This is all light hearted, because of course I wouldn't repeat this to my friend, but I can't help but bloody feel for her girls! Grin

No word of a lie, the girls are going to be called Chummy and Bonnie! AIBU to say these names are a bit.. Something?

Poor Chummy, poor poor chummy...

GiddyOnZackHunt · 18/12/2015 23:08

Is she going to be a Yummy Chummy Mummy?

Obloquy · 18/12/2015 23:11

Maybe the scans were wrong and they're having boys?

Or what are the middle names? The children may have something to use as they grow up?

Paddletonio · 18/12/2015 23:17

Properly chortling at chummy

WhereYouLeftIt · 18/12/2015 23:19

Let's hope she gives them middle names then. That poor girl is going to need an alternate name and therapy.

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 18/12/2015 23:20

Does she not have a partner in the picture to tell her that is a stupid fucking word not even a name to be giving a child?!

VaticanAssassin · 18/12/2015 23:22

A friend of mine has twin girls, called Tabby and Tilly. They're nice enough names in their full form- Tabitha and Matilda- but as they are, just sound like a pair of cats.
YANBU op

DangerousBeanz · 18/12/2015 23:27

Can't you report her to social services ? I'm sure a name like Chummy constitutes emotional abuse.

SuperFlyHigh · 18/12/2015 23:34

vatican are Tabby and Tilly posh gels then?! Grin

Chummy hell no I had a the daughter of one of my mum's friends who changed her name from Kelly to another name (her middle one) as she thought Kelly I think was too common and her reason was "there are a lot of girls called Kelly in my class".

ReginaBlitz · 18/12/2015 23:35

I had a hamster called chummy and a cat called Bonnie. Sorry but you should be honest chummy is awful.

DoomGloomAndKaboom · 18/12/2015 23:39

In my family 'bonny' is a euphemism for 'fat kid'

Poor poor chummy. Ironically, she will not feel like anyone's chum when all the other kids are laughing at her for her fucking terrible name.

Does the dad-to-be share the love of these names? I mean, Bonnie is fine but Chummy might win this years Worst Baby Name On Mumsnet trophy. (it's in the shape of a 12" bronze tube of Bostik to denote 'bitch are you on glue')

Mrsfrumble · 19/12/2015 00:01

I'm sure a few years ago someone on here had an acquaintance who named her son Biggles. I really hope Chummy and Biggles meet and fall in love when they grow up.

coffeeisnectar · 19/12/2015 00:21

I have a friend called Bonnie, short for Bonita. Which is lovely.

Chummy? Can you imagine the trading at school? Chubby chummy. The chumster. Barking noises.
You need to have a word. Seriously.

MitzyLeFrouf · 19/12/2015 00:27

Bonita makes me think of sexy bananas. I'm sure the Bonita ads used to feature a banana dressed as Carmen Miranda wiggling provactively, well.....as much as a banana can wriggle.

munkisocks · 19/12/2015 00:29

My cat's called Chummy. Short for his full name Chumley. As in the guy from pawn stars.

Not for a child though. I'd have to say it's growing on me, but only like a rash.

finetonive · 19/12/2015 00:36

What if Bonnie turns out to be ugly? Shock

Domino777 · 19/12/2015 00:39

Bonnie yes. Chummie no. Clemmie yes.

finetonive · 19/12/2015 00:40

What if Chummy ends up being the 'bonnie' child and Bonnie has a face only her mother could love.
Can they swap names?

CremeBrulee · 19/12/2015 00:43

I predict that Chummy will grow up bitter an devious of her sister who took the 'normal name'. Years of therapy lie ahead for poor Chummy.

CremeBrulee · 19/12/2015 00:44

Argh bitter and envious not biter and devious - although you never know! Grin

GreatFuckability · 19/12/2015 00:48

No. Freaking. Way.

DPotter · 19/12/2015 00:51

I'm sure I've heard 'chummy' used in police programmes like 'The Sweeney' by the cops to describe a villein and I don't mean in an affectionate way.....

GiddyOnZackHunt · 19/12/2015 00:58

You"re coming dahn the nick with me chummy...

DPotter · 19/12/2015 01:10

That's the one! You could give her DVD of The Sweeney for Christmas and see if that does the trick?

GiddyOnZackHunt · 19/12/2015 01:12

She could call dt2 scrote :)
