No mention of nuts on either wrappers, but there is a nut warning on the other chocolates (Hazel whirl)

Given that the title description of the chocolate already names the nut it contains YABU.

Bags of peanuts which say "contains nuts" are probably aimed at you.

I think it's potentially misleading to have nut warnings on only half of the affected products. It could possibly lull someone very lazy and/or naive into a false sense of security. Either label them all, or none.

Yes, almond bite is obviously nutty, Brazilian darkness is a bit more ambiguous. I'm thinking of young children who might not know automatically, but will look for the warnings on the wrapper, or people who have just been diagnosed with a nut allergy.

YABU - where the hell has common sense buggered off to? Do we really need such obvious things pointed out to us, have we really become that dim as a race? Anyone with a severe nut allergy would avoid a box of Roses anyway, as they are all produced in a nut environment. Or you'd hope, anyway.

Yabu. Frankly if someone with a severe nut allergy will eat something called an almond bite because it doesn't state it contains nuts then we are fighting natural selection in keeping them alive.

Seems pretty clear to me, and tbh I wouldn't expect anyone with a nut allergy to risk picking anything from a selection box they know will have nuts in somewhere.

Tbh if avoided all food that had a risk of contamination I would be stuck with a very bland diet! the sweets are wrapped, and encased in chocolate so the risk of cross contamination is unlikely, I have been eating chocolates like this forever. And avoiding things that are obvious, like walnut whips, peanut butter and crunchy nut cornflakes and have remained alive. The thing is why not be consistent with the warnings or just not bother to put them on at all?

But if they're Cadburys they will all be revolting and sickly. Nobody, with or without a nut allergy, would be eating them, surely?

However, as someone with a severe nut allergy, I think I would be aware that a sweet called Almond Caramel would be unsafe. Brazillian might be more obscure to some people, although they are clearly not chocolate-covered skimpy knickers are they?

Since Cadbury's is now crap I wouldn't bother personally. There's a clue in the names - almond bite - yep nuts, brazilian darkness, since we're not talking about waxing style, it's a pretty good bet it contains brazil nut don't you think?

Why not just take the warnings off all of them then?

We usually loose the key after 5 mins, so it is pot luck, so the labels do need to be completely explanatory.

YANBU Labelling should be consistent, otherwise where do you draw the line as to what is 'obvious'?

You can get nut flavourings that are nut free. Someone may think 'obviously Brazilian Darkness contains nut free brazil nut flavouring as it doesn't have a nut warning'

I wouldn't be surprised if nut flavouring is cheaper than actual nuts so roses would be a prime target for their inclusion.

They should only need to put it on the tin once, because they are all made in the same factory.

I work in the food industry and we put it on everything because we don't know what's happened to ingredients before they get us. They may have been contaminated further down the chain even if nuts aren't listed

They have also done a shit job of paying any tax since the US buyout (but a great job of ruining UK workers lives and communities) and are therefore on my boycott list.

Offs. I DO take personal responsibility! I read the ingredients on everything I eat, if a nut is listed as an ingredient then I don't eat it. If it isn't then i do. This includes on foods I've already eaten before, as manufacturers like to chop and change the recipes often. I grew up in the 1970's and 80's, when nut allergies were not so common, so after eating a but chocolate and having a mild reaction yes, I didn't die, but the allergy gets progressively worse every time your exposed to nuts so from then on just didn't eat chocolates with nuts in, and that has worked for me ever since.

What about restaurants? Should they indicate which dishes contain nuts, or let us guess by the name, as it ain't always obvious, or should we just never eat out?
