E-cigs indoors

New, so hello everyone.
Ive smoked fags for years so my teenage son has always seen me go outside for a fag as would never have smoked indoors.
For the past month ive been on the e-cigs which are great and I feel so much better and dont stink like an ashtray anymore.
As they are not real and only let off harmless vapour am I being unreasonable for now sitting on the sofa at night puffing away on my e-cig with him sitting next to me. Please be gentle.

My DH went on to e-cigs and I let him vape indoors, it didn't bother me at all. Although some flavours were more annoying than others. He's managed to quit altogether now, so it's been brilliant for him.

I don't see why not.

I've never smoked a real cigarette in my life but I smoke a 0% nicotine vaporiser because it tastes nice. I don't smoke it in public places but see no harm at home.

I don't think the nicotined version would be any more harmful to a passive inhaler.

Depends on the smell. Some of the liquids are just as rank smelling (imo) than cigarettes.

The thing is, by not going outside in the cold you'll probably end up vaping 3 times more than you smoked.

I'm not sure if your intention is to eventually give up but if it is, you should probably stick to your old routine.

Bystanders are still exposed to aerosol exhaled by the user. Toxins and nicotine have been measured in that aerosol, such as formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, acetic acid and other toxins emitted into the air, though at lower levels compared to conventional cigarette emissions.

We have had this very issue with ds3 (18) - sadly he has smoked for a couple of years, but recently he has switched to vaping. I would rather he didn't smoke at all, but if he has to do something, I'd rather he vaped.

He never smoked indoors - we don't let anyone smoke in our house - but he has been vaping indoors. When dh spotted this, he was not sure whether he was happy with this, but my view is that it's the smell of cigarettes that I hate - the smell of vapour from an e-cig doesn't bother me - so we have compromised, and he can vape in his room.

Husband vapes (constantly) inside and it generally doesn't bother me at all. However, there is a point where the device gets a bit coked up and you can get a sort of burnt whiff. But, whatever, I'm so glad he's not smoking fags.

There was a paper recently that showed that vapourized air was pretty much indistinguishable from everyday air, in contrast to cigarette smoke (by Farsalinos?). So, whilst there may be trace elements relating to flavour etc, I think it's essentially fine.

Worra someone else said that. Would like to stop puffing totally. And you are right i do vape more. Its such a new thing and for someone that smoked 20 a day.

You will vape more as the nicotine from vaping is released at a much smaller & slower rate than from a fag.

You won't harm anyone from your vaping.

Vapers vape more because of the nicotine release which the poster above mentioned. But that's fine. It's only a bit of flavouring and stuff used in inhalers. Nicotine is no more harmful than caffeine- less so, it's the rest of the stuff in cigarettes that kills you.

Not true. The only thing that lingers is a trace of the flavouring ingredient which isn't harmful. There has been a few studies to prove this now, which again was mentioned above.

Actually Worra is completely right. I commented to my DH that although he was doing well to have rid himself of the toxins in the cigarettes, his nicotine habit must have tripled because it was so much easier to vape indoors at regular intervals whereas before he'd have to wait for opportunities to go outside for a cigarette.

His vaper thing broke and he decided to just go cold turkey after that and it was much easier having already progressed to an e-cig than just stopping with the fags.

Pointless comparing smoking to vaping, immaterial if someone inhales more nicotine than when smoking, it was the smoke that killed not the nicotine.

I have asthma and I smoke, judge me, stupid teenage decision and realisation it repressed my asthma but I find e-cigs really affect my chest in the same way perfumes and other aerosols do. I don't smoke inside or around other people and I prefer people not to vape around me because it makes me feel incredibly ill. I've also read a lot of things about the harm that can be caused by chemicals in the e-cigs, and nicotine in itself is quite bad as it causes damage to arteries. If it doesn't bother anyone though it's probably no worse than breathing by a road.

Vaping is banned where I work as well.

I don't have a strong opinion on it.

I like the smell of the custard one and positively encourage my pal to Vape in my house.

Anyone who has read junk about the harms from chemicals in electronic cigarettes or the vapour should always check latest from Dr Farsalinos . If it's particularly bad junk he's always a reassuring source.

I just don't think it's necessary to do it indoors. You previously had to wait to go outside for a cigarette, so doing it wherever and whenever you want seems counter-productive to quitting smoking to me.

I vape indoors. I've switched to a lower nicotine liquid too and hope to quit completely at some point. Dp doesn't mind the vapour at all.

No idea how Vaping indoors is counter-productive to quitting smoking since we haven't smoked for over 3 years. Vaping isn't smoking. More incentives there are for smokers to switch the quicker smoking ends for good.

If you're vaping unregulated Chinese liquids, then there could be any crap in the vapour.
Depends on the liquid.
Regulated, older style e-liquids (PG based), with some nicotine and natural flavours are harmless to anyone in the vicinity. The nicotine is absorbed through the mucous membranes upon inhaling. It is not exhaled.
PG is used in asthma inhalers. It's a non issue, unless someone has an unusual reaction to the flavouring.
Newer style regulated VG based liquids for Subohm vaping are just as harmless. They are slightly more problematic though, because you feel like you are communicating through a cloud.

I'm not yet convinced that in 20 years time once long term studies are undertaken that e-cigs are actually safe, so no here.
