Our lovely dil is 7 months pregnant. We are giving them a big cash present to help but want to get her a few nice gifts. Can't do smellies. Ideas anyone?

I've bought my SIL a Sassy Bloom subscription - that might be a good option for you?

HicDraconis · 22/12/2015 07:21

A big V pillow for later in pregnancy when it's too uncomfortable to sleep unless you're sitting up. They're great for feeding with too.

Box set of something light that she can watch at 1-2-3-4-5am when feeding (DH got me the entire Charmed set!).

you sound lovely and NU in the slightest :)

My lovely MIL bought me a larger-size-than-I-usually-wear cotton dressing gown for Christmas when I was pregnant with DD1. It was the only thing that covered my bump properly. I still use it now but I appear to have grown into it or perhaps it shrunk in the wash...

A kindle. I'm an avid reader and it was a life/sanity saver.

Youarentkiddingme · 22/12/2015 07:47

Nice comfy 'lounge wear' for those days when you just cannot get dressed!

Gloves and hand warmers sound great.

What about a nice photo frame for their family pictures when they start arriving?

I've often heard on here about 'voucher books' so you make her some vouchers of offers of things you'll do. Things like a pile of ironing, babysitting, cooking a nice meal. Probably things you'd do anyway but the sentiment that you are there if she needs you will be appreciated!

What about a one touch kettle? Saves all that filling, boiling and moving again to make a cuppa!

I hope you realise what a disservice you are doing to us MILs, OP - how are we expected to get through a Xmas rush of 'my MIL is an unreasonable cow' if you won't even try to keep up? Xmas Wink

monkeymamma · 22/12/2015 08:19

YAB a lovely MIL!

Lightweight scarves are so useful and never make you feel fat - Oliver Bonas do the best ones IMO.

Makeup bag and/or overnight bag are nice and would be handy for hospital stay.

Something to read as she won't get chance after the baby arrives! (Or maybe that's just me!)

Ditto cinema tickets. I went with dh to see the inbetweeners movie just before ds1 arrived. That was four years ago and i haven't been since!!! I bloomin love going to the cinema too.

A lovely blanket for the wakeful nights when DIL is on the sofa due to pregnancy insomnia or poorly baby. Also a Thermos mug.

These were the best pregnancy presents I had!

oh and YANBU Xmas Grin

LikeASoulWithoutAMind · 22/12/2015 11:13

What would she normally like for Christmas? I'm going to stick my neck out and suggest she'd still like most of those things (booze, extreme sports and prohibited food related items excepted Wink )

It made me feel a bit weird when people bought me baby related stuff for birthday/Christmas when I was pregnant. Get something for her would be my advice.

You sound like a lovely MIL btw. Flowers Can I swap you for mine?

dustarr73 · 22/12/2015 11:32

Get her a voucher to get her hair done.Your hair goes mad when pregnant.
Also i lived in pjs so get her a nice selection and some nice anti slip socks.Safer than slippers.

And you sound fab btw.

wubfud · 22/12/2015 12:04

If only you were my MIL. She told us she'd gift us money for baby things and then seems to have forgotten that there is going to be a baby very soon. Hasn't mentioned her since the 20 week scan! You sound lovely and your DIL is very lucky.

Unreasonablebetty · 22/12/2015 12:11

I don't know if this has been said, but you know what most new mothers would really appreciate?
A few hours of extra sleep. The spa idea is lovely! And so are toiletries,
But she might appreciate if you made her a little booklet of tokens, which she can redeem for half a days babysitting so she can catch up on sleep, and maybe a few hours help with housework.
You sound like a lovely MiL by the way.
I might go and read the next two pages of the thread now..

Hihohoho1 · 22/12/2015 12:35
