sentimental like that and it doesn't do any harm. I don't mind if people find it odd or infer from it that we are disfunctional or on the brink of divorce. It's just a harmless post, if my friends don't like it, they can just scroll past. Most of my friends click 'like' and wish us a happy anniversary, though. Grin

Couples who are having conversations with each other on facebook. When you know they are at that moment sat next to each other watching corrie. Far worse.

Facebook is a way for people to put their thoughts down, I don't have a problem with it tbh. People feel better after they have wished their dearly departed a happy birthday. I don't do it but think it's sweet mostly.

What I love the most is when someone announces an engagement or pregnancy and there is always one friend who comments 'I'm so glad you've told everyone as it's been so hard keeping it a secret!' Just to let everyone know how much of a good friend they are!

Social media is a place for people to share their thoughts. In the olden days I've seen many newspaper ads wishing people Merry Christmas or happy anniversary or what not. Just unfollow people who annoy you.

I don't really get it either. Then again if you looked at my fb page apart from a few pictures I never mention anything about dp. Partly because he isn't on fb and because I don't feel anyone else really cares if we've been together x amount of years of not, or anything else about us for that matter. I definitely wouldn't post how much I loved him as I wouldn't come out with it in rl.

I find it annoying when a friend or family member announces, within minutes probably of finding out, the birth of someone else's baby, complete with the sex, name, weight, time of birth etc before the actual parents have even publicly announced it!

Back in September a family member posted at about 8am:

"Would just like to wish my son [name] a very happy first day at school lots of love mum xxx"

  1. He's probably sat next to you
  2. He's five
  3. He doesn't have sodding Facebook

It's doesn't bother me enough to quit Facebook or anything, but it is mildly ridiculous Grin

I find it immensely irritating.

I did make a post about having our lovely son three years ago, but I like seeing friends celebrating their children's birthdays as long as not too ott (ie the present shot).

I feel I see too much of a few couples relationships online. It's in some respects nice to know it's a fab relationship, at the same time one couple then got divorced. I saw far too many of their airbrushed beach holiday snaps before hand.

I understand this.

But it's when they are addressing someone who isn't on FB that gets me.

I don't get why you would want everyone to know you are happy about your anniversary.

If someone put 'it's our anniversary today! So happy'

I would find that different to the example the op have.

Like the parents evening.

If someone said
'Parents evening tonight, really proud of Bob!'

That's fine. It's odd when they say 'well done Bob' when Bob is five doesn't have Facebook
