E-cigs indoors

New, so hello everyone.
Ive smoked fags for years so my teenage son has always seen me go outside for a fag as would never have smoked indoors.
For the past month ive been on the e-cigs which are great and I feel so much better and dont stink like an ashtray anymore.
As they are not real and only let off harmless vapour am I being unreasonable for now sitting on the sofa at night puffing away on my e-cig with him sitting next to me. Please be gentle.

Penguin, I agree.
I was in a stadium a few years ago long after ther tobacco ban and ecigs/vapers were on sale.
Not sure if they still would be as seem to be banned everywhere, think it's turned into shaming now.

I vape in the house once the kids are gone to bed. it's wonderful. Like 30 years ago when we were kids and our parents thought nothing of it. It doesn't harm them, doesn't harm me, the smell is no more offensive than a yankee candle that may not be quite to your taste.

I do think i some ways we have become very puritanical with things that are just pure enjoyable. Healthy eating, healthy lifestyle, exercise, having to give a good example to children. It's so regimented.

We seem to need to find a detraction from something that seems like a solution

I just don't think it's necessary to do it indoors. You previously had to wait to go outside for a cigarette, so doing it wherever and whenever you want seems counter-productive to quitting smoking to me.

But I have quit smoking. Three years ago.

Thanks all. I do agree this is a new thing so no one really knows if there are any side affects to what is being inhaled. Some interesting comments.

I vape in places you're not supposed to, including airplanes and Wetherspoons. I can do it very discreetly. There are ways to hide or minimise the vapour, including holding your breath before exhaling and exhaling down your shirt collar. I've done this on airplanes many times and nobody has ever noticed.

mutton you're the kind of person who would be my friend in real life.

Having a vape is not like having a cig. Vaping is done more regularly to be effective so don't worry about Vaping more. Its not meant to be done in short blocks of time. What I'm saying is that going out ten times a day to vape is not really an effective technique.

Vaping indoors is part of normalising behaviour after smoking outside. It helps the smoker stay off cigarettes as they feel less stigmatised, more relaxed and therefore able to cope with their quit strategy.

Many smokers seem to vape more than they smoked, but that is because the need for nicotine is self regulating, they may huff more regularly but they take in the same amount of nicotine, over time. Once this is normalised they can then concentrate on reducing the nicotine levels by reducing the nicotine content - which can temporarily increase the number of times they huff.

This means that even those who would never have quit cigarettes may continue to vape, but will be healthier for it and have a more inclusive family life.

And no, I cannot link to any research that shows that. It comes from a recent questionnaire we ran, asking our clients who vape what they thought the benefits of vaping are.
